The bed was cold when I woke up. Pepper’s scent lingered in the room, and I could hear her downstairs rummaging through the kitchen. I rubbed sleep from my eyes and groaned as I sat up.
The sun crept through the window, and I thought about laying back down. It’s going to be another long day. Gran moved around in the room above me, and I grumbled as I flopped down onto the bed.
We need our own d*mn place to live. I’m ready for the pack not to need help anymore so we can focus on us. But I knew things would go faster if I helped, so I climbed out and got dressed.
Pepper was singing to herself as I rounded the corner into the kitchen, and she smiled sweetly when she saw me.
