CHAPTER THIRTEEN Alexa wasn’t sure what to think about what she saw on the other side. The bedroom was a disaster area, at least what she could see of it. The blinds were drawn, the lights off, and the only illumination came from a computer screen with some first-person shooter video game. A heavyset figure sat slouched in a special lounge chair Alexa had heard called a “gaming chair,” a comfortable and adjustable seat favored by hardcore video game players. He had his back to them, busy blasting away at computerized cops. Blood sprayed on blue uniforms. Alexa frowned. A horrible funk fouled Alexa’s nostrils.
