Chapter 7

1145 Words
Since he saved her life, she was grateful. She decided to thank him by making him lunch and cleaning the house. "I'm sure this old man doesn't eat proper food because he's too lazy to cook," she said to herself, assuming the man was an older person because of his strong powers. "That porridge was horrible, even though it was medicine. He could've at least have added a little flavor to it." She started with the kitchen, where there were lots of dishes to wash. She looked at the messy shelves and sighed. "I admit, sometimes I'm lazy, but I will never reach this level of laziness." She grabbed a broom and began sweeping. After that, she did the dishes and cleaned the shelves. When she was done, she went to clean the rooms. The first room was filled with ancient things: books, medicine, daggers, etc. She found one interesting book that took all her focus. It was related to how supernatural powers are gifted to a person and ancient beliefs and myths. The second room was the one she woke up in, which only needed a few touch-ups. The third and two other rooms were locked, which made her a little disappointed, as she was looking forward to finding out more about the man's past. She didn't see any pictures around the house that might give her an idea of who he was. When she was done, she went to the garden to pick up some vegetables to cook. The garden was really attractive and seemed to be in good condition. "I guess this is the only thing he knows how to take care of." For 23 years of her life, she had only cooked four times. Her parents never let her touch any pot, especially her father. The only times she cooked were when she went to visit her grandmother. But she was young at that time. The last time she cooked was when she was 11 years old. Right now, she was going to find out how good or bad her memory was. Lighting the stove, she first boiled water in a pot. She wanted to make vegetable soup noodles, just like her grandmother taught her. She spent hours making it, which made her exhausted. By the time she was finishing up, the man had returned. "Oh, good timing. I'm almost done with lunch," she said with a smile, turning around to look at him. Her smile immediately disappeared. "Did he get into trouble?" she thought. His clothes had a few holes in them, and his hands had bruises and were slightly bleeding. Just as she thought she should help him, a cold, distant voice stopped her. "I thought I made myself clear. Why are you still here?" he sounded angry this time. "I first wanted to thank you by making lunch and helping you clean the house," she said, trembling in fear. "Okay, thank you. You may leave now. I'm going to take a shower," he said in an annoyed tone and left to his room. Jen imitated him, " Blah! blah! blah! blah! I'm going to take a shower." She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Why do you tell me that if you don't want me here?" She was hungry already, since morning, she hadn't eaten anything. She grabbed a bowl and poured herself some vegetable soup noodles and sat down to eat. While eating, she was busy inside her head, coming up with a better story to convince the man to let her stay there for a while. She didn't want to go back to the palace now, as her life was in danger. She wanted to stay there and practice until she learned to control her powers. 15 minutes later, she was done and waited for the man to come out. Another 15 minutes went by, and still, the man hadn't shown up yet. She decided to go to him. There were three doors next to each other that were closed. "Which one is his room?" she wondered. She went closer and listened for any movement happening inside; she did the same with the second one and the third one, but heard nothing from all of them. Hesitating to knock on the middle door, which she suspected he was, the first door opened, and the man came out shirtless. Jen almost dropped the bowl of soup. The man's physique was impressive. His muscles were well-defined, and his skin was smooth and unblemished. His chest was broad, and his abs were chiseled. He looked like a warrior, strong and powerful. " There's no way he can be that old with that body, right? " She thought to herself. "You want me to throw you out myself?" his coldness brought back Jen to reality. "Uhm, I'm sorry. I was about to leave. I came to say goodbye and to give you this as a thank you," she shoved the bowl to him. The soup looked delicious, and it made his stomach growl. He snatched the bowl from her and said coldly before shutting the door. "Thank you. Have a safe journey." Jen felt like punching his face that moment. If it wasn't for the fact that he had saved her and was such a strong person, she wouldn't have held back from telling him off already. "What a rude man," she silently complained and returned to the dining room. "He's one kind of stubborn person." Looks like convincing him to let her stay wasn't going to be easy after all. Not less than five minutes later, the man came out with an empty bowl. Panicking, thinking that he was going to shout at her for not leaving, she immediately stood up in case he wanted to throw her out on his own. "Is there more?" he asked, handing her the bowl. For a moment, she was stunned, but quickly shook it off. She quickly took the bowl, afraid he might change his mind, and within a second, she gave it back full of vegetable soup noodles. Instead of the man going back to his room, he sat down opposite her. He immediately chowed down the noodles like it was the first time he had eaten in 7 years and finished with gulping down the soup. The whole time, Jen was watching him speechless. She had never expected the scene that was happening in front of her to happen. "He was really hungry after all," she thought. When he was finished, he put down the bowl and wiped his mouth with his hand. "So, what do you want?" His voice was lighter now. At first, she was a little scared to even say a word, but she had to do it. "Since you saved my life, in return, I will serve you as my master for the rest of my life."
