There was a piercing ringing in his ears. It was screeching and magnified; he could hardly hear himself think. The ringing sound had been induced by the visions he had constructed in his head. He had pictured Lawrence’s head tumbling on the ground. He had envisioned Lawrence’s throat sliced open. In all his visions, all his imaginations; Lawrence was lying on the ground, dead. Then the ringing stopped and Luke noticed that the screams had not halted. In fact, they had grown louder, desperate. Was Luke’s assailant torturing Lawrence? Had he not killed him yet?
