Sabrina
"What?" I was in shock at what I just heard.
"Eva is not his mate. She is the other healer here in the pack and his current flavor of the month." Zack says, hanging his head.
"I see. I shouldn't have assumed. I tend to forget that not every pack feels the same as my home pack." I say gently.
"I'm sure he will come and apologize to you at some point. He isn't usually that careless. He seems to have not remembered your arrival today. How about we go and take a look at your new home?" He asks with a smile.
"That sounds great, actually. Lead the way." I motion for him to lead the way.
The van follows him out toward a more remote area of the pack. One of the things that I had asked for is a home that is not surrounded by so many people. I like my privacy and having my own space to research. We stop in front of a moderately sized two-story home. I step out of the can, and the guys start pulling my stuff out of the van.
"Set everything wherever there is space. I'll organize it myself." I tell them.
"Are you sure that you want to be out this far? There have been lots of rogue attacks, and it would take a while to get to you." Zack says as he walks over to me.
"I'll be fine. I have trained since I was a child. The need to have some privacy is a little more important to me. I also want anyone coming to me for help to feel like they are being watched by anyone." I smile as I say this.
"It makes sense. I want you to be safe, so I'll give you my number just in case. If there is anything you need please ask. Oh, and do you need a car?" He asks, smiling at me.
"I was hoping to get one," I tell him, knowing that it will take me too long to walk to the stores.
"I will have one dropped off for you. We keep a supply for those who work for the pack. Alpha Oliver likes to make sure that those who do the most for the pack, get compensated with things to make their jobs easier. I'll be on my way. have a good evening Sabrina." Zack turns and walks away after handing me the Keyes to my home.
The guys finish unloading my things and then head out themselves. They have a long trip back, and I'm sure they want to get back as soon as possible. I walk into the house, and a smile lights my face. It's decorated in a very old-fashioned style, and I instantly fall in love with it.
I find the master bedroom upstairs, and I love every part of it. My en-suite bathroom has a huge tub and a walk-in shower. I can see myself spending plenty of time in that tub. I tour the rest of the home and find a perfect room for my research. I can easily set up a lab and get all the equipment I brought in here.
I mainly work with finding herbs and things in nature that will help with the process of healing that we already have as wolves. There are times when injuries or illnesses can take longer to heal than we would like. I like to find ways to boost our healing to shorten those times.
I find a welcome basket on the bar in the kitchen, and it has menus for several takeout restaurants that deliver. I pull out my phone and order a pizza to munch on while I unpack. I put on some music and enjoy my evening of pizza and unpacking.
The next morning, I'm sitting eating cold pizza watching television, when there is a knock at the door. I answer to find a young man standing there smiling. He looks to be about my age and seems to be a friendly person.
"Hi, you must be Sabrina." He says as I open the door.
"That's me," I say with a small smile.
"I'm Kyle, I'm a warrior for the pack. Gamma Zack asked me to bring you the car that you asked for." He motioned to a small SUV parked in my driveway.
"Thank you so much. I needed to go into town and get a few things." A large smile covers my face.
"In that case would you mind giving me a lift back then?" He asks, eyes full of hope.
"Sure, if you don't mind giving me a few minutes to finish eating."
Kyle comes inside, and I offer him some pizza, which he gladly accepts. We talk a little and get to know each other some. I find out that he is the same age as me and has yet to meet his mate. He isn't too worried about it since he goes on plenty of dates with the unmated she-wolves in the pack.
He's a sweet guy who is pretty funny. I think he and I could be friends as long as he understands my need to have my alone time. In the past, I had problems keeping friends because I tend to be less social than others. Wolves are social creatures, and many have a hard time understanding when someone wants to spend as much time alone as I do.
We drive into town, and Kyle gives me the rundown of what types of stores are here. Wolves and humans have had a good relationship for the last hundred years, so we can have lots of options on things we need. Now that they know of our existence, we can openly trade and help each other.
Kyle heads off to do whatever it is he needs to do next, and I head into the grocery store. I find myself walking up and down the aisles in search of all the things that I will need to get started in the kitchen. I'm stopped in an aisle, looking at pasta when a black-haired woman comes up to me.
"You must be the new healer. I'm Eva, the personal healer for Oliver." She states, holding her hand out for me to shake.
"Oh, hi. Yes, I'm Sabrina. Nice to meet you, Eva. I was hoping to get to meet you soon." I say and smile at her.
She is a gorgeous she-wolf. Her long black hair frames her face perfectly, and she has sky blue eyes that pop with the contrast of her dark hair. She smiles, and of course, it's perfect. She gives off a confidence that I'm jealous of.
"Sorry that the first time we were around each other, you had to see that. Oliver gets pretty needy at times, and who am I to turn him down." She giggles as she says this. My face is most likely as red as an apple at this point.
"Of course." I chuckle trying, to hide my embarrassment.
"We've been together for about a year now, and I'm sure he is about to ask me to be his luna." She says.
"Did you both lose your mates? I'm so sorry." I feel genuine pain for them if that's true.
"Oh no. We have never found our mates. We're not getting any younger, and there needs to be an heir. Oliver told me that he likes me the most out of all the girls he's been with, so I think that it will happen any day now." Her eyes sparkle with excitement.
"Well, early congratulations, Eva. You're beautiful enough to be a luna." I say.
I'm happy for her. I know that we should wait for our mates, but it is her life, and who am I to judge her. I think that ultimately the Goddess wants us to be happy, that is the whole reason behind mates. If the alpha makes her happy, then I hope it works out for them.
Eva and I make plans to meet up and talk about how to handle the healing of the pack. She tells me that there is a clinic and wants to show me the layout. I don't know if I'll have to work only there or if I will be allowed to do some in my home.
I finish up my shopping and head back home. I find myself feeling at home here after only a day. The atmosphere here is pretty calm, and most of the people that I have talked to are friendly. I hope the same can be said for the alpha and beta of the pack. I have no idea of when I will meet them or even when my joining ceremony is.
Organization is one of my pet peeves, so it is a little disconcerting that my arrival and all that goes along with it have been less than organized. Walking in on the alpha having s*x, not knowing what is going on, and being unclear as to what my role is, makes me very uncomfortable. Only time will tell how it will all play out, but I can hope for the best.
