Chapter 4

Marcel         “Ten hours!” An agitated female voice screamed right as I began to bite into my sandwich. I looked up to see a girl with bright purple hair,  a lip and nose ring and eyes that anyone can tell wasn't her real eye color because they were too grey to be natural. You would assume that she was either from the south or she was living in the south for quite some time because she had a complexion that was a shade darker than mine. Actually, the person is my sister Grace, the punk rock-looking wild child of my parents. “Grace, what are you going on about?” I whined. I loved my sister dearly but she can be headache at times. “You have been in Savannah for ten hours, slept for four and been in the hospital for six. We haven’t gotten to hang out or catch up” she complained. I understood why she was feeling this way because I took this internship to be closer to them. I’m even staying with her and her family until I find myself a place of my own. I got in late last night and I was exhausted, especially since it was a twelve hour flight and I had a hungover also. So, I went straight to sleep without even getting to see my niece and nephew. Then I got a call from the hospital telling me that they were short-staffed and needed me to come in, even though I don’t start before tomorrow. So, after only four hours of sleep, I had to go in and start doing my grunt work as an intern.  I've been here for six hours without meeting the resident who will be overseeing us. “I’m sorry if me being a doctor is an inconvenience to whatever you had plan today” I said heavy with sarcasm. “You know they say that sarcasm is a form of s****l frustration so is everything okay with you and the ladies?” She could show fake compassion like a champ. If I wasn’t her brother, I would have thought that was a genuine concern question but since it wasn't, I gave her the finger and she just laughed. Grace went back to eating her salad and looking into her folder's of students. We had agreed to eat lunch together while her husband Josh took the kids' school shopping. She had to look over some files so she figured she would get my opinion on some of them.       My sister worked for The Order. They are the ones who maintains the peace and upholds the law of the supernatural world as a whole. Her job here in Savannah was to oversee the Savannah leadership program and to also teach a magical history class for the supernatural college kids. The leadership program brought next-generation supernatural leaders, of college age, into Savannah to run the supernatural aspect of the city for four years to prepare them for their soon-to-be role. From what she told me, she brought four kids from the big three of the Sups. Pure-blooded Vampires, Alpha Werewolves, and Royal Fae. The four years was a representation of the year they were in college and if anyone failed a semester of college they would be removed from the program if they couldn’t make it up in the summer. “This girl right here” she said sliding me over the file as I put down my sandwich to looked at it. “Accalia Johnson?” I looked over and started reading the file. The file stated that she was a 20 years old daughter of one of the most powerful Alphas in America and is the next in line to take over the pack. That was a rare occurrence and  I was impressed because werewolves normally tend to be patriarchal but it's not unheard of so it's safe to say that power speaks louder than anything else in the world. There wasn't any pictures to go with the file so I can only assume that it was for security purposes. “This looks pretty impressive” I said as I picked up my sandwich for another bite. “Yes she is, but thats not even the half of it.” I put down the file and looked up at my sister. “She can do magic Marcel.” That got my attention because I've never heard of a werewolf capable of using magic. The surprise on my face encouraged my sister to continue. “She was born to an Alpha wolf and a powerful Mage and as you know, offsprings from these unions normally comes out either a wolf or a mage but some how she is both.” “Wait, your telling me she has access to both her full wolf abilities and magic?” My curiosity was completely peaked now. “YES! And she could be so powerful. You know that this is such a rare find.” She had so much excitement in her voice but then it fell “But she doesn’t want to learn magic though, she prefers to just be an Alpha. “Well does she really need magic? Sure it's a waste to have the gift and not use it but if she is an Alpha then she already have power.” “I know but the mage in me hates to see talent like that go to waist. I’m hoping maybe if you help me teach my magic history classes and tell them all about the magic that you have seen all over the world, then maybe she might be interested in learning. This will be awesome because you're one of the most powerful mages I know” my sister said in a pleading voice. If my sister only knew the full truth about me, the power I possess and all the magic that I truly know, she would be so shock. Normally, I would mind my business but I was completely curious about this girl, a werewolf that could use magic. I do want to see what her magical potential is. If it's high enough then it would be worth the while, even with my new busy schedule. Plus, she is an alpha in waiting so she could be a useful ally in the future, especially with that damn cult being here. Thinking of that, Lisbeth never reached out to me but I have only been in the city for 10 hours so she'll find me when she needs to. “Okay I'll do a guest visit and see if she shows any interest. I'll do a stop by on the days that I’m not loaded up with work” I said finishing up the last of my sandwich. Grace just grinned with excitement at the thought of a new student. “Thank you so much little brother! I knew there was a reason mom and dad didn’t drop you off at the orphanage.” She just had to through that last punch in there to irritate me. Before I could say a comeback, I got a text message telling me to meet my resident in one of the boardroom’s. I told my sister I had to go, I hugged her and kissed her on the cheek and left heading directly to meet my boss for the next year. *****       As I walk through the halls, I could see many of the women checking me out. I gave them all warm smiles back. I'm fully aware of my handsomeness which has gotten me into trouble before. Hopefully, I won’t get into too much trouble here. I know that once some time have passed, the “new shinny toy” appeal will fade and I will just be another good-looking doctor so I’m going to take full advantage till then. After I met with Sebastian, I was looking forward to my night with Hannah but by the time I got back, she was gone. But now that I’m here, I need to find myself another friend like her and the way these women are looking at me, hopefully, it won't be too long.      It didn’t take me too long to find the conference room and as I opened the door, I saw that nine others were already already in the room. These must be the other interns and I assume that I am the last to arrive. I stepped in and shook some of their hands as I introduced myself.  Out of no where a girl with dark black hair and round glasses popped in front of me. “You must be the famous Marcellus Tramain, I’m a huge fan of your moms” she said giggling. The room went wide-eyed after the girl said my full name. I was telling everyone my name was Marcel and leaving out my last name because Marcellus sounds old. My mother was very famous in the supernatural medical community. She invented magical surgery. I would rather not have the attention associated with her but it's too late for that. Everyone now knows my full name and that I am her son. “Please call me Marcel” I said giving her a warm smile as I gave her a once look over. She was kinda tall, almost at eye level with me. She had black hair which was in a bun and her dark brown skin was smooth and very flawless while her full lips were curved upwards in a smile showing perfect white teeth. “Name is Velda she said before getting a little closer to my ear and whispering “ my girlfriend wouldn’t like you looking at me that way unless she could have a piece as well.” This left me quite speechless with a devilish smirk. “Hello there, I’m Brad” said a guy. He immediately interrupted Veldas and my stimulating conversation. He was short and a little stocky and sported well kept short-cut hair. He gave off this kind of prideful but an arrogant kind of vibe. Arrogance was not something that I was a fan of because at one time, my arrogance caused my life to be turned upside down. Even in my most prideful moments, I never looked down on anyone though. The way this guy is looking at Velda with disgust in his eye shows he didn’t share my belief. “We should hang out sometime, since we are kinda the elite here” he said lifting his hands for me to shake. “No thank you, I’m good” I said walking away while gesturing for Velda to follow me. The room snickered as we walked away from Brad. I could feel the heat of his hateful stare and I thought to myself, "this is going to be a completely fun year."   Before Brad could say anything, a tall pale man with bright red hair walks in informing us all to take a seat.  “Well, this is going to be quick because we are hitting the ground running” he said as he placed his hand in the pockets of his white coat. “My name is Dr. O’Malley and I will be the resident in charge of you. You will only address me as Dr. O’Malley. As you know we are the supernatural Division of this hospital and we take all the cases that are mystical or supernatural in nature. The number one rule is that this branch of the hospital is completely secret from the normal human population. Everyone else, besides the chief and members of this branch, believe that we are just a special division that deal with special cases. This goes without saying that you don’t talk about what you do here with anyone that doesn’t work inside here or isn’t apart of the supernatural world.” He looked around at us to make sure we all see how serious he was. “Let me make this perfectly clear if anyone of you break this rule, I will personally make sure you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law and I’m not talking the human one.” He briefly paused let it that sink into everyone's brains. Even though most of the people here were humans, this has been a rule that I have lived by since the day I was born so it doesn’t really affects me. “So now that is clear lets move on and lets move out of here.” Dr. O’Malley gesturing us to follow him so we all got up and followed him out of the room. “As you all know we are funded by and work with the Order, but we are not a part of the Order. In other words, we work with them but not for them. If there's an incident, you let the Order handle it while we just treat our patients.” He showed us all around the hospital and introduced us to all the nurses that work in this part of the hospital. I already meet a few of them and I knew a lot wasn't human. Dr. O’Malley also explained how there are only three attending and eight residents in this division. He let us know that most likely not even half of us will make it throughout the intern year. He then took off his jacket allowing us to see the huge claw marks all up his arms. He explained how they were from a wolf shifter he tried to treat and the wolfsbane in her system caused her to hallucinate from the pain and attack him. He also told us how many people he knew had died because they weren’t prepared for this. I knew that not all the stories he was telling us happened during his training. Since my father was ranked officer in the order, I could tell the signs of someone having a military background. The way he moved to talk to us and just by his very demeanor alone. He also had this structural presence of order and control with the no nonsense attitude of a long-term veteran. Great, this will be like living with my father again.
