Once upon a time near a Kingdom called Dothage there was a girl named Blaze and that was me. I was flying when I first saw him. There in front of me was a beautiful winged beast, he was a dragon too. Much like me he was blue green and his scales shimmered in the sunlight. When our eyes first met I blushed and couldn’t help but stare, but he just turned to fly away.
I took a step forward and yelled after him, “Wait, can I talk to you for a minute?”
He stopped and turned to look at me, “What? Is something wrong?” He started to fly over by me, “Is there something you wanted?”
I frowned, “Sorry I just wanted to talk, that's all.” I turned to fly away but in doing this he grabbed my arm. “Wait, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. Anyway were you going to say something?”
I blushed at the fact that his scaly hands and claws were wrapped about my arm. I pulled away and looked at him in confusion. “Uhhh...? I was just going to ask if you wanted to do something before but you started to fly away.” My voice shook as I spoke to him. “Nevermind though, If you gotta go...”
“No, please, It's fine. But it's up to you, where do you wanna go what do you wanna do? I’m Spike by the way.”
“I’m Blaze and uhhh I really don’t know but if you get any ideas please share them with me!” I replied as I smiled brightly and sat down.
“Well I have one idea….”
“And what’s that?” I got up and laid in the grass for better comfort.
“Well.” He stood in front of me, staring into my blue eyes as a long tongue came out of his mouth and flicked my cheek. “Will you go out with me?” He mumbled as he hid his face from blushing.
I swallowed hard and felt my stomach start to turn. “Me? I mean I guess. I don’t really know you though so no promises on how it’ll work out.”
Spike smirked as he started to walk away. He looked towards the sunset over the ocean and he stretched his long wings as if to get ready to fly but then closed them again. I sat there just looking at the color of his golden stomach, his blue green scales and blackish blue talons, he was simply beautiful. I couldn’t stop myself from staring at his perfection. His long tail curled around a rock and crushed some of it. He looked down at it and looked at the crumbled stones left behind. He started to smile as he looked into my eyes. Looking forward he noticed a ship that was wrecked and he saw a few dragons flying around it. “I hate dragons like this,” He said as he opened his wings and flew toward the wreck. As he landed he blew fire at the dragons and clawed at their eyes and stomachs, the weak spots.
Spike landed among the broadest ones neck and growled as he put claw marks down her back, “You dragons disgust me! We are supposed to be one with the humans and be their loyal friends but you damn dragons have to make a mess of the prophecy!” As he slayed the last one he turned to look back at me to make sure I was okay. “Sorry… You alright?” The look of worry in his eyes made me feel safe.
“I’m fine, thanks.” I smiled at him and got a smile in return. “Your eyes, they’re so green and yet so beautiful.” I gazed into his eyes like they were a black hole sucking me in.
“Thanks, I get that a lot. Mostly my life contains of other dragons following me unless I get a girlfriend or a girl that I like and hang with a lot, then they go away. I’ve never been a social butterfly.”
I stood there thinking of what it would be like to have a life like that, I wouldn’t like it at all. Maybe a bit at first but it would get annoying and in the way of my everyday life. At last I realized that I knew a place where he could hide from it all. “Wanna live a life without them following you?”
“That would be great but I don’t believe it to be possible to escape them.”
“But it is very possible if you come with me!”
“Where would we go?” He spread his wings and took flight, going in circles around me as he waited for an answer.
“Follow me and you’ll find out.” And with that I spread my wings and joined him in the air. Once I started flying he immediately went ahead. I caught up and we went towards a mountain I knew well, only a mile or two away. Not a far flight at all for a dragon. When we got near the area I landed and looked for it on foot. My scaly arm lifted as my blackish blue talon pointed to a cave. “There.” My tongue flicked as I walked towards it. He looked at it in confusion. “Why a cave, how will that help?” I took a step closer towards it, glanced at him then walked inside. “It's where I live. Thanks for the compliment.”
“Oh sorry.” Spike then walked inside and gazed upon everything in sight. The cave consisted of one thing and one thing only. Darkness.
“It's fine but anyway you can stay here if you want. I have no parents or family so it would just be us here unless you wanna stay by those freaks that follow you wherever you go every day. It's up to you.” I blew fire inside so we could see and I lit a fire among a pile of branches and logs that I set inside before I left.
“I didn’t even see those there,” he growled as he yawned and laid down beside the fire.
“Yeah I like to make things easier so I always keep branches here in case it’s dark when I get back home. Anyway you gonna stay here or go back to living the life of torture by other dragons?”
He stood and walked over by me. “I’d stay here for a thousand years if I could,” It was then that he realized there was a big scar on my arm and it was still bleeding, his long tongue licked it. “You okay? What happened?”
“Yeah I’m fine, I didn’t even feel it. Not to mention the fact that I didn’t realize it was there in the first place.” He stared at it like my arm was completely tore off. It was no longer than an inch and not very deep but it was bleeding and he didn’t like that one bit.
“You sure you're ok? I don’t want you to be hurt.”
He took things so seriously that it bothered me, but I can live with a protective guy I think. “Yeah it's fine. Like I said I can’t even feel it,” it hurt a little bit now that I noticed it but not too bad. And okay maybe the scar is a little bigger and deeper than I thought but it didn’t seem that bad.. “Uh yeah it um. Doesn’t hurt a bit. Oww.” blood started to drip off my talons as I grabbed my arm to try to get it to stop bleeding. He rushed over and tried to help.
“I thought you said you were okay! Great. Another injury.” I then realized that he was talking about the scar that he got across his back when he was fighting the other dragons.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was that bad.” It didn’t bother me hardly at all.
“You have blood gushing from your arm! How is there nothing bad about that!” He growled a bit then healed my arm somehow then walked away from me.
He walked back inside a few seconds later and laid on the cold hard ground.
I sighed and realized what I was doing to our newly formed relationship so I walked over to him and sat down. The fire that I lit inside before rose and started to burn some of the meat that was next to it but I didn’t mind. It was just going to get cooked eventually anyway. “I’m sorry, can we just forget this whole thing? I don’t want to fight over something stupid that I said.”
“Yeah sure,” I replied.
He smiled at me and his long tongue flicked my cheek once more. I blushed and then he began again. “I hate fighting, it just separates people and I don’t want to be separated from you.”
“Me either.” I agreed. It was nice to have some company for a change. It's usually really quiet out here.
“As long as the meat is being cooked, do you want some?”
“No thanks, I’ll go catch my own, I’ll be back soon, I just gotta learn the good hunting spots around here, usually I don't come this way.”
“Alright, be careful.”
Out of the corner of my eye I saw something flash outside so I went to see what it was. Another dragon. Taller and stronger than Spike was and he showed a lot of confidence in his eyes as he gleamed down at Spike and me as we stood there watching him. He outstretched his broad wings and flew down by us. He stared deeply into my eyes as I watched him. The way he landed with power and dignity gave me a chill and he licked my hand. I of course blushed and that set off Spike. He got more furious than when he was fighting the other dragons and he looked like he was about to rip his head off. “Spike don’t, it's fine. He didn’t mean anything by it… did you?”
“Well it was meant to say how beautiful you are but if you're with him or something then it didn’t mean anything. By the way I'm Auron, I can leave if you want.” he again stretched his wings, ready to take off.
“No, you're fine. I’m sure Spike won’t mind. He’s just about to go hunting anyway.” I smiled and got one in return… as always. He sat back down and closed his wings just as Spike took off.
“Don’t do anything stupid Blaze! I’m warning you!” and with that he was gone.
“So I guess it's just us then.” I smiled at him and he kinda looked at me weird.
We talked for awhile and I started flirting with him, completely forgetting that I’m not single anymore. Just then Spike got back and I confessed everything to him as Auron was flying away. He had a pissy look in his eye and I could tell that he wasn’t going to get over it easily.
“You stabbed me in the back!” He blew flames everywhere and threatened to leave me a few times as I tried to explain. Smoke was pouring out of his nose as he growled at me.
“I’m sorry…. I’m not used to being with someone, it was just flirting and I promise it won't happen again. It didn't mean anything.” I wasn’t lying. I really didn’t know why I did it.
“How can I trust you if you do this, if you’ll do it once you’ll do it again!” He roared as he spread his wings and flew away, “I’ll be back later but I’m not sure when and if I don’t know if I’m going to stay or not. I just need some time to think.” And as he said these last words, he was gone.
I was hoping that he’d be back soon so that we could try to talk things out but he didn’t come back for a while and I was starting to get hungry. I completely forgot about the meat I already had and I flew over a small forest not too far from the one that I had lived in. As I was about to land and go after a small deer I heard a roar and I had a good guess at who it was. I turned and sure enough it was him, the same elegant dragon that was here before. The one known as Auron. I landed and he did too.
“Hey beautiful, what's up?”
“Uhhh… nothing much, just a little hunting. But I think I should go…” He caught the look of worry in my eyes and he started to wonder.
“Is something wrong…?” He took a step closer and I took about 5 steps back.
“No nothing it's just I don’t think I should be around you… The last time I started flirting and everything and I don’t want that to happen again. Spike would kill us both and I couldn’t do that to him again when I didn’t even want to the first time. It just kinda happened and I'm sorry.”
“It's fine, I had a lot of fun.” He smiled and flicked his tongue against my cheek and I shuddered. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have done that…” He smirked and took a few steps closer. I stood there like a statue. I flicked my tongue at him warning him not to come closer and I bared my teeth but he just smiled and laughed. He smirked and I was completely lost but I still stood my ground and he flicked my tongue with his and suddenly I knew why he was laughing…. He wanted to kiss me and he did, our tongues met and I snapped at him. A small chunk of his tongue landed on the ground next to my foot and blood dripped from his mouth. I roared loudly and Spike came out of nowhere and started to fight with him.
“Stay away from my girlfriend! She’s mine, and you can’t have her!” He clawed his face and back, making him gush blood and I still stood there still as I suddenly had two guys fighting over me. I’ll admit I kinda liked the idea of it until Auron’s tail hit Spike hard and knocked him out.
“Spike!” I ran up to him but as I was about to try to help him Auron landed in front of me. I tried to go around him and push him away but I couldn’t. “What do you want? Why are you doing this!” I was so worried about Spike that I almost tried to fight Auron but I stopped myself, knowing I’d lose.
“You see, he has something I want and it's getting rather irritable. If I want it I should get it… I am a King Dragon after all.” This was true, I could tell by the spikes he had sticking out of his jaw and that he had running down his head and back. No other dragons have that or the chest plates that help protect them so they aren’t hurt as easily. But just because he's a King Dragon shouldn't mean anything. They aren't true royalty, they’re just a type of dragon.
“Lemme guess… you want me right? Well too bad, I'm already taken so you can forget about it!” I flew away as fast as possible, knowing that he’d follow. When he caught up a little bit I quickly went after Spike and this wasn’t too hard of a task because King Dragons are slower from the extra armor they have. I landed by him and tried to heal him.
He groaned as he slowly came back to consciousness. “What happened?”
“He kissed me and you were trying to kill him but his tail knocked you out. You have to keep fighting… I’m not strong enough and if you don’t stop him he's going to hurt me or try to steal me from you.”
He stood up as soon as he could and went after him. “Stay away from her, she doesn’t like you and I don’t either!”
“You can’t put words in her mouth, she does like me and that's why she kissed me while you were knocked out, sorry again about my tail… it has a mind of its own sometimes.”
“Wait… She kissed you?” His eyes glared at me for a moment and I looked back at him but he wasn’t sure if he should believe him or not. The look in my eyes confused him and he couldn’t be sure.
“Why yes she did, didn’t she confess that to you as well?” He glanced at me and had a devilish smile then looked back at Spike with innocence. “I am truly sorry.”
“Blaze! Did you kiss him or did he kiss you? What happened! You have to tell me the truth or I’m done!”
“I can assure you, I didn’t kiss him and when he kissed me I bit off part of his tongue, that's why his mouth is bloody. Please kill him!” I kissed my wonderful boyfriend and was hoping that he’d kill or at least injure Auron but he didn’t. Instead he started making out with me, in front of Auron. It just made him more mad and Spike just wouldn’t stop. “Please,” I mumbled between kisses, “You have to kill him.”
“Fine.” He gave me one last kiss then went after Auron. He blew red and blue flames at him and hit him with his tail but nothing worked against him. “Damn armor!”
Drown him Spike! I told him telepathically so that Auron couldn’t hear and as I finished saying it Spike went toward the lake and I followed to make sure that Auron would follow.
