ROMAN

700 Words
He kept staring at the house in the distance. Finally, he found them. He found his family. But will they welcome him? Will they be happy to see him once again? He gathered his courage and stepped out of his car. He has been debating whether he should disturb their lives. It has been so long since they last saw each other. He just hopes they will be happy to see him again. Today is Rojan’s graduation from university. He was hailed as summa c*m laude of his class. His mother was very proud of him. They were having a small celebratory dinner in their house with just the two of them when they heard a knock on the door. Expecting no one, they wondered who it might be. Leona got up to open the door. They were not expecting anyone today so she wondered who it might be. She is happy and peaceful. Their life might be simple, almost monotonous but they can’t ask for more. She held her hand towards the door knob and opened it. The sound of deafening silence hit Rojan. He heard the door open and then there was silence. “Roman!” He heard his mother exclaim. He thought of the name. Thinking where he had heard it before. And then it hit him. It’s his father’s name. He immediately got up from his seat and went to check. If it really is his father then he must see for himself. For so long he had waited to meet him. For so long he had wanted his family to be complete. He knows that his mother still loves his father. But the rejection of his family keeps her from having anything to do with him. And now he’s here. He’s here. For their family. For his mother. For him, his son. He found them staring at each other. The longing in their eyes overshadowed the pain they’ve been through. “May I come in, Leona?” His father asked. “Roman, please come in.” She motioned for him to come in and led him to the living room where I’ve been eavesdropping. His mother gave him a knowing look. “Please, have a seat Roman. I believe you know my son, our son, Rojan,” she nods my way and I get up to give the man a handshake. I take a look at my father. At fifty he’s still handsome and charismatic. Tall like me. With the same set of hazel eyes one can say we look like brothers. “What brings you here Roman?” Leona asked. “I have been looking for you and our son for so long.” We listened. “When my parents died, I did all to find you. But you are nowhere to be found. I went to different countries just to make myself forget. For twenty years I kept waiting for news that you and our son a finally found. Until recently I received news that my people have found you. I immediately came back to the country after that. I gathered up all my courage to face and here I am, pleading that you come back with me. Let’s make our family complete once again.” There were tears in his eyes. His face showing remorse for the years they were all apart. Leona can’t stop her tears from what she just heard. “I took Rojan away from you on purpose. I was afraid you’ll take him away from me. So lived in a small town, away from public eyes.” Roman took Leona’s hand in his. His eyes pleading. “Leona, please forgive me for all the years I’ve wasted. For not having the courage to fight for our family when needed the most. Please give me another chance to redeem myself.” That moment on their lives changed. His mother decided to give his father another chance. She can see in him how serious he is about a complete family. The chance to live the life they were deprived of by fate. Everything in his life transformed then on. But one thing is constant. His hatred for the Brighton family!
