Graduation

1183 Words
All of my efforts have paid off now that graduation is upon us — the sleepless nights showed visibly under my eyes as the skin starts to hang writing my paper. Some nights I cried wondering if I would make it and the hormones from the pregnancy made it worse. My pregnancy has been coming along nicely. I haven't had any issues with the baby. With my mind trying to multitask, I didn't do a good job at taking care of myself. In the midst of rushing to get to the next lab, I ended up fainting from dehydration. Evan was heartbroken when he found out. "One more incident and the baby might not make it." The warning kept echoing in the back of my mind. Evan and I agreed on having the wedding after my graduation to avoid adding more stress. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm in love with my fiancé. He's been pampering me reminding me of how Danny used to treat me. My mind started to ponder of the memories when we were "dating." It was never official anyway. I kept telling myself trying to focus on the incredible man in front of me. It seemed like a while ago since I took his class. Snapping back into reality, I quickly finished applying makeup, went on to do my hair, then picked out an outfit. I usually wouldn't oppose the idea of wearing a casual outfit underneath my graduation gown. It was pointless fighting with Evan. Once his mind is focused on something there's nothing anyone can do to snap him out of it. I would have loved to be home and asleep after the event. However, my parents are coming to visit me in California for the first time. My mind and body were exhausted. I forced myself to wear kitten heels with my cute ensemble. My body couldn't bear it any longer so I decided to wear ballet flats after trying to walk to the car. "You look beautiful," Evan said with a husky voice. His eyes are hypnotizing me from a glance. There was passion in his eyes that made me fall more in love with him. As we were on our way to the school, I decided to have a quick snack in case the ceremony went on for too long. When we arrived, it was a good feeling to see my classmates wearing their graduation gown. I tried to hold my tears back. My body is allowing it to drip trailing down my face and onto my neck. Lila concerned after discovering me in tears. "Is something wrong?" I let out a laugh. "It's these damn hormones. This moment is what I've been waiting for. It's so surreal standing here right now." She rolled her eyes jokingly hugging me before finding her seat. To my surprise, I saw him cozying up to his on-again-off-again fiancé. Danny and Erica seem happy now. I'm not sure why the change of heart. Was I not worth it? Different scenarios started running through my head each with a bad ending. Of course, that didn't cause me to cry. I tried to keep my focus on the valedictorian giving out her speech. To be honest, I didn't give a rats ass about it. My mind starts to drift. Soon my eyelids feel heavy closing my eyes for a minute. "Sam! ..... Sam! Wake up! It's me, Danny." I opened my eyes to see everyone had left except for me. I followed him out of curiosity confused by what I'm seeing. The wind was howling giving me goose bumps. I had a bad feeling about this. Whatever it is. Danny stopped, asking me to help him as his knees dropped to the ground with a chain around his neck. Behind him was an abyss that looked like we were standing at the edge of a cliff. As he screamed for help, his body was pulled back by the chain around his neck. Feeling a nudge, I woke up gasping for air. I looked around to see no one's names has been called yet. I let out a sigh of relief. "Are you sure you're ok?" Lila asked me with a brow raised. I nodded my head, and we continued to listen for our names. I could feel someone's piercing eyes stare at me like a target. I was starting to feel uneasy meanwhile, I pretended everything was alright. Not trying to be too obvious I glanced over at Danny. I must have stared because he caught my gaze giving me a confused look. It was strange that he was acting as if none of the experiences he shared with me mattered. Because Danny kept looking over Erica mouthed something to me. I had no idea what she said. "Samantha Walker." The Dean spoke into the microphone. Everyone applauding as I went up to get my diploma. I made eye contact with Evan with pleasing eyes. I felt proud of my accomplishment, and nothing was going to stop me. Lila and I were as happy as can be. It wasn't long before all the graduates threw their cap into the air. I joined in on the fun. Evan walks over to me hints the cap will hit me. I moved over just in time as it landed on the ground beside me. He grabbed it placing his hand behind my back pulling me toward him. The moment was ruined by Erica and Danny interlacing their fingers together. She congratulated me while Danny stayed silent continuously staring at me. It was as if my name was at the tip of his tongue and he couldn't remember. Evan and Erica had a small chit chat before we said our goodbyes getting ready to meet my parents at a local restaurant. When we finally arrived, they had been waiting for us. Evan holds the door for me waiting for me to enter. I get to our table and my parents immediately jumping with joy that their little girl has graduated. It was nice seeing them again. It was obvious I was pregnant. Not really knowing if they would be supportive of me having a baby. My dad greeted Evan. From his expression, I could tell he didn't approve of him. We sat down and talked about a lot of things that didn't really matter to me. My parents were upset at themselves for not being able to make it to the graduation ceremony, but they want to be there to support the wedding. I tried to convince my dad that Evan is a great guy. Always bringing up how he has been helpful to me. We lied about how we met of course. He told them he met me at one of his business meetings. "Are you ready to order?" I smiled nodding my head. As the waitress was writing, I saw a blonde woman wearing large dark sunglasses with a beige trench coat in the corner of my eye looking straight at me from across the room. I began to feel uneasy.
