The Skye is on Fire

“Stand still damn it.” She blew another fireball towards me and I again jumped out of the way. I lead her away from the others a bit and kept running and diving out of the way of the fire blasts.

 Ali created a blue-ish glowing shield around her and Spike and they started to fly back by me. They both landed on her back and started ripping small chunks out of her. It didn’t do much damage and she didn’t seem to care. She acted as if she didn’t even feel it but a small puff of smoke came out of her nose each time a chunk was ripped and I saw her wincing. 

I spit poison at her face and she growled at me and blew flames back. I waited till she started breathing fire again and I spit poison in her mouth, hoping it would explode in her mouth like it did the other brothers but it didn’t. Her fire was different. As the poison ate away at her jaw and mouth I jumped on her and attacked her face.

Ali bit at her throat and Spike clawed and spit fire at the back of her neck. They both kept going and she got mad and threw them off. I heard the thuds of them landing hard against a tree that snapped and broke instantly from their weight. I got mad and growled loudly as I bit her jaw and ripped a big chunk out. She snorted fire in my face and I got burned a bit as I tried to jump out of the way. She looked like she was starting to get tired but as I flew back over to her I realized how tired I was getting too. 

Ali dove at her again and this time she went for the legs. Spike started working on a different leg and I figured it would be smart to distract her. As always I was the bait. I jumped onto her back and clawed at her neck ripping off a bunch of scales. When enough scales were off that I could see a lot of bare skin I started clawing more and bit her hard. She made a smoke screen from being so mad at me and she smacked me with her tail. I fell off of her and broke my wing when I landed. 

“Ali help! Can you heal my wing? I can’t fly.” I got up and quickly ran to her after she nodded and I hoped Skye wouldn’t use this to her advantage. Spike jumped up quickly and distracted her by attacking her and breathing fire in her face. She got blinded cause the fire went directly into her eyes and she screamed loudly as she started to shrink back down to our size. She was still bigger than us but not by much.

“Quick!” I screamed as the broken part of my wing finished healing. “We need to get her while she's smaller. We can’t let her grow again!” I lept away from Ali quickly and flew towards Skye.

 I spit poison gobs all over her back while she fought Spike. I figured the poison wouldn’t explode when I hit her with fire cause it didn’t the last time so I jumped onto her back and spit fire everywhere, thinking that I would be safe from explosions. I was wrong. Something was different from last time and I don’t know what but this time it exploded and I flew off of her and landed on my back. I looked around and everything was spinning and blurry. All I could see was green and bluish colored blobs covered with red and one small silver blob covered in orange and blue flame. My vision blurred more and suddenly I saw nothing as I felt my head collapse and fall to the ground.

I woke up in the same spot as I blacked out in but now there was clearly a fire next to me from the smell of smoke and the warmth and crackling sounds. I also felt someone cuddling me which I figured was Spike. I opened one eye and saw the fire and Ali eating what looked to be a deer. I closed my eye again and grunted a bit. “Where? Where’s Skye?” I mumbled as I tried to get up.

“She’s over there.” I opened my eyes to see where she was pointing but I had to raise my head to be able to see her and at the moment I was in no mood to move. “You passed out after your flame exploded on her back. You took a hard hit, you got lucky. She however wasn’t so lucky. She died instantly and Spike and I came over by you and I healed your wounds. We laid down by you and slept to regain strength. Spikes still asleep, wake him if you want. I woke up not too long ago but I was hungry so I left for a bit. Get up and eat, you still look exhausted.” 

I grunted and got up slowly. My legs shook under me and I felt like I was about to collapse. “I thought you said you healed me? I can barely stand.”

“I did heal you. There's not a scratch on you. I heal flesh wounds and scarred tissues but it will still hurt for a while. I need to work on my healing powers. I’m hurting bad too but not nearly as bad. You took more hits than me.”

I grunted again. “I can tell.” I walked over to her carefully and looked at the pile of bones in front of her. “Where’d you find that one? Was there more than one around?” I figured I needed something to eat too.

“Sorry I don’t know. I saw this one and went for it. I didn’t see any more but there might have been deeper in the woods. This guy was wondering out of the woods, that's how I found him.” She shrugged and it looked like she was mad at herself for not bringing any extra back. Just then Spike woke up and poked me with his tail. 

“Huh?” I turned around and saw him next to me. 

“Morning. Are you hurt?” He started looking at every little scratch on me to make sure I was okay.

“Spike I’m fine. Just a little hard to move.” I licked his cheek and started to walk away. “Wanna go hunting with me?”

“Hell yeah! I love a good hunt. Are you able to fly?” He spread his wings and made sure he could first. I did the same and got into the air enough that he got next to me and we flew to the woods. We landed a little outside the forest so any nearby animals wouldn't hear the beating of our wings. As we were walking he wrapped his tail around mine and he stopped me. 

“Whats wrong? Why did we stop?” I was all confused and I didn’t like it. I sat down and he came closer.

“I want to do something quick. Hold still.” He licked my nose and then he pushed his tail against my jaw to make me look in his eyes. “Your so cute when you're confused.” He smiled and pushed his nose against mine. He kissed me gently then started walking again. 

I got up and ran after him. “What was that all about?” He didn’t answer, just looked sad and kept walking. “Spike? You okay?” I stopped him and nudged his jaw with the horn on my nose and he looked at me. 

“Don’t worry about it. I’m fine.” He started walking again and I just sat down and waited for him to come back. He kept walking for a bit then sighed and turned around to look at me. “I’m really fine. Come on, get up. You want to find a deer or not?” He growled a bit but I don’t think I was supposed to hear it. 

“Spike please. Just tell me what's bothering you.” I walked over to him and sat on his tail so he wouldn’t be able to get up and walk away from me. He growled again but this time he wanted me to hear it.

“Get. Off.” He glared at me and I felt like I was only making it worse. I got up and turned away from him and sat down. 

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bother you.” I hung my head and a tear slowly started to run over the scales down my cheek. “I’ll leave you alone.” I got up and started to walk the opposite direction of him but he grabbed my arm and growled again. 

“Come here. Are you okay? I’m sorry I’m such an ass.” He looked really sad and he sat down by me. “Do you really want to know that bad?”

“Yes. Tell me so I can help you.” I sat down too and he sighed but started to tell me. 

“You’re the first girlfriend I’ve really cared about. The only one that matters to me. You make me smile all the time and we are both there for each other when we need someone. We are both overprotective of each other and we are perfect together. When I kissed you, you just didn’t seem happy. You seemed kinda freaked out like you didn’t want me to. I don’t want to do something you're not okay with and then end up losing you. You are all I have left. My family was killed when I was a hatchling and I never really talked to any other dragons. If anything I killed them. You and Ali are the only ones I’ve really gotten to know and care about. She’s like a little sister to me and I feel the need to be protective. I’m very protective of you too, because I love you.” He stared at the ground for a bit and he looked scared. 

“I love you too Spike. I feel the same way about all of that. But why didn’t you tell me about your family before? And why did you start talking to me that first day then. You didn’t seem as shy as you’re making it sound.” 

“I was afraid you’d stay with me just because you feel bad for me. I don’t want to be with someone that’s going to constantly feel bad for me. I can take care of myself. And that first day I had to talk to you. You seemed different than every other dragonelle I’ve ever seen and I had to find out what it was about you that fascinated me. Just. You aren’t going to leave me because of this are you?”

“No why would I? Your still perfect to me. Just because you never told me about your family doesn’t mean I’m going to leave you. And yeah I guess I do feel a little bad for you but that’s not why I’m staying with you. I’m staying with you for the same reason you said you wanted to be with me. Because we love each other.” 

I smiled and kissed his cheek then started walking away. “Come on. I’m still hungry.” My tail wrapped around his arm and I pulled him behind me. I was suddenly all happy and jittery, and I decided to run away from him. I giggled as I disappeared into the woods but then I realized how loud I was being. I heard the scared grunt of a deer and slowly crept towards it, being as quiet as a dragon could be. I saw him running towards a large open meadow. “Dumb deer,” I whispered to myself as I telepathically told him, There’s a deer running through a meadow, if you catch up and go to the other side we can corner him and kill him. He only looks big enough for one of us though. He didn’t reply but I knew he heard me cause I saw him catching up faster behind me. We both crept up on him and when he scared him towards me I lept without thinking.
