The Eggs

I realized a little too late that I had jumped early and I missed my mark. Spike laughed and I jumped into the air and flew quickly after the deer. I was faster than him when I was in the sky so I caught up quick and blew flames all over him. He tried running towards a pond ahead but I scooped him up in my claws as he roasted. Another deer ran past then and I blew flame straight up so Spike would know where to go. There's another. Go get em. I flew there waiting for him and I watched the deer go farther and farther. Better hurry. He wasn’t answering and I couldn’t see him so I went to look for him. I went back the way I came and found him collapsed on the ground. “Spike!” I dropped the deer and landed quick by his side. I nudged him but he wouldn’t move. I started a few trees on fire and called to Ali. Find the burning trees and go towards them. Hurry. You gotta check on Spike. He won't move.  About a minute later I heard the beating of her wings and looked up. She flew over to me and smacked him hard with her tail. I glared at her and growled. “What are you hitting him for?” “I’m checking to see if he just passed out and if I could wake him. He didn’t move so we might have a problem.” She looked worried as she felt around his chest to check for a heartbeat. “His heart feels strong so that's good but I don’t have much to go off of. I can try to heal him but it doesn’t look like there's anything to heal really.” She put her hand against his chest and a small area around her hand started to glow a bit. I didn’t see anything happen but he started to move and groan.  “Spike! Get up Spike please.” I hugged him tight and clung to him. Please be okay. He lifted his head and looked at me.  “I’m alright. I just can’t move much. I can’t remember what happened.” He looked over at Ali and growled. “Who are you?” He got up and stood in front of me in a defensive position like he thought she’d hurt me. “Get away from her! Blaze stand back.”  I growled at him and stood between him and Ali. “Don’t you dare! She just saved you and you know she's saved and helped both of us before! There's no way I’m letting you hurt her!” “Blaze what are you talking about? I’ve never seen her before in my life.” He gave me a weird look then looked back at her and glared. “She looks like someone that would get in my way and hurt my family.” I thought for a second, but he doesn't have any family….  “Spike… What family…?” “You. You're the only family I have left.”  Ali was staring at me like she was scared of him but she had an idea. She raised her hand and sighed.  “Spike you know me. But if you still want me gone or dead I’ll go. Blaze I’m sorry. I knew there would be a chance for side effects. There’s always a chance and I never told either of you about it. He will get his memories back but it may be a while. There are ways of speeding it up but I’m not sure how.” Spike backed down a bit and just sat next to me. “Go back to where you came from. Go to your cave and leave Blaze be.” “Alright. I shall be in my cave if ever you should need me.” She lowered her head and leapt off the ground. As she flew away I suddenly heard her. I will be in your cave. The cave that you have been living in. I know where it is, I've seen you around there before. Bring him by later and don’t mention that I will be there. He might remember me when he gets here again. I hope to see you guys soon. Good luck.  ------------------------------------ Spike and I were walking around for a while as I tried to get him to remember Ali. No matter how much I tried he couldn’t remember her so I gave up and told him we were going to go back to the cave. Surprisingly he flew straight to it and knew exactly where it was. He flew a bit ahead of me and I warned Ali. Look out. He’s ahead of me. He remembers where the cave is but I don’t think he remembers you yet. Be careful. I never got an answer but I knew she heard me because she came outside of the cave and sat in front of the opening.  “Hey Spike!” She looked really excited and smiled at him.  “Her again! No. Come on Blaze we’re leaving.” He started to growl and stopped instantly, he hovered where he was and wasn't going any closer.  “No Spike.” I landed by Ali and gave her a sad look. “I don’t think this will work.” I looked back at Spike and nodded for him to land by us. He growled really loudly and instead of normally landing he just stopped flapping his wings and he fell from the air landing hard on the ground. He snorted and smoke came out of his nose.  “I will not stand for this.” He showed his teeth a lot when he said this and his eyes glared sharply at her.  A single tear ran down my cheek and I stared at the ground. “I’m sorry Ali. I gotta go.... I’ll see you later.” I started walking away until I heard him growl. “Come here! You’re not leaving. Not without me. I’ll stay here with you both if that's what you want but I won't let you leave.”  “Spike I’m not going to force you to stay. But if you want you can.” I knew he would feel bad for hurting me if he didn’t stay so I used that to my advantage. I sat down and stared at him until he licked my face. “I’ll stay. Just be happy.” He smiled at me so I smiled back and couldn’t help but prrum.  “Thank you.” I sat by him and Ali started walking over by us. I glanced at her and she smiled and winked at me. She was coming up behind Spike so he couldn’t see her, just hear her. She started flapping her wings just enough so that she could hover over him. Spike didn’t realize she was above him so he licked my cheek and ignored her. She stopped flapping her wings and fell onto him and cuddled him. He growled loudly and got up quickly trying to drop her but she clung tight. She licked his cheek and instantly I saw his face change. He didn’t look mad anymore and he wasn’t growling anymore either. His scales looked a little red around his face and he leapt out from under her. I got kinda scared because I was afraid that made him like her better but then he ran by me and sat down. He stared at her with shock and confusion. Wide eyed he whispered to me, “Why did Ali kiss me?” He whispered it softly in my ear so she couldn't hear. He looked freaked out so I laughed even though I was kinda mad at her. “Don’t ask me. Ask her.” He looked over at her and quietly tried, “Why did you-” He couldn’t finish the sentence. “Why-” He sighed and stared at a distant mountain. She giggled, “Because I had to. You remember me now don’t you? It’s because I licked you. Don’t ask how it works because I have no idea, it’s something my mother taught me.” She looked at me then and I gave her a sad look. “Sorry I kissed him Blaze. I just wanted to help. I didn't mean to lie before either, when I said I didn't know a way to fix it. I was having a hard time thinking about kissing your boyfriend. I didn't want to but had to.” “It’s fine. At least he remembers now.” I forced a smile and laid down. He flopped on top of me and started to prrum.  “Mine.” He licked me and hugged me tight against him.  I squirmed a bit but I stopped and said, “Alright fine. I’m yours.” I licked him back and he bit at my tongue. “What are you doing? I need that.”  He laughed and got up. “It looked yummy.”  I growled a bit and he just laughed more and bit at me again. This time he actually bit me. I knew he wasn’t trying to and that he was just playing but he got a part of my arm. I guess it’s my fault though. When he was leaning forward I raised my arm to guard my face and instead he got my wrist. He spit out a few scales and I saw his eyes watering. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?” He turned away from me and remained silent for a bit. Finally he said, “I’m so sorry Blaze. I didn’t mean to.” A bit of blood started to run down my arm and he licked it up. “Let me help you. Does it hurt a lot?”  “It’s fine.” He reached out and touched the bite mark carefully and softly.  “Does that hurt?” He was trying to hurt me as little as possible as he put pressure on it to make the blood clot.  “No Spike. It doesn’t hurt. I promise.” I bit my lip and looked away as he put more pressure on it. “Okay maybe a little bit.” I stuttered and he instantly let go. “I’m so sorry.” He growled and got even more mad at himself. “You deserve better than this. I’m not worth the pain and suffering.” “Yes you are, because there is no pain. There is no suffering Spike. I promise.” I kissed him and a tear fell onto the bite marks. “Ow. That stings.” I complained as I looked down to see the marks stop bleeding and start to close. “Oh?” I stared at the spot on my wrist where it was just a few seconds ago a bloody mess. Now there was a bit of dried blood and scars of a few teeth marks that look like they have been there all my life. I looked back at Spike and he looked just as confused as me.  “It healed you.” He stared at the marks and then looked at me.  “Thank you.” I hugged him tight and he clung tighter. “I love you,” he whispered quietly. I thought for a minute and finally whispered back, “I love you too.” I smiled and blushed. “Come on.”  “Where we going?”  “Just through the woods. We left the deer behind, we have to find that one and one for you yet.” I flew away and he followed after me.  “Alright, follow me then.” He smiled and flew ahead of me so I followed him.  After a bit I saw a wolf and an archer. “What about him? I could eat him.” He saw them and landed as I did.  “Okay I guess....” I looked at the wolf and saw a strange shadow on his face but I couldn’t tell where it was coming from, he was in an open field. There's nothing out here to cast a shadow... Out of nowhere I got hit with an arrow and a bit of blood started to drip down my shoulder. I growled and landed in front of him. He stared up and me and looked annoyed.  “I am Kazuki. What are you doing in my woods?” Even though two huge dragons were standing in front of him he stood firm and tall. He didn’t seem afraid at all, like he's been around dragons for a while and trusts them. We just stood there and stared at him. “Answer me beast!” He raised his bow and pointed the arrow towards my nose. “You best watch where you point that.” Spike growled and stepped in front of me.  “Spike calm down. I like him. He’s cute.” I smiled at him and the scowl on his face slowly faded. A strong wind picked up and his long black hair blew into his face. He lowered the bow and set it on the ground as he fixed his hair. Spike started to calm down then and he backed up a bit. Kazuki started walking towards me as he pulled the hood of his sweatshirt down off of his face. He held out his hand so I lowered my head. He touched my chin gently and I saw his bright blue eyes batting around as he looked at my eyes, head, and body.  “You trust me? That’s amazing. Most dragons tend to stay back or attack humans. You’re different.” He smiled at me but I turned away when I heard a wolf howling. I saw the wolf again and now I could see its face better. I could now also tell that it was a female wolf, not a male. “Chesha come here.” He said and I saw the small wolf scamper over. Chesha looked at me and Spike and whimpered a bit. “It’s okay girl.” He pet her head and she licked his hand. I could now see that the shadow on her face was shaped like a dragon and wasn't being casted from an object but it was a part of her. I wondered if it was just her fur or if her flesh underneath held the same design. “Why does she have that shadow on her face?” I was looking it over and trying to understand why it would be there. He sighed and looked at her, “Show them. They can be trusted.”  “Yes sir,” she replied and she started to grow and turn into a dragon. I now understood why the symbol of the dragon was black. She turned into a huge black dragon and the shadow disappeared against the color of her scales. I guess the flesh underneath was black then too I thought. Her head was bowed and she was on both her hands and her feet as if she was still a wolf just bigger. She quickly lifted her head and pointed it straight up as she stretched out her wings as far as they could go. She growled and roared loudly then bent her head back down to a normal height. She had a grumpy sort of look on her face or as if she was concentrating really hard on something. She opened her eyes and bared her teeth at me like a wolf would, just a habit I thought. I was focusing on her teeth and her maintaining low growl to show power, then I noticed her eyes were different than that of her wolf self. Her eyes became a bright blue with white streaks going through them and she was about the same size as me. I looked at Spike and he looked confused, I admit I was too but I was more curious than anything. I then realized how dumb the look on my face must be, I was grinning and smiling brightly. I quickly calmed down and just smiled a little bit.  “Cool.” I stared at her and she blinked and looked down at Kazuki.  She looked up at Spike slowly and growled loudly at him then looked at me and stopped. “I am Shadow. When Chesha changes her form into a dragon it’s me that comes out, not her. You could say that I’m the evil side.” She smirked. So the teeth baring isn't out of habit, then why do it like a wolf if you aren't the same as her, I thought. She looked at Kazuki again. “Do you want your precious pet back, or am I allowed to roam for a bit?” She looked back at Spike and snorted quietly.  “It is up to you for now. Just don’t hurt our new friends.” He smiled at us and put his hand out towards her. She lowered her hand and he climbed onto it after picking up his bow. “Thank you.” She placed him onto the top of her neck by the back of her head. He held on tight to her horns and scales as she tilted her neck carefully. “Do you two want to join us? We are going to fly around for a bit. See what we can find to eat.” As he said this she flicked her tongue out in hunger.  “Yes. A lovely snack break.” She took a step towards Spike with a look of death on her face. Kazuki cleared his throat and grumbled something, she instantly stopped. “Yes sir,” She replied quietly and snorted a bit. Spike looked angry as he walked in front of me and glared at her.  “Don’t even think about eating one of us,” He snapped back after she snorted. He growled a bit and smoke came out of his nose.  “Spike! Stop it! Yes we will come with you guys.” I growled at Spike a bit and looked back at Kazuki and Shadow, “Where do you want to go?”  “That is up to you miss,” He said it as if I was human like him. It confused me but I liked it. I felt equal to him and it seemed nice for a change.  “I don’t mind. Pick a place and we will follow. May I ask you a strange question?” “Yes of course. Go ahead.” He smiled at me so I smiled back. “Could I carry you on my head? It’d be cool to have a human ride on me.” I felt stupid as I asked but he nodded and stood up. I picked him up carefully and placed him on my head. “Comfortable?” “Yes, quite.” I looked up to see him smiling at me and I started to prumm as he scratched my scales. Spike hissed and rattled his griff, I growled back at him.  “Spike stop. He’s not doing anything wrong.” I grimaced at him and he growled back. “Not him. Her.” He turned to look at Shadow as he spoke. I hadn't looked at her until he growled at her. “Look at her. Isn’t she supposed to be listening to you Kazuki? She’s fleeing.” “Shadow!” Kazuki whistled loudly and she flew back next to us quickly and landed hard.  “What do you want human?” She growled loud and stared at him with a deadly look. “I am tired of this. I’m leaving. Why should a dragon listen to a tiny human that knows nothing hmm? There is no reason for this. I was dumb enough to stay this long and I shouldn’t have. Good bye!” She turned her back and her tail hit a rock hard smashing it.  “Woah look at that!” I carefully ran over to the crushed rock debris and picked up a small dragons egg. She looked back to see what I was talking about then snorted and walked away.  “Say goodbye to Chesha. I won't be letting her out any time soon.” She took off and Spike watched as Kazuki and I stared at the egg.  “Don’t you mind that she’s leaving?” Spike looked over at the egg as he talked. “She won’t be back. You know that yes?” “Yes I know. It’s been a long time coming. I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. That’s why I always kept her as a wolf. She was so much more gentle.” He sighed and climbed off of my head carefully. “Can you please set me and the egg down?”  “Yes of course.” I set the egg down first then lifted him off of my head to set him down too. “It’s so pretty. I’m going to keep it.” I smiled brightly and licked the egg. I heard a small peeping noise come from inside the shell and I curled up around it to keep it warm. I showed it a mental image of Spike and Kazuki but left me out of it. “This is going to be your family.” I sent a picture of Ali too and I heard another peep. “That’s your aunt. You will see me for the first time when you hatch. I want it to be special. Spike look around a bit. See if you can find any more. I’m going to go find Ali. Kazuki climb back onto my head and I will take you with to meet Ali. I will bring the egg with. Spike we will be back soo-”  “It’s okay I’m coming with you. I already looked under, behind, and on top of everything around here. I found a few more eggs.” He had three eggs in his hands and I nodded.  “Alright. Let's go.” I picked up the egg and lowered my head so Kazuki could climb up my neck. Once he started scratching my scales I stood up and started to fly towards my cave, I figured Ali would be there still. Spike followed close behind with the other three and when we got close I landed. When I looked at the egg to make sure it was okay I heard more peeping that I couldn’t hear before. The peeping was now a bit shaky and I was afraid I hurt the pip. “Are you alright?” I whispered quietly to the egg and I heard a more confident peep. “It’s okay. We are going by your aunt Ali now.” I started walking towards her and she rushed over as soon as she saw me and Spike carrying eggs. The peeping stopped and I got worried but by the time we got up to Ali it was peeping confidently again. I set the egg down in the sun and sat by it as spike set the others next to it. “Do you want to get down again Kaz?” I cuddled close to the eggs. “Kaz?” He sounded confused but it seemed like he didn’t care. “Yeah Kaz. Short for Kazuki. I hope you don’t mind.” I lowered my head and he jumped off. I licked the eggs and Kazuki touched one gently. “I can’t wait for them to hatch.” The one I had carried was still peeping and now the others started to join in. I looked over at Ali and she sat down by me. “What’s with the eggs? They’re beautiful but whose are they?” She looked over at Spike and then back at me. “They’re not yours-” I cut her off quickly before she could finish, “No. We found them after meeting Kazuki.” He smiled up at her. I blushed a bit at the thought of having eggs with Spike and he was blushing a bit too. “Hello. I’m Kazuki.” Ali looked at me confused. “They found me in the woods and we trust each other. Spike doesn’t like me much though and I seem to have lost my dragon.” He smiled at first but it ended up as a frustrated look. She looked back at him smiling. “Alright well I’m Ali. Glad to meet you.” He looked back at the eggs as the peeping started again.  “Aww they are starting up again.” I licked the egg that was somewhat basic, a light whitish-grey . The others were a light blue, a light purple, and deep jet black. The black was a silky color as it shone in the light. They all sparkled brightly though and I was already in love with them. I showed them all images of us except for me. “These are your family members, Kazuki, Ali, Spike, and then there’s me. I am Blaze. I’m just a small, simple, ordinary dragon. I’m not worth much. But I am here.” I licked the eggs again and started a small fire by them to keep them warm. I sat by them for a bit and listened to them chirp.  When I finally looked up again I saw that Ali was gone, probably back in the cave. Spike and Kazuki were both asleep. Kazuki was asleep against Spike’s arm and they both looked quite comfy considering they didn’t start off the greatest. I looked up and saw that the sun was almost gone, I didn’t realize I got so lost in the eggs. The peeping started to settle down egg by egg until there was only one left. I figured the warmth made them relaxed and sleepy so I let them be. The last one to be awake was the silky black one. When it realized the others were quiet it's peeps started to sound frightened. “It’s alright,” I whispered quietly, “Go to sleep.” I curled up around them and cuddled close. “Goodnight.” I rested my head on my arms and closed my eyes but I heard a noise coming from the cave. I listened with my eyes still shut to see if I’d hear it again but I heard nothing. If it’s important I’ll hear it again, I thought.
