Gabriella explained to the girl that she was not pregnant, but she planned to present Rachel’s baby as her own when it was born. She told the girl that her parents were excited about having a grandchild, and she couldn’t bear to tell them that she wasn’t really pregnant. She assured her that her baby would be loved and brought up in a well to do home. That made Rachel feel better about her decision.
Rachel had just turned 18 and had graduated from high school. She didn’t have a job, a home or a family since her father had thrown her out on finding out that she was pregnant. The baby’s father didn’t want the baby or her, so when Gabriella came along, Rachel was thinking she would be living on the street. That is why she readily accepted Gabriella’s offer of room and board, prenatal care, transportation, and five thousand dollars when the baby is born.
Gabriella had money she inherited when her grandfather died, so that was not anything to her. Besides her own money, her parents were wealthy. Gabriella had hoped to secure her future with the Lawson fortune as well, and this baby was her ticket to financial freedom, she thought.
If she could not kill Sasha, she would just have to turn Aiden against her, Gabriella decided. She would win him back with his “son” in the process, she thought, plotting her revenge on Sasha.
Sasha had returned to work the following Monday, and Gabriella was following her, hoping to build her case against the girl.
To Gabriella’s surprise and happiness, she was able to snap multiple pictures of Sasha with a male coworker that made her look guilty of infidelity to Aiden.
The two were playful and friendly, laughing and enjoying their shift together. It was a birthday party on their unit for Terrance, and that is why Sasha hugged Terrance in the one photo. There were other coworkers along with the two who also hugged him, but Gabriella’s pictures did not show them. In her pics, it looked like the two were romantically involved. She also took pics of the two on their lunch break outside, which was also with others that were not in her pics.
Gabriella laughed with excitement as she looked at the photos, thinking how Aiden would react to seeing them.
“I need a photocopy of your ultrasound, Rachel. I can cut off your name and write mine in. I want to have something to show Aiden and his mother to convince them of the “baby” I’m carrying,” Gabriella told Rachel with an evil laugh.
Rachel felt bad to be part of this big deception, but she could not raise this child on her own, and she needed money and a place to stay until she was able to make a life for herself. The baby was starting to kick, though, and a maternal bond was forming despite her decision to sell her child. She secretly talked to her baby at night, caressing her belly and singing to him.
“I wonder if you will look like your father, tall, dark, and handsome, with satiny black hair and brown eyes. Or will you look like me, with red hair and blue eyes. I hope you look like him. Even if he didn’t want us, I can’t deny my love for him,” Rachel told her son.
Gabriella had not thought to ask about the father’s looks. She found the red-haired girl with blue eyes and thought how lucky she was to find someone so close to Aiden’s features. She could be in for a surprise if the baby took after its father instead.
