Betrayal on their Anniversary
Amelia Hamilton had been married to Andrew Blackwood for five years. Their relationship, at first glance, seemed like a classic tale of love transcending social barriers. Andrew had risen from the obscurity of the lower class in their country, clawing his way to the pinnacle of the upper class, gaining influence, wealth, and power along the way. What made this rise even more astonishing was that Amelia had carefully concealed her own affluent background from him, choosing instead to let Andrew believe they were both self-made. She wanted his success to feel entirely his own, untouched by any legacy she carried. Today marked their 5th wedding anniversary, a milestone Amelia had anticipated with excitement and hope. The sun was bright but tempered by a gentle spring breeze as she stood outside Andrew’s sleek, glass-fronted office building. Reporters had gathered, their microphones and cameras flashing incessantly, eager for any hint of news from the enigmatic businessman who had recently taken the country by storm. “Where’s Andrew? I mean,” Amelia asked with a mixture of curiosity and impatience, glancing towards the revolving doors. Amelia clutched a bouquet of freshly picked lilies in one hand—soft petals kissed by morning dew—and an exquisitely crafted wristwatch in the other, its gold face gleaming faintly in the daylight. It was the perfect anniversary gift, one she had chosen with love, a symbol of time shared and memories made. “Goodday, ma’am,” the receptionist said coolly, not even looking up from her screen. “Your husband is in his office. You can go meet him there.” Amelia’s heart fluttered with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. What kind of husband does he have? she wondered, pushing the thought aside as she made her way down the polished corridor lined with expensive artwork and marble flooring. Each step echoed softly as she approached his office, the glass door revealing a glimpse of Andrew inside. She opened the door slowly—and then everything shattered. There, in the privacy of his office, was Andrew, locked in a compromising embrace with another woman. The sight struck Amelia like a physical blow, her breath catching painfully in her throat. “What?!” she screamed, voice trembling with shock and betrayal. “What is going on here? Who are you to be doing this with my husband?” Her eyes burned with disbelief, her mind racing to understand how the man she loved could betray her so callously. The carefully wrapped gifts slipped from her fingers and clattered onto the floor, petals and luxury scattered in her wake. The other woman, Camilla, smiled with a cold arrogance that cut deeper than any insult. “Oh, I get it now. This is the miserable woman you married. Just look at her—like a common housewife. You are nothing compared to Andrew.” Her voice dripped with scorn. “A man like Andrew deserves someone better, someone who fits his new status as head of the Blackwood Empire—rising from below the table to the top.” Camilla’s confidence filled the room like poison. She was polished, impeccably dressed, with an air of entitlement that made her look every bit the part of a business titan’s partner. Andrew’s expression was hard and unforgiving as he spoke coldly, “I don’t have time to talk to you. You are no longer worthy of me. Just a common housewife. A man like me, heading the Blackwood Empire—which will soon be one of the country’s top conglomerates—needs someone capable to stand by my side. Camilla is that person, not you.” The harsh truth struck Amelia like a blow. Five years of marriage, love, and loyalty, reduced to nothing in a matter of moments. “You have been nothing but trouble,” Andrew continued, his voice void of any affection. “You have neither supported nor assisted me. All this I built by myself—with Camilla’s help. I reward Camilla for her efforts. Now, I have decided to marry her and divorce you immediately. I’ll have my lawyers prepare the papers, and you will sign them.” Amelia’s world crumbled further. “What? Are you serious, Andrew? You’re going to divorce me after five years for some unknown woman who claims to support you? I don’t know who she really is—she’s nothing but an impostor. You shouldn’t listen to her.” Her defiance was met with a sharp slap across the cheek, the sting burning more than her skin. “How dare you speak so lowly of Camilla!” Andrew growled. “Do you know who she is? She’s the daughter of the Stallion Group, one of the most prestigious companies in the country. She’s been instrumental in my growth. Apologize to her right now, or I’ll have security throw you out.” Tears welled up in Amelia’s eyes, but she held her ground. “Andrew, you slapped me! We’ve been married five years! Is it because of this woman? I hope you don’t regret this.” Camilla smirked triumphantly. “You must be joking. How could an intelligent man like Andrew—who works day and night to lead one of the most powerful groups in the country—abandon you, a common housewife who only knows how to do housework? Look at yourself and look at me. While you stayed home, I was with Andrew in the office. We have built the Blackwood Empire together. Now it’s time for you to leave and let me be with Andrew.” Amelia’s voice cracked as she stepped closer to Andrew. “Everything was fine—like a dream family. Maybe there’s been a misunderstanding, but you can’t leave me after five years, especially not today. Today was supposed to be joyful, not the day we separate.” “Let go of me, Amelia,” Andrew said, pushing her away coldly. He then pulled Camilla close, wrapping his arm possessively around her. “She’s the woman I want now, not you. Leave my office immediately, or I’ll have security remove you.” “Andrew, do you regret this decision? I have supported you, helped you rise from obscurity to the top. Now you want to throw me away like trash? I won’t accept it,” Amelia said, her voice breaking with pain. “How dare you say that? You must be crazy,” Andrew snapped. His patience exhausted, he dragged Amelia out of his office and through the stunned corridors of the company. Employees who knew of their marriage watched, bewildered and silent, as Andrew’s cold fury unfolded. At the exit, he threw her out and commanded the security guards sternly, “Never allow her back.” Shock rippled through the staff. They had never imagined Andrew capable of such public humiliation. To clear the air and assert his new reality, Andrew made a formal announcement: “Starting today, Amelia Hamilton is no longer my wife. We will divorce as soon as possible. No one should regard her as head of this family. That title belongs to Camilla, who has been my support all these years.” Murmurs of surprise and reluctant agreement spread; Camilla had indeed always been close to Andrew, a visible presence at his side. “You cannot return to your duties here,” Andrew said, his tone final, before retreating to his office with Camilla trailing behind him. Amelia stood frozen in shock. Everything felt surreal, like a nightmare she couldn’t wake from. She had loved and supported Andrew with every fiber of her being, but now, she was cast aside—heartlessly and cruelly—out of the company they had once dreamed of building together.
