(Ryan's POV) I shouldn’t have come over today. The second I knocked on Caleb’s door, I knew it was a mistake. But ignoring his texts had become more exhausting than just showing up, so here I was—scrolling through my phone, pretending like I didn’t have bigger s**t to deal with while I waited for him to finish up whatever he was doing so that we could head out. The whole time I'd been here, Caleb's words kept clawing at me. “She was going off about how you have some kind of 'savior complex'. Like,‘Oh, Ryan just thinks he’s so high and mighty, swooping in to help like he’s doing me some huge favor'." It just didn’t make sense. Ashleigh had thanked me after I helped her with that fridge. She’d given me a drink—an olive branch, even if it was small. But Caleb wouldn’t just lie. Right?
