That one moment

chapter 19

Elles pov. 

I spent the whole weekend going over what happened the night of the dance. I mean they both kissed me. I never knew Brax had feelings for me I always assumed it was a friendship thing but when he kissed me, I felt something. I knew something was developing between us from that night at the park. We share a pain that seems to bring us together. Brax is kind, considerate, good looking, funny. then there Nick. I fell in love with him those feelings don't go over night. Now I know the truth behind our break up it feels like we could have another shot but they way he spoke to me tonight, I don't understand what's changed with him. It's like he expects me to forget everything that happened these last couple of months, I've been threw so much that I can't handle anymore pain from him. When we kissed there was still that same spark, same passion we had before everything happened between us. This is going to be a long weekend. I lay out all my procs and cons for each other I couldn't think of any cons for them and there pros are similar. How will I ever pick. 

Monday comes too soon and to say I'm tired is an understatement. I don't think a slept at all. All this stress and uncertainty is killing me if I pick one I lose the other and I'm not ready to lose wither of them Brax has been my rock since he got here and he really protects me. I only just got Nick back I still love him and being without him killed me. I get to my locker and they both come up to me greeting me. I can see them two being friends isn't ever going to work. Nick's changed, he's turned into someone I don't want to be around, being a d**k to Brax and expecting me to chose him, it feels like he's trying to demand it. Clearly hanging out with Alicia hasn't done anything for him. I can't take him anymore and tell him I pick Brax. I don't regret picking him I just wish I had more time. 

It's been a week since me and Brax have been together, he really is sweet and I love how he is so proud to have me by his side. He makes it no secret that were together. I've avoided Nick this last week. I really didn't want that uncomfortable  conversation not to mention I don't know what kind of Nick I will be dealing with. We head to English, today seems like any other. English goes by just fine until were given assignments I plan on partnering up with Brax but Miss Scott has other ideas and assigns us partners. Out of all the people she partners me with Nick. As soon as I hear our names together I immediately look at him and he's smiling from ear to ear. Oh god this isn't going to end well. 

"It's ok babe. It's only for a couple of weeks." Brax whispers to me. When I hear Brax has been partnered up with Tori, I give Brax a 'Good Luck' look. We both look at her who's also smiling. She can't make it any more obvious that she likes him. He just roles his eyes and outs his arm around me. her smile soon vanishes and she turns away. For the rest of the lesson which is 25 minutes we have to sit with our assigned partners. Brax moves to where Tori is and Nick moves to me. He sits down and smiles at me. "Elle.." he starts but I cut him off. "Let's get one thing straight. We only talk if it involves our assignment." He gives me a weak nod. Miss Scott hands out work sheets. We have to write a story about our partner's based on what we learn about them. We have a week to study each other and a week to write it. Great so I have to spend all my free time with Nick. "So how do you want to do this?" he asks. "How about we spend 3 and a half days focusing on you and then we spend 3 and a half days on me. Then we write up the essay." I tell him firmly. After class is done I get up and go to Miss Scott to find out if I can change partners. 

"Ellie, why don't understand what happened between you and Nick, maybe use this as an opportunity to try and be friends again." She tells me. That was weird, I wonder if Nick put her up to partnering us together. I head out the door to see Brax waiting for me, he's with Tori and Nick. "Everything ok?" Nik asks me and I blank him. Brax walks up to me wrapping his arms around me kissing me. We pull apart and a look of disgust is evident on both Nick and Tori's faces. "So it's the end of the day are we starting this assignment today?" Nick asks. "Why don't we all go to Chucks and get to know each other better over some food?" Tori asks. Nick agrees and Brax's looks at my I shrug my shoulders. We all head off and get in to Nicks car. When I see James a huge smile crosses my face. Since him and my mum got together James has really acted like a dad to me. We talk all the time and even though he's Nick's driver he never takes sides. I just wish my mum had meet him when I was a kid he would of made the best dad ever. I run up and give him a hug. "Elle. How are you." He asks. "I'm good thanks James. How are you I haven't seen you in ages." I tell him. I pull away and he chuckles. "Sorry between this one taking up all my time (He points at nick laughing) and your mum working her way up I don't get time to come round and when I do your always out with Brax." He shakes Brax's hand, I'm glad he isn't mean to him, I know he secretly still wants me and Nick to end up together but maybe something just aren't meant to be. 

We head to chucks and Me and James are just talking on the way there. We get to Chucks finding a booth to sit down on. A waitress comes over and askes if we want anything I just order a strawberry milkshake. "Aren't you going to eat anything?" Tori asks me. I just shake my head no. After the years of abuse I have gotten over my weight and Tori recently joining that group I don't feel comfortable eating in front of her. "Lets just start the assignment" Nick says. I smile at him as a thanks for changing the subject. "So what kind of story are you guys thinking of writing?" I ask. "Mines going to be a beauty and the beast kind of story, you know a nice girl turning into a b***h" Brax says making Tori's face drop. "What's that suppose to mean" She asks. Before Brax answers the waitress brings our drinks and food. Brax offers to share his food but I decline. For what ever reason Nick doesn't eat his food either. "So..." Tori asks getting back to her questions. "It means that you use to be Elle's best friend but you soled your soul to the devil." He tells her bluntly. "Look Ellie not everything is as black and white as you think. There's a grey area." She tells me making roll my eyes. 

"Lets just get on with this essay. Then we can go back to our lives." I tell them all blankly. After an hour or so discussing it. Me and Nick agreed to do a romantic story on each other. Nick drops us off Tori first then Brax, I get out the car. "Don't you want me to take you home" Nick asks. "I love like 5 doors down" I tell him. "Elle. I actually wanted to speak to you can you spare me 10 minutes please." I nod. I walk with Brax to his. "This is going to be a long week" I tell him. He wraps me up into his arms, breathing me in. "We will survive this babe." I smile up at him. he gives me a quick kiss and I walk back to Nick's car. "Is everything ok James?" I ask strapping on my seat belt. He starts driving mumbling on about nothing relevant. We stop outside a restaurant. "What are we doing here?" I ask. "Look Elle, I know your hungry you haven't eaten and you hardly eat at school, I'm just worried about you. Please" Nick begs. I can't resists those beautiful blue eyes. I nod in agreement and we head in for something to eat. 

"So did you and James plan this?" I ask. "Honestly Elle no. I was just as confused as you when he said he wanted to talk to you, when you were saying bye to Brax he told me he wanted me to take you out so we can at least try and be friends." I sit down, after a few minutes a waiter comes over being awfully flirty with me. I can see Nick getting annoyed so I lightly flirt back. We both order and Nick scoots closer to me. "So what do you think?" He asks. "About..?" I question. "Us being friends." I sigh out. "Nick, I don't know. You've changed" He reaches out and takes my hand, I pull my hand away "Lets just do the assignment." He moves his hand back and nods in defeat. We start talking about the assignment. "Does he make you happy?" He asks catching me off guard. "It's for my essay. I'm writing a romance novel about you." He quickly adds. "Yeah he makes me happy" I tell him lowly. I can see the hurt in his face. "Do you ever think about me? Again for the essay." I nod slightly. 

"Yeah I do. Nick, you are my first love. I can't just turn them feelings off" I tell him 

"Then why did you pick him?" 

"Nick, I'm  not getting into this with you right now, can we just talk about something else." 

"Ok, shall we talk about how beautiful you are?" He says making me laugh. 

The rest of the night goes better, there are still some awkward moments specially when Brax rings me and I talk to him for a few minutes. 

After our meals we decide to take a stroll. It's not too far from where I live. We walk side by side making light conversation. Suddenly I fall face first to the floor. What the hell. I turn on my back to see a angry Alicia. "You fat f*****g b***h you have ruined my life." Nick gets in her face shouting profanities at her. She starts crying and He comes and helps me up. "Are you ok Elle." He asks. I just cant stop looking at Alicia. Why is she blaming me for her life. "Nick, why, why couldn't you love me?" She cried out. Wow she is just getting pathetic. "Because my heart belongs to Elle, that isn't going to change cause you black mail me and it's isn't going to stop just because she's in love with Brax." his words hit me like a ton of bricks. Do I love Brax, I mean I do like him but I'm not sure if I can call it love. I don't know how long I was in my trance for but the next thing I know Nicks brushing his hand over my forehead, getting the dirt off me. I can't help but watch him. He is still so handsome. Did I rush my decision when I picked Brax. No Elle. Nick changed you did the right thing, Brax is so caring and understanding Nick just losses it and throws a tantrum. 

We get back to mine and I thank him for dinner and he apologises for Alicia. I some how don't think I've seen the last of her. When Nick leaves I call Brax and talk to him before I go to bed, we talk about my dinner with Nick I know he isn't happy about it but I reassured him nothing happened it was just about the assignment. I fall asleep on the phone to Brax.
