CHAPTER 19The next morning, Bannister got up at 6:15 a.m. He needed to keep busy and try to sort out his emotions before seeing Madison. He made a cup of coffee. Just one. His corner suite had two large windows that slanted dramatically inward. The sun was just rising and cast a glow across the gray and purple horizon of the San Gabriel Mountains. He drove to Griffith Park to jog. The last time he’d been there was to run in the Stuntmen’s 10K race, which, instead of beginning with a starter’s pistol, began with a stuntman falling off a thirty-foot tower. He parked at the Los Feliz entrance and decided on a route to the LA Zoo and back.
