Where My Story Truly Started
Nila stood on her balcony, the soft morning light wrapping around her like a warm blanket. The world was just waking up, the sounds of chirping birds filling the air, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee clung around her. She took a deep breath, letting the coffee awaken her senses further. Today marked a new chapter in her life as she stepped into her first day at Technologent Industries in Seoul. Arriving at the office, a wave of excitement washed over her. The modern architecture of the building was a reflection of innovation, and she felt a surge of anticipation. As she walked through the entrance, she spotted a lively woman approaching her.“Hey, what’s your name? Are you the new employee?” the woman asked, her tone friendly and inviting. “Yes, ma’am, my name is Nila,” she replied, a hint of nervousness in her voice. “Oh, you’re Nila! Come inside, why are you standing outside?” the woman said with a warm smile. “My name is Kim Haeunji.” Haeunji introduced Nila to the rest of the team, guiding her to her desk and explaining her duties. Nila felt the anxiety of starting a new job melt away as her colleagues welcomed her with open arms. They were eager to help, and as the day unfolded, she found herself laughing and engaging in conversations, her heart swelling with gratitude. The first day lived up to her expectations. Despite the learning curve, she felt at home among her new coworkers. After work, she decided to explore the park, wanting to absorb every bit of her new environment. Lost in the beauty of the streetlights and bustling crowds, she almost lost track of time. Checking her phone, she noticed it was already 8:00 PM. Nila hurried back home, her mind racing with the day's events. Dinner was a simple affair, yet she savoured each bite, reflecting on the kindness of her coworkers and the exhilarating atmosphere of her new office. As days turned into weeks, Nila settled into her routine. The rhythm of work became familiar, although the challenges grew. Some nights, she would return home later than intended, juggling projects and deadlines. One evening, after a tiring day, she sat on her couch, feeling the weight of exhaustion. Her phone buzzed with a notification, a message from her neighbour. “Be careful when walking home late. There have been reports of drunken people attacking women on the roadside.” While she brushed off the warning, her mind couldn’t shake off the remnants of anxiety. Fear crept in as she thought about her safety. However, she reminded herself of the importance of resilience. She decided to stay alert but not let fear control her. The next night, as she walked home, her senses heightened. The streets were quieter than usual, the sound of her footsteps reverberating against the pavement. Nila noticed the surrounding shadows, but she kept walking, determined. Just then, she heard laughter coming from a nearby bar.
