I drank some water trying to calm down. Moments later, our waitress places our food in front of us. Everyone excitedly digs in. As I continue to dig in, my parents begin to share their stories about where they've been traveling. I'm happy for them yet felt hurt deep down that they waited until I moved to start traveling. Evan holds onto my hand. His calm smile is warming my cheeks making them glow red. In the middle of their story, our waitress walks over with a milkshake giving it to me. "This is from an anonymous person." I thank her for accepting the drink. Evan takes the drink from my hand asking the waitress to disclose the anonymous person. When she didn't answer, he grabbed her by her shirt demanding her to tell him. "I don't know!" She said trembling with fear. "It was a woman wearing a trench coat over there!" She pointed in the direction I saw a woman sitting earlier. The seat is now empty. Both my parents stared at Evan in shock gasping the moment he grabbed our waitress. "Put her down! She was simply doing her job. What's gotten into you?" Dad shouted at him. Evan ignored the comment.
He releases her shirt from his grasp. She falls to the ground her hands shaking sitting there for a moment before running to the back. He looks at me coldly, "Don't drink it." I take a few deep breaths sipping some water. My parents and I agree to end the evening. Before we could get another waitress to give us some boxes, there were gunshots heard from the back or the kitchen of the restaurant. The customers and employees scream as they tried to hide or escape the restaurant. My parents and I hide under a table trying to stay as low as we can to the ground.
The woman exits out the kitchen into the area with all the customers. Evan grabs his gun concealing it behind his back. Out of fear I text Danny for help asking him to call 911 with our location. The woman confronts Evan with a gun in her hand aiming it at him as she walks closer. "It's been a while darling." She said placing her gun on his chest kissing him passionately. I felt my heart sink to my stomach seeing her tongue swirling with his and how he didn't push her away. He almost seems relaxed by her presence.
In a calm voice he asks her, "What are you doing here Carla?" She laughs switching positions of the gun aiming it at me. He quickly points the gun toward her. "Shoot me, and I'll kill her and your baby with one shot. You know I never miss Evan." He lowers his gun watching her make her way toward me grabbing me from under the table. "You're coming with me." Too scared to do or say anything she yanks my arm pulling me in her direction. With her back toward Evan, "We'll meet again soon darling." She slightly turns shooting him in the arm. He winces with pain putting pressure on his arm. Carla opens the car door of a Jeep shoving me inside slamming the door as she continues to walk toward the driver seat.
She continues to drive while making all sorts of calls speaking with codes that didn't make sense to me. After the calls, she looks at me using the rearview mirror. I had to ask. I forced myself to ask her where we're going. She could hear the tremble in my voice. She tells me I'm going to an auction. "An auction? Why do you want me to go? I don't have any money." I told her truthfully. She chuckles, "You're a naive girl. You're going to be in the auction. I'm surprised he never told you about his work." Feeling nervous and scared I tried to force my body to move, but it didn't. I was frozen with fear wanting to open the door and roll out of the moving car yet I couldn't bring myself to lose my babies. Thinking about my options whatever happens to me I wouldn't want either of them to experience what I'm experiencing. Lost in my thoughts, I smelled something around me. My body began to feel tired, my eyelids heavy, and my vision blurred.
It seemed the day passed by. When I awoke, I found myself in a white padded room that you'd find in mental institutes. Feeling panic running through my body I started to look around to see if I could use anything. I made my way to the large window in front of me placing my hand on the glass. I saw Evan talking to Carla without her sunglasses on. All of a sudden the speakers in the room turned on allowing me to hear their conversation from where I am. "You know I had to do it. I wasn't given much choice."
Evan: Bullshit! *slamming his hand on the table* I don't care how much he's paying you. You're going to let her go!
Carla: Why do you care so much? *walking toward him* She's just another girl.
Evan: She's more than that. She's the mother of my children.
Carla: *tsk tsk tsk* that’s unfortunate. You're not the only one running this organization.
Evan grabs her face with his hands squeezing it to the point where she couldn't talk. He continued to tell her, "You may have escaped my little ring but don't think for a god damn second I don't have the power to put you back in there. Now where the f**k is she?!" He slaps her around. A slap loud enough for me to flinch. I started to pound my fists on the window with all my might. He couldn't hear me nor see me. I felt a stranger's hand lay on my shoulder.
