In the afternoon, Jen sat in her usual spot, surrounded by the five tallest trees in the forest. These trees made her feel safe whenever she was among them. As she read her book in silence, her mind absorbed the words. Various animals gathered around, a common occurrence when she meditated or read. She assumed they had grown accustomed to her presence and felt safe.
The book, with 565 pages, was challenging to understand, but Jen refused to give up. She had only grasped six pages, and currently, she was on page seven. As she reads deeper into the book, the text became increasingly difficult. This page focused on special moves, including
"Cheetah Strike!"
"Speed Boost!"
"Agility Dodge!"
"Quick Draw"
and "Rapid Fire"
Today, she decided to focus on "Agility Dodge".
Although she was an impatient person, Jen knew how to remain calm. She read and memorized the lines before standing up. Assuming a running position, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and repeated the lines:
"Find your angle. Focus your eyes on the prey. Feel the beat of your heart as it guides you. Run." As she spoke, she ran, but failed to dodge the trees. Every attempt left her frustrated.
After several tries, Jen sat down, panting, and exclaimed, "Why can't I do this right?"
She rested before returning to the palace. With her legs aching she paid no attention to what she was leaving.
Upon her arrival, her three servants, Violetta, Sharon, and Melody, greeted her.
"Third Princess!" they said in unison, bowing.
"Good afternoon," Jen replied with her signature smile.
Violetta asked, "Would you like to have a bath first or eat, Princess?"
"A bath will be fine," Jen said.
While the servants prepared the bath, Jen undressed herself in her room with Melody's assistance. After her bath, they helped her get dressed.
As they brushed her hair, the servants giggled. Jen asked, "What's amusing you?"
Sharon blushed, and Jen teased, "Did you meet your godly handsome man today, Sharon?"
Melody revealed, "It's your godly handsome man who came looking for you today, Princess." She smiled childishly. " Prince George."
Jen's face fell upon hearing the name: Prince George, the second son of King Cassius. He had been pursuing her since she was 16, but Jen rejected him, citing their four-year age difference as an excuse. She wanted to unlock her powers before marrying. It didn't matter to her even if it takes years, plus she never liked Prince George anyway.
Sharon explained, "He asked if he could have dinner with the princess tonight, but when he heard about the king's birthday celebration tomorrow, he decided to attend that instead."
Jen was annoyed, having nearly forgotten about her father's birthday. "It's Father's birthday tomorrow?"
Violetta nodded and responded, "Princess, don't tell me you had forgotten."
Jen sighed, "Oh my goodness, I've been too focused on unlocking my powers; I've hardly been at home."
"Where are the king and queen?" Jen asked.
"They left this morning; they haven't returned yet," Melody replied.
Jen assumed, "They must be planning for the party."
As she looked at her reflection in the mirror, Jen thought, "If only I had unlocked all my powers."
During dinner, Jen remembered something from the book about "Agility Dodge". Thinking she had cracked it, she excused herself.
"Excuse me, Father and Mother; I just remembered something important I need to do."
The queen instructed, "Remember, tomorrow is a special day; don't stay up too late."
Jen reassured her, "Don't worry, Mother; I'll never do anything to ruin Father's special day."
After kissing her parents goodnight, Jen rushed to her room. She searched for the book, only to realize she had left it in the forest. Her mind went numb.
"What do I do?" she thought, nervously biting her nails. She couldn't tell her parents, as they would send guards to retrieve the book, potentially discovering her secret practice spot.
What must she do?
She decided to wait until everyone was asleep and then snuck out. Once she managed to get out of the palace without being seen, she made her way down the valley and into the Shadowwood forest. She was sure she would find what she was looking for there, as no ordinary person in their right mind would venture deep into this forest, especially at night. There were many rumors about this forest.
Some said people who had come here at night saw many unusual things, but most of them were just shadows. It was said that the shadows were the ghosts of dead people, and their spirits were lost, filling the forest with bad energy.
In Jen's case, it was totally the opposite. Ever since the day she discovered this place, she had never felt any bad energy around her. With that, she was fearless. As she got closer to her spot, she switched off the lamp. It wasn't really that dark, as she could perfectly navigate her way to her spot.
Getting closer, she stopped as she sensed someone's presence.
