Chapter 1: Cheating
"Sir, we’ve got latest news: Ms. Becker is in A City."
Upon hearing this, a slight frown appeared on the man's face as he sat in his leather office chair.
He nodded and said, "Got it. Send the exact location to my mailbox later. You may leave now."
However, the assistant, who had just reported for duty, remained rooted to the spot, seemingly ignoring the CEO's directive. His expression was conflicted, his lips pressed tightly together.
"Is there something you need to say?" He asked.
After a moment of hesitation, the assistant's voice trembled as he spoke, "Ms. Becker... she hasn't been faring well. Her current condition is quite dire."
With each word, the man's countenance grew darker.
Sensing his disapproval, the assistant fell silent, feeling as though he had erred in speaking up.
An eerie silence enveloped the entire office.
"Book me the next available flight to A City. I need to go there immediately!" the CEO demanded.
"The client is scheduled to arrive in the conference room in ten minutes, and this collaboration is crucial for the Chapman Company."
"All activities are postponed! If there's any delay, you're out of a job!"
He thundered, his anger palpable. The assistant had never seen him so incensed, and beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he hastily exited the office.
A City.
Sophia Becker was notified by the nurse that the balance was insufficient and she could not continue to stay in the hospital if she did not pay.
Called her husband and best friend on the phones were all unanswered, looking at the bank card only had a few dozen dollars left, but she could not care because the body was not yet healed, no choice but to handle early discharge.
She gently opened the door but saw a pair of high heels that did not belong to her own.
In the bedroom, there was a succession of panting sounds, and through the doorway, she saw two bodies folded together.
They were none other than her husband, Lucas Fisher, and her best friend, Taylor Daley.
Her mind went blank, not expecting in any way that the two people closest to her would betray her together.
The voices soon stopped, she braced herself to keep taking deep breaths to calm down, hoping to walk in later to witness the adultery of these two men.
“Lucas, what do you think Sophia would do if she knew we were together behind her back?”
“Don't worry. She trusts me so much, and when the time comes, I'll just coax a few words out of her and this will be over.”
“You're still great. If you didn't find a way to make her break up with Charlotte in the first place, she wouldn't have believed us so quickly.”
“It's the woman's fault for knowing so much that she let her hear what Dad and I were planning. It would have been just as well if she pretended to know nothing, but she tried to tell Sophia all about it.”
“It's a good thing Sophia was so hopelessly stupid that she easily took your word for it.”
Sophia recalled the old days, when she and Charlotte were inseparable best friends, even going to the bathroom in pairs, except when they went home at night.
Until Lucas came along.
She trusted Lucas with all her heart, just as she trusted Charlotte.
So when Charlotte told her that Lucas was approaching her with an agenda, she almost instinctively denied it.
With Lucas' constant brainwashing, she began to turn away from Charlotte and the two gradually stopped seeing each other.
Now hearing him admit in person that he had set it all up, Sophia only hated herself for being gullible enough to trust him, and wrongly blaming someone who was genuinely looking out for her best interests.
“Well, I see that the time is almost up. I'll have to go to the hospital to see her in a little while. If it wasn't for that so-called inheritance, I'd feel sick just looking at her.”
“Then you still got her pregnant? You're lying to me with some nice words.”
“You're even jealous of that? It's just a game, that woman is like a dead fish in bed. Besides, didn't I not let her keep that child? She doesn't deserve to bear my child.”
“That's true. It’s interesting to see that woman still thinks that she caused the miscarriage until now.”
As if a thunderbolt had exploded in her brain, Sophia was completely stunned.
The man she had loved for so many years, who pretended to be grieving in front of her, was actually the murderer of her own child.
She could hardly accept the cruel truth!
All her tears gushed out.
In order not to be discovered, she had to cover her mouth with both hands, trying not to make a single sound.
However, at that moment a hot stream flowed down her thigh, and when she touched it with her hand, it was stained with blood.
Sophia couldn't hold on any longer and collapsed to the ground.
