Chapter 3

1073 Words
While dancing, Prince George asked questions that Jen replied to blankly. She was absent-minded, thinking about what had happened the night before in the forest. "Who is that mysterious man?" she thought. "Are you alright, my princess?" Prince George asked in an affectionate tone. He touched her chin and lifted up her head. As soon as their eyes met, Jen got a feeling she couldn't describe. Looking deep into his eyes made her see something different about him. There was something different about his aura, similar to the one she felt the night before from the mysterious man, but his was not that strong as the mysterious man's. "Could he be the mysterious man?" she thought deeply, tracing his eyes. A cold chill made her shiver. It wasn't cold, so why was she feeling cold? Prince George noticed it and touched her forehead, speaking in a distracting tone. He softly rubbed her forehead with two fingers, inserting heat into her body. "Let's have something to drink," he said. "Okay," Jen replied. As soon as she realized she wasn't feeling cold anymore, she got shocked. "Who is he?" she thought. Could it be that he is not an ordinary person as she thought he was? Apparently a bad energy just entered the room and Prince George felt it too. It wasn't just any bad energy, it was strong and with Jen's low ability of sense, instead of her guts sensing danger her body felt went cold. As the king summoned everyone to the table, Jen sneaked back to her room to change and go to the forest. As she changed, the golden pendant from her previous dress started glowing. She took it out and studied it. The pendant was made of pure gold, with intricate designs and patterns etched into its surface. It was shaped like a tiger's head, with two small rubies for eyes. After studying it for along time and still having no idea of its function, it began to vibrate. "What's going on?" she thought. As it vibrated, the glowing became brighter, and it started to levitate while releasing golden energy around itself. Watching it closely with mixed feelings, she touched it. Immediately after getting in contact with the golden pendant, she blacked out. While nobody but Prince George noticed that Jen was not there, the party continued. The following day, she was woken up by a loud knock on her bedroom door. As she stretched out her arms, she shrieked in shock. "What am I doing in my bed?" she wondered. If she remembered correctly, the previous night, after the golden pendant started acting strangely and she touched it, she blacked out on her chair, not in her bed. Anyway, she had to attend to the door. She got off her bed and rushed to the door. It was Sharon. "Oh, Third Princess!" Sharon said, trembling. Seeing her like this scared Jen a little. "Did something bad happen?" Jen thought. "What happened?" Jen asked. "Why do you look scared?" Instead of answering her, Sharon pulled her arm towards her parents' room. "Here comes the princess!" one of the servants said, standing outside. Outside the room, some of the servants of the palace were standing. Seeing many people standing outside her parents' room made Jen nervous about what she was about to see inside. She immediately rushed into the room and saw her parents lying on their bed with their eyes closed. Standing next to the bed was their family doctor. The first thing she did was try to wake up her parents. She gently tapped their arms. "Mother! Father! Wake up!" There was no response or movement from them. Her eyes became teary when she realized what was happening. "Mother! Father! Please wake up! Father!" Sharon went to her side to comfort her, but surprisingly, Jen shook her off and looked at the doctor with red eyes. "Doctor, what happened to them?" she asked in a hoarse voice. The doctor silently looked at her for a second with a pitying look before saying, "I'm sorry, Princess. The king and queen have left us." Immediately, tears streamed down her cheeks. "No! No! That's impossible!" She shook her head in disbelief. "They were fine yesterday. No! It can't be." "Get her some water," the doctor ordered one of the servants. "I'm deeply sorry for your loss, Princess," he said gently, rubbing her back. After a few minutes of crying, she raised her head and gave a cold look to the doctor. "What is the cause of their death?" she asked in a cold tone that everyone present in the room got surprised, as it was their first time hearing such a tone from her. "They died from poison," the doctor replied. "We have called General Xander, as well as the other family members." She didn't say anything after that. Her mind was occupied with getting revenge for her parents. "I'm sorry to have to leave you in moments like this, but I have to go for now. I will be back later. Stay strong, my Princess." He took his things and left. Jen looked at her parents and turned to look at Sharon, who was next to her. "Who was the last person seen with them, and who was the last servant to serve them?" Being intimidated by her gaze, Sharon stuttered a bit. "M-my Princess, General Xander. They were sitting together at the greenhouse. I don't know who was serving them." Upon hearing the name, immediately her pupils shrunk. "General Xander?" She stuttered herself. Sharon didn't see anything wrong with it, so she responded freely. "Yes, my Princess." At that moment, Jen was so angry, especially at herself. "I want to be alone with them." Sharon bowed down before telling everyone to leave the room. After she was left alone, she began sobbing. She gently held their hands and said, "Father, Mother, I'm sorry for not being there with you guys. I wish I could go back in time and spend more time with you. I know you love me, but I don't think I will be able to forgive myself." "I guess I was so obsessed with unlocking my stupid powers that I forgot the most important thing – my family." She wiped off her tears, trying to be strong. "And I promise you that I will make sure the person who is responsible for this suffers a painful death."
