Lyl ran as fast as she could while carrying her bag. It's thirteen minutes past one o'clock and she's running late for Biology. She had slept inside the library and should the bell did not ring, she won't wake up!
"b****y tarnation!"
Catching up her breath, she slowly opened the door to the Biology lab, "My— apologies f-for —being late."
All eyes darted towards Lyl. Everyone was in their seats save for her and
"Arren?" she stunned when she saw him in front of her. They're in the same class!
"Miss Auberon, would you please take your seat immediately so this classmate of yours can introduce himself to the class?" Behind Arren was a woman in her late 20s with her long wavy auburn hair falling to her sides, wearing a white long-sleeve polo shirt paired with a maroon skirt.
"O-of course, Professor Wendy." She rushed to the empty seat at the back.
"Ehem. Hello again, everyone. I am A-arren Sorath. Pleased to meet you all," Arren smiled.
She couldn't believe it. Earlier in the library, she was just dreaming about living hell in the schoolroom with both the Corbett brothers in her class and suddenly a knight barged in riding a horse, pulling her up to save her from the villains. Later the knight removed his helmet and Arren's face appeared right before her.
She slapped herself and tried to focus. What's gotten into her? She just met the man but she's already dreaming of him!
A hand covered in bandage went to her desk, putting a white piece of paper that says "Detention."
"Late on your first day, I see, my lady?" Lyl looked at Kite in horror. They're in the same class again!
She took the detention slip and positioned her fingers to tear it apart. "Do not mess with me, Corbett."
Kite fakely gasped, "Mess with you? I was just passing down a missive." He leaned back a little enough for her to see Dennis sitting two seats away from him. She widened her eyes at the sight of the regent.
She gulped and read the detention slip. On the very first day, she received a detention slip for tardiness! But wait, only those who skip classes and cause trouble receive detention slips so why did she receive—
Reason for detention: did not attend the assembly
She paused. But she went to the theater earlier!
Name: Malachi Theron Corbett
She looked at him and saw him chuckling, biting his lips. That dratted wolf! He tricked her! If only there was soil around, she'd use her ability to crumble him!
"My abilities?? Well.. Uhm..." Arren looked at Dennis. "I don't have one," he nervously smiled.
"A cripple, cute," Lyl whispered in her seat.
Kite frowned, "You call a cripple cute? Something's b****y wrong with you."
She just rolled her eyes. "At least he's good looking, unlike you."
"Ha! I'm pretty sure I'm prettier than you—" both of them startled when the girl sitting before Lyl slammed a notepad.
"Shut up, you two!" was written.
Lyl and Kite looked at each other, then at the blonde girl. She was the girl who gave Lyl her class schedule earlier.
"The creepy girl from earlier," Lyl called her.
"You didn't have to slam it, Mel," Kite rested his arm on his desk.
"You may take your seat, Arren. Alright, everyone. Let's start the class."
~~~
Lyl endured her afternoon classes with Kite always sitting beside her. Even when she exits first, he would always tail her towards the next schoolroom. She tried to preserve her temper as she didn't want Arren to see that side of her.
Finally, the bell rang in time for dismissal.
Dennis stood up and approached Kite. "You're not allowed to return to the dorms until you've finished your punishment."
"What kind of punishment is it?" Kite asked.
"Don't know, don't care."
"b****y hell."
"At last! No more pesky canine for the day!" Lyl stretched her arms wide, almost hitting Kite's cheeks.
"You're not planning to hit me, are you? Too bad, shorty. You'd have to grow taller if you wanna reach—" He howled when she kicked his crotch.
"Oof," Arren and Dennis said.
"What the hell, woman?!" He grabbed his crotch and jumped away from her.
"Hmph," Lyl gracefully walked past him and left the schoolroom. She sighed heavily and leaned by the wall. She took a peek by the door to see Arren. She saw him smiling while talking to Dennis. Her heart beat faster.
Perhaps distancing herself from him for a while might stop her palpitations. She just met the dandy but his effect on her is b****y serious! He's just so cute! And his eyes are so daring, she wants to stare at him for too long!
She shook her head. She's gonna lose her mind if she keeps thinking about him. She went to the cafeteria to cool down her head.
"Peanut butter ice cream please," she ordered. Brenda snapped her fingers and poofed a cup of peanut butter ice cream in front of her. "Thank you, Brenda." She took a spoon and grabbed the cup. She decided to hang out in the garden for a while before going home.
"Ahh, peace."
She sat on the bench under the gazebo and breathed. Today's been a hectic day with Kite in her class. The dratted wolf never shuts his mouth. Fortunately, they were sitting at the back of Professor Wendy's lab in Biology class, but they never escaped Professor Merrick's ears even when they were sitting at the farthest end of the schoolroom. They had to answer a question about how Argen became a kingdom, the topic they had discussed last year. Lucky for Kite because Professor Merrick gave him an easy question, but she humiliated herself after answering a more difficult question, one that they had not talked about.
She shook her head. She didn't come here to stress herself. She has a lot of studying to do so she ought to leave soon.
She stood up, threw the ice cream cup in the trash bin, then took her bag, ready to leave. She forgot she had books to leave in her locker so she went back inside the castle.
She opened her locker, not noticing a piece of paper falling out. She put her books in and arranged them by length. She stopped when the same blonde girl who gave her schedule earlier picked up the paper on the floor and handed it to her.
"Thanks, again," she said. The girl just nodded and walked away.
She stared at the paper, wondering what was written inside. Who could it be from? She put the paper in the pocket inside her jacket and closed her locker. She went to the lobby to wait for her carriage to arrive. She took out the paper and just stared at it.
Hours had passed and the sun already set, the Auberon carriage still didn't arrive. What could have happened? The coach always arrives on time. It was strictly ordered by her father to ensure her safety.
"Yo, shorty, why are you here?"
She turned her head to her side and saw Kite standing next to her. His punishment must already be finished.
"Waiting."
Kite rose an eyebrow and asked, "Waiting for?"
"My carriage, of course."
The confusion was visible in Kite's face. Why would she wait for her carriage? He then noticed the note she was holding. "What's that? A love letter?"
"I don't know. I have not read it yet."
"Okay? Why don't you read it right now?"
"Because I do not want to and it is none of your concern."
"I hope that's a death threat," he said before leaving Lyl.
She rolled her eyes. It might be a death threat, but it might also not. It wouldn't be bad if she read it right now when there are no more people around.
With no hesitation anymore, she unfolded the missive.
