Chapter 1 Mia's POV "Get out of my way, you useless Omega!" Immediately i lowered my head as the tray in my hands trembled. "I'm sorry." "Sorry?" The housekeeper standing before me scoffed. "Do you know how many times i have told you to polish the silverware before all the guests arrive?" "I did polish them, ma'am," i replied. "Then why am i still seeing fingerprints?" I swallowed hard as i looked down at the silver tray, there was barely a mark on it. But arguing would only make things worse. "I will clean it again," I mumbled. "You'd better," she spat, snatching the tray from my hands. "And don't embarrass us today. Alpha Joe's engagement ceremony is tonight and important people are coming from every corner of the pack." "Yes, ma'am," I replied, lowering my eyes. Then she walked away without another word, but i waited until she disappeared around the corner before releasing the breath i had been holding. I glanced at my hands to see they were already red from hours of cleaning. Today was supposed to be a happy day for the entire Moon pack, except for me. Alpha Joe was getting engaged, and I had known about it for months. Everyone knew. He is the richest and most powerful wolf in the Moon pack and was finally going to marry the woman he had loved since childhood, Silvia the Beta's daughter. I had seen them together countless times, had watched the way Joe looked at Silvia. The way his smile softened whenever Silvia entered a room, and the way everyone already calls her the future Luna. But i had never allowed myself to dream of anything different. Because I knew my place as an Omega, a servant and had learned long ago that girls like me weren't supposed to dream about Alphas. Especially not Alpha Joe. I sighed and continued cleaning. But I had barely taken another step when a strange pain suddenly shot through my chest. I froze. "What...?" For years, I had waited for my wolf to awaken. I had watched other young wolves shift and discover their companions, waited through every birthday, every full moon and every night wondering if something was wrong with me. That people had eventually stopped asking, while some had called me defective and others simply accepting that i would remain an ordinary Omega. But now... just then a soft growl sounded inside me. "We need to leave." "Leave?" I frowned. "Yes" Pearl replied. "To where?" I asked, confused. "The banquet hall" Pearl replied, as i looked toward the door. "The banquet hall?" "Yes, our mate is there." "Our... what?" I said, my eyes widening. "Our mate," Pearl repeated. And my heart skipped. "Pearl, what are you talking about?" "Alpha Joe" she replied. I stopped breathing instantly, as i shook my head. "Yes," pearl whispered. "No, pearl," I declined. "He is our fated mate." But I shook my head quickly. "That can't be true." "Yes it is," she muttered. "But he is getting engaged tonight!" "Then we must stop the engagement," Pearl muttered. Then I stared at the closed door, my hands trembling. "I can't do that." "You must," Pearl insisted. "I can't walk into the banquet hall and announce that Alpha Joe is my mate!" I snapped. "Why?" "Because I'm an Omega," I said, my voice almost rising. "It doesn't matter. But the moment she noticed me standing at the entrance, her smile faded, while my whole body trembled in fear and suddenly i wanted to run back. "Go now" I heard Pearl's steady voice. Pearl sounded almost triumphant inside me. "I told you." "She is our Luna," Joe's wolf growled again. And the hall erupted as some gasped, some whispering among themselves.
