Day of ceremony

Mianes POV

I woke up feeling excited and nervous at the same time. I have prayed so much these past few days for clarity on what to do. I barely know him. But somehow I do feel like I know him and there is this pull to him that I can't explain but my mother says it is because of the mate bond I just don't feel it as strongly because I'm not a wolf.

I quickly get dressed and make my way downstairs. Everybody is busy decorating and getting everything together. An amazing smell comes from the kitchen and my stomach makes a funny noise. I make my way to the kitchen and all the chefs greet me friendly. "would you like some breakfast miss" a young friendly-looking redhead girl asks me. She looks about my age. "Please just call me Miane. I would love some breakfast thank you. So what is your name? I ask her. I see the hesitation on her face." My name is Ruby" she says with her cheeks turning almost as red as her hair. "I will make you some breakfast right away. Is there anything specific you want," she asks while walking to the fridge. I can see the two of us being great friends I am sure of it. "You can surprise me Ruby anything will be great." she starts getting busy and my mother makes an appearance. "Hi sweetheart, you're up early." she kisses me on the head as she walks past me to take the seat next to me. "Good morning Luna Leila I am making your favorite breakfast for your daughter, would you like some as well?" Ruby asks my mother. "Morning dear, that would be wonderful no one makes it as you thank you, Ruby."Ruby continues her breakfast-making while my mother and I talk."So mom how come Jeandre is next in line to be Alpha after dad. I mean from stories that I have read through the years which I have thought to be fairytales, it's always the alpha's son who becomes alpha or when one wolf challenges an alpha. I did not see Jeandre here last year so how does it work? I bombard my mother with these questions. She laughs softly and looks at me with her caring eyes. "Oh honey, you still have a lot to learn. See you are right but the books don't know everything." She thanks another omega for the hot cups of coffee which he had placed in front of us and then she continues. "If an alpha has a son or daughter that is a wolf they are legally the next alpha inline. If another wolf challenges an alpha for the alpha position and he wins the fight he legally is the new alpha." she stays quiet for a while and takes small sips of her coffee and then she looks at me with love and stroke her hand over my hair." But in the case where alpha has no child or a child that is not wolf he may choose any other wolf from his pack to be the next alpha." she drinks the last bit of her coffee and hands the cup to the omega who is already waiting with another hot cup of coffee for her."Oh, and honey, Jeandre has been living here his whole life. Not in the packhouse though. His father is your father's beta. They have a house just up the street. Jeandre moved in with us just after your visit last year when your father chose him to be the next alpha. He moved in so that he can learn from your father how to be an alpha." she squeezes my hand and looks up as Ruby comes closer with our breakfast. She made us smoothies and it looks incredible. She and my mother watch as I take a sip and Ruby giggles when she sees the satisfied look on my face."Wow, Ruby! This is delicious." I tell her and I mean it. This girl is talented. She thanks me for my compliment and walks off to continue her work for the day. My mother finishes her breakfast and excuses herself saying she still has a lot to do before the guests arrive.

The rest of the morning went by quickly and I spent most of the morning outside in the sun by the swimming pool. Everyone was so busy the whole day preparing for the festivities of the night and I kind of felt left out because no one wanted my help. I drove down to grandpa's shop and spent the afternoon with him helping him out and indulging in the delicious ice cream. Grandma was helping my mother at the packhouse so I figured grandpa could use the company. He told me about how he met grandma and all their fun stories together. How he had learned that grandma was a witch and how he had to adapt to this new world. He told me how he was shocked when my mother told them that she was mated to a werewolf and that he had to adapt all over again. Grandpa closed the shop early and we left together to go back to the packhouse to get ready for the party.

It is almost five and the party begins at six and we had to get ready for the night. I, my mother, and grandma got dressed together. I saw the other three dresses still hanging on display and that's when I got a great idea. "Hey mom, does Ruby from the kitchen have a mate yet?" silently I hope the answer is no. "No honey she also just turned eighteen, a few days before you arrived actually. Why do you ask?" My smile grows with excitement. "Do you think it will be ok if I let her choose one of these dresses and join the party tonight?" my mother laughs at my excitement. "Oh, honey you're going to be an amazing Luna one day. Of course, it would be ok, I think it would be wonderful to let her choose a dress, she is already going to the party she just chose to work tonight because she loves her work." mom takes out her cellphone and asks for Ruby to come upstairs. A few minutes later she knocks and shyly enters."You called for me Luna" she asks with her cheeks burning red. "Ruby it was Miane who asked you to join us" I look at her and smile. I explain to her what I told my mother. At first, she didn't want to. She is a shy girl and that is why she would rather be in the kitchen where no one could see her. But I convinced her otherwise. She hesitantly walks to the dresses and traces her hand down each of the remaining dresses. We are built the same so I am sure it would fit. Grandma excuses herself and disappears for a short while. When she returns she has a box with her. "Miane, if you don't mind I would love to give this to Ruby." Ruby's cheeks flame up again and she tries to refuse but grandma won't take no for an answer. She takes the box from grandma and opens it to reveal a beautiful emerald green dress and I see Ruby's eyes light up."Wow, thank you Mam I love it." Grandma clicks her tongue. "stop with the formalities child call me aunt Ruth or even grandma just not mam" we all laugh at grandma and we help Ruby get dressed. The dress goes well with her skin tone and red hair and makes her green eyes pop with color. My mother and grandma excuse themselves as they have to go attend to the guests, as the party has already started. It's just after six now and all the unmated wolves and the wolves that found their mates this month will be entering the ball room and introduced at six-thirty. I haven't seen Jeandre since yesterday. My mother tells me it's like at weddings where the bride and groom are not allowed to see each other until the wedding. I'm nervous and I can see Ruby is as well. I squeeze her shoulder and reassure her that all will be fine. I finish doing her hair and we walk out together to where we have to wait until we are called to be introduced to all the other packs. My stomach makes a turn and Ruby grabs my hand and squeezes it. I can't tell who is more nervous. I hope she finds her mate tonight. Although I hope it is someone from our pack because I would love to have her here and be friends with her. The music stops and I know the time has arrived.
