Chapter 1
Camille's POV "Stop!!! NOOO!!!" I scream as I wake from that horrid dream for the third night in a row, Drenched in a cold sweat. Ears ringing, and my heart racing. It felt like I was there. The nightmare haunts me again-women and children fleeing with screams echoing in the background. Gunfire with smell of flesh burning in the air. The women continue to flee in order to survive as their husbands fight, only to be shot burned alive. Desperation and Helplessness still clung to me as I tried to regulate my racing heart. As the early morning light crept in, the images of that nightmare still vividly in my mind, a dark echo that threatened to upend my day. I shudder thinking about that terrible nightmare. I reflect on it for a moment, puzzled as to why this dream keeps coming back recently. Why now? It's not a nice dream about chocolate or anything like that (which is long overdue in my personal opinion ) these dreams start a couple months ago. Seemingly with no trigger. I shake my head, trying to clear it of the dreams horrors. I look at the clock. Its 7am. Dammit. I'm late getting up. This can not be good for the first day of my senior year. Ugh... I have exactly 30 mins to get dressed, and make the 7 min drive to school, get to my locker and my first class before the bell rings at 7:30am. Stupid nightmares, I blame my late start on you! So I flip back the covers and do my best to get ready fast so I can be on time to my first class. Thoughts racing from the experience from my nightmare. ................................................................ Riiinnngggg!!! The school bell rang, as I sat with a sigh of relief for making it on time. I just barely made it to my seat as the bell sounded. Ugh!! That was too close for me, I am so out of breathe after sprinting to class from my locker. "Someone's cutting it close, where were you? I waited for you and called your phone but I got no answer. So I hurried on so I could get us seats-" my best friend Sky started. "I overslept, dang girl give a break" I said teasingly. "Sorry, girl just thought you were throwing me to the sharks on the first day back" she said grinning. "What are you so smiley about?" I asked, thinking no one should be this happy at 7:30 in the morning on our first day of school. I'll be happy when it's graduation day. "Because we're Seniors this year, we supposedly run the school this year, this should be fun!" She said beaming. "Yea. That's what they say, I'll guess we'll find out if that's true or not event-" I started before I was cut off by the teacher as he breezed in the room closing the door. "Good Morning Class, or better yet, Good Morning Seniors! My name is Mr. Yamahada, pronounced Ya-Ma-Hah-Duh, but you may call me Mr. Yama or simply Yama, welcome to your home room. You will meet here everyday at the beginning of the school day for class for 1 hour." He said. "In that one hour you may use that time as a study hall and work on projects or homework assignments you didn't get finished. Or for some of you i imagine rush to complete homework you never started. I'm sure there will be times you all work in group study's with one another. Count your blessings not everyone has a homeroom/or a study hall, just those who have taken most of your required classes and don't have enough classes left to fill your schedule." "Also you will see me again for another hour after your lunch in which you have another opportunity to get ahead on work, or catch up on work. But, I warn you to use your time given to you wisely because the 'I didn't have time' excuse will not work in this last year of your high school life. It definitely won't work in general for life regarding that matter. "Now that we've discussed that, I'll give you a little background on myself and then we'll go around and you can introduce yourselves to one another. Just give your name, tell us something interesting about yourself, and your plans after graduation" he said. " Now I've been a teacher for almost 2 years. I graduated from........". While Mr. Yama was talking I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Good thing I managed to remember to put my phone on silent. Sky Texted: 'He seems like he's as cool teacher, looks like things are looking up in our favor already this year.' Me: 'Yea. He seems cool, but don't be disappointed if the rest of our classes and teachers suck. We can't always win.' Sky: 'Stop being such a party pooper. ' Me: 'I'm not, I'm only being logical.' Sky: 'Well what's got you in such a foul mood? Is it that creep?' Me (apologetically): 'Sorry, Sky I don't mean to be a jerk, I haven't gotten any sleep lately especially the last 3 days.' Sky (face showing concern): 'What's wrong, have you been feeling ok?' Me: 'Yea. It's not that, I've been having this same horrible dream of people being slaughtered. It just sucks being me right about now.' Sky: 'Damn girl, that's sickening. Do you think it means anything?' Me (dread filling me as I got the feeling that there definitely was more to this): 'I hope not. It'll be scarier if it did mean something' Sky:' Yea. Agreed. it would be scarier if it actually meant something.' "Excuse Miss-would like to tell us about yourself or would you rather continue texting?" Mr. Yama asked expectantly. I noticed that he along with the rest of the class (except Sky) were looking at me.
