The Night of Hidden Desires

1516 Words
Arav sat alone in the university campus, feeling completely lost. His mind was spinning, yet it kept returning to one name—Ishika. Since returning from the village, not a single day had passed without him thinking about her. He felt a deep, one-sided love, a mix of longing and helplessness. He kept thinking, “Ishika… how did she end up like this? She deserves so much more… someone like her should be a princess, not trapped in this life.” The world around him seemed meaningless, a flashy, noisy place that felt empty compared to the memory of her soft smile, radiant face, and graceful presence. He felt like a lost soul in this glittering world, unnoticed, overwhelmed by his feelings. Just then, his phone rang. He saw her name flash on the screen—Ishika. “Hello, Arav! How are you?” Arav jumped slightly, his heart racing. He quickly picked up, trying to sound calm. “I… I’m fine… Ishika ji. How are you?” “I’m fine. I have waited so much for you… I thought maybe you would call, but you didn’t. I wait for your call every day,” she said softly. Arav’s chest tightened. Her words were gentle, yet they pierced through him like an electric shock. He could barely speak. “I… I’m so sorry… ever since you left, I haven’t got a chance… I mean… I wanted to call, but I couldn’t. Everyone at home was there…” “What happened, Arav? Why do you sound so sad?” Ishika’s voice was full of concern, her care evident even over the phone. Arav swallowed hard. He couldn’t stop the emotions from spilling out. “Nothing… it’s just… I miss you… I think about you all the time,” he whispered. He felt overwhelmed with love for her, so strong that it made his chest ache. “I’m still at my place now… I will talk to you later,” he added, trying to steady himself. “Yes… we can talk at night for the next two days,” Ishika said softly, her voice carrying a small excitement. “My husband is away for two days, so I’ll be alone… this is the only chance I get to talk freely.” Her words made Arav’s heart skip a beat. The thought that she was giving him even a small window to talk, despite her family and responsibilities, felt like a miracle. He silently promised himself he would treasure every moment of these conversations. Sitting there, staring at her name on his phone, he realized: his feelings for her were deep, real, and impossible to ignore. She was married, her life was full of restrictions, yet somehow, she had given him a glimpse of her world, and that was enough to keep his heart beating faster, every single day. ---------------------------------------------------- Night: The Call The night was quiet, the city sleeping, but in Arav’s dorm, his heart was wide awake. His phone had been ringing in anticipation all evening. Finally, it buzzed—Ishika calling. “Hello, Arav?” Her voice came through softly, carrying warmth, laughter, and a strange excitement. “Hi… Ishika ji… how are you?” Arav whispered, trying to steady his racing heart. “I’m fine… finally I got some time to talk. My husband and family are away for two days… so this is the only chance I get to speak freely.” Arav’s chest tightened. Just hearing her voice, imagining her free for once, made him feel alive and anxious at the same time. “I’ve been waiting for your call… every single day,” he confessed. “I think about you all the time… I can’t stop.” There was a soft pause. Then Ishika giggled, her laugh light and musical, carrying warmth across the line. “Arav… your words… you sound so young, yet so mature, so handsome… I never imagined someone like you would care. Yet, here you are, making me laugh.” Arav smiled faintly, swallowing hard. Her laughter felt like magic, and he realized she had listened to him all night, completely open, laughing freely—something so rare in her life that it made his heart ache and glow at the same time. Curious, she asked softly, “Tell me, Arav… is there anyone you like? Someone you love? Or someone special in your heart?” Arav paused, heart pounding. He could feel his words trembling. “I… I have someone in mind… my dream girl,” he said quietly, keeping the name hidden. “Someone who… someone who is perfect in every way.” He let a soft silence hang, letting Ishika sense the truth without him saying it outright. A pause, then Ishika shared, her voice soft but full of longing: “Arav… I had dreams once… big dreams. I wanted to do my MBA… become a successful entrepreneur… live my life in a way I imagined. But… I got married after 12th grade. My family married me into a good house, the best they could find based on my status… but I… I wanted more. I wanted to build, achieve, and live freely. Yet here I am… a housewife, bound by rules, traditions… and though my husband loves me… I feel trapped. Arav felt a pang in his heart. Her words, her honesty, her gentle sadness—it all pierced through him. “Ishika… you deserve so much more. You’re too special for this… too talented, too beautiful, too alive,” he said, voice thick with emotion. “Sometimes, when I talk to you, laugh with you… I feel like myself again. For a moment… I’m free, Arav. And that… that is why these nights are so precious.” Arav closed his eyes, holding his phone close. He felt the weight of her world, the limits she lived under, and yet the spark of life she let him see. “Then we will treasure these two nights,” he whispered. “Just talk, laugh, share… no rules, no boundaries. Just you and me… as we are.” Her soft giggle came across the line again, full of warmth and a hint of shyness. “Yes… but Arav… be careful. My heart is fragile… and my world… complicated.” “I will be careful,” he whispered. “But I can’t promise I won’t fall even more… for you.” The night stretched on. They talked about dreams, childhood memories, small desires, fears, and laughter. Arav listened as she shared, truly listened, as Ishika revealed the dreams she could never follow. Every word, every laugh, every pause brought them closer. He felt like he could touch her soul even through the phone. By the end of the night, both were exhausted but exhilarated, hearts racing, emotions raw. Arav realized this connection—stolen, fragile, and impossible—was something he could never let go. Ishika, too, felt a strange freedom she had longed for all her life. That night, between laughs, confessions, and shared dreams, a bond formed: one of deep emotional intimacy, secret desires, and an unspoken, growing attraction. The Morning After --------------------- The next day, Arav woke up with a smile that refused to leave his face. He felt lighter, as if the heavy thirst of years had finally been quenched in just one night. Every little word from last night echoed in his mind, and he couldn’t stop replaying Ishika’s laughter, her voice, her dreams, her secrets. Walking across his university campus, he caught himself smiling without reason. Friends noticed, some even teased him, but Arav didn’t care. For him, the world had suddenly become brighter. He realized something—Ishika’s way of speaking, her thoughts, her hidden desires—were not of a simple housewife, but of a highly educated, deeply thoughtful woman. She was unlike anyone he had ever met. On the other side, Ishika was living her own silent transformation. That morning she moved through her housework in a daze, her lips curved into a soft smile she couldn’t control. She found herself humming, even talking to herself, remembering Arav’s words. For the first time in years, Ishika felt her buried desires slowly rising to the surface. It was as if the parts of her she had locked away long ago—her dreams, her youth, her unspoken wishes—were finally finding a voice again. Arav’s presence, even from far away, had awakened something powerful within her. As she stood by the window, folding clothes absentmindedly, she thought: “Why does he understand me this way? Why does his voice stay in my heart even after the call ends?” Her life had been full of responsibilities, boundaries, and silence. But with Arav, there were no rules. With him, she could dream out loud, laugh without fear, and share her heart without limits. And for that—she was happy. Truly happy. Both Arav and Ishika, in their separate worlds, carried the same thought all day: “Finally, I have someone who sees the real me.”
