Chapter 1 (The life I never asked for...)
Chapter 1
The life I never asked for..
Are you happy with what you are today?
Haven’t you ever thought that the life you are living now isn’t the one you always dreamed of? It’s something that you never even imagined living. I guess everyone has experienced this at least once in their life but never thought of living that life again which you imagined.
“I repeat the question, are you happy?” Dr. Smith asked.
For a second, I deviated from this conversation.
“Does that really matter now whether I am happy or not?”, I replied with a timid but painful smile.
“Look Jui, you know about your reports, the medicines are…”
“..Just not working out. Right? I know and, to be honest, I am done with my life, because even you know there is nothing left to do with it”, I explained.
But she doesn’t seem to be convinced yet. Dr. Emma Smith is not just my neurologist, but also my childhood friend. Her father and my father were childhood friends and so, as a 1+1 offer, we both have to be friends. It’s not like I don’t like being with her because, among all the people I know, she is the most “down-to-earth” kind of person, which attracts me the most towards her. But yeah, the fact that she’s trying her best to save my life pisses me off. I just don’t understand why she became a neurologist out of nowhere.
“Jui, you don’t have much time, so try to be happy.”
“And how do you think I can do that?”
“Now that’s what you have to think. Be with someone who makes you happy, who makes you feel alive, who cares for you, who can make your everyday memorable and not with someone who verbally abuses you..”
Ring Ring
Call from Asshole (it says)
Speak of the devil and the devil is here.
(On call)
Hello?
No I’m busy.
I don’t care.
You stay away from my business, you asshole.
(Call cuts)
“Well, I’ll take a leave then. Thanks for your guidance. See you soon”. I left in a hurry.
“Remember, you need to put in some effort to be happy”, Emma exults.
I know, but what if it’s a life you never wanted to live. It’s something that depresses you. And it’s something which is stopping you from being happy. It’s the life I never asked for.
