Chapter sixteen - Maybe he is not a ghost

2095 Words
Kevin's POV: Lizzy and I are getting closer. There is one thing that I have noticed. More and more, I realize we are the same person. No matter what I tell her, she does the opposite. I have to say she did a great job. The mysteries about Devan are being solved slowly. It turned out that this man was in our business. I don't know every dealer, but it's still weird that I haven't met him. This made me start thinking. I have no idea who the big boss is. Then, this man shows up. Nothing comes for him. He has erased all of his traces. It's a possibility that Devan is the big boss. Well, I can't confirm it. That's why I sent the address of his house to my friend. There are satellite pictures of it. This is what I call luxury. Lizzy was right. He might have bought this using the drug business. The problem is that I have nothing against him. We can't arrest this man. Also, this will blow out our cover. I can't risk it. There is a chance that he knows my daughter. After all, she visits her friend in his house. I told her not to do anything else. It's not like I expect her to listen to me. We talk about my daughter. She never listens to what I tell her. I don't know what else she wants. She already has a proof. Nothing else is left for her to do. I hope that Devan won't find out about what she is doing. Lizzy keeps telling me information about Devan. She needs to stop before she gets in trouble. I should say that she is clever. She uses gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. This girl will be a good police officer, but this doesn't mean I will let her do it. This can be dangerous. I can't let her mess with this. I have only one daughter. Sadly, I don't think she understands me. We have to sit and talk about this. I would love it if Nia helped me, but I can't tell her the truth. I'm in the abandoned building. I had a few deliveries in the morning. I told my team about the information from Lizzy. Now they have the same question as me. Is it possible that Devan is the big boss? I have suspicions, but I can't prove anything. I need more proof. A man who doesn't exist is dealing with drugs. Lizzy did a great job, but I don't want her to mess with this. He can't find out that she has been giving us information. Otherwise, he might do something to her. She should be careful. - Lizzy might be a lot more useful than we thought. - Dave said - No. She won't mess with this anymore. - I said - You know she won't stop. The girl is curious, just like you. After all, you two are the same blood. - This doesn't matter. I don't want her to get in trouble. - She is old enough to take care of herself. - Nick said - It doesn't matter. She is my daughter. - Ok, daddy. - he said, chuckling - Very funny. - Let's be honest. - John said - What do you mean? - I asked - She won't give up. This is why we can use this for ourselves. - I said something. - Listen to me. I think I have an idea. - What is it? - You will tell her that we need more information for this guy. She has to look for something on her laptop, away from him. That way, he won't get suspicious. - But this is not true. - Lizzy doesn't know it. - She will understand that I have been lying to her. I don't want her to get mad at me. - But you want to keep her safe. Right? - Yes. - Then? - For now, I won't do anything. She will keep going to his house. After all, her friend is there. - Maybe he knows something. - The boy has no clue what is going on. He likes that his dad has money. That's it. - He never got suspicious. - Nick said surprised - I don't think so. Lizzy hasn't told him anything. - Your daughter is a good friend. - Thanks. If she had been good at listening, she would've been perfect. - Don't judge her. She has to look like someone. - Dave said, chuckling - The sad truth. - Be happy. You will be a great teacher. - Of what? - You can teach her how to take care of herself. - I'm not doing this. She will be safe at home. - She won't stay at the same place forever. I didn't say anything. Nick went to buy us lunch. Meanwhile, I went to make another delivery. The address was close to our place. Later, I came back. We don't have many deliveries today. For two hours, we finished everything. This doesn't mean we can go home. After some time, I received a message. Lizzy has sent me some pictures. I opened them and started reading. These were documents. Half a million dollars? That's a lot of money. Hold on. This is Devan's bank account. This means she is in his house. Again. I have told her something about this. It's not like I expected her to listen to me. - Guys, we have some news. - I said and sent the pictures in the group chat - What is this? - Nick asked - Lizzy sent them. - Half a million dollars? - Yes. - Is this Devan's bank account? - Dave asked - It is. - Your daughter is a genius. - I wish she wasn't. - Why not? This might be the big boss. We can catch him. - It's dangerous for her to do it. He might hurt her if he finds out she has been in his office. - I'm sure she won't be so stupid to leave traces. - She has gloves to avoid fingerprints. - See? Lizzy is smart. - I know that. - We understand you are worried, but she can help us. She and everyone else will be saved if we catch him. You have to let her help us. What do you say? - Fine. Hopefully, nothing will happen to her. - Don't worry. We won't leave her alone. - Hold on. There is more. - I said and looked at my phone - What is it? - John asked - Here. I'll send it. - Where did she get that from? - His computer. - She hacked his computer - Dave said - Yes, why? - We need this girl in our team. - She will help from the outside. That's it. - Fine. She is doing a great job. We checked everything that Lizzy sent us. He has to be the big boss. The question is how we can prove it. All this is enough, but it doesn't mean he is the one. I sent everything to my friend. He promised to check it. Maybe he is not a ghost after all. When we finished work, I went home. I found Lizzy waiting for me. She can't come here like that. Someone might see her. I made her go inside and locked the door. - Lizzy, you can't come here like that. - Relax. I was here two minutes ago. - Someone can see you. - Calm down. I came to talk with you. - Did something happen? Are you ok? - Will you listen to me? - Sure. I'm sorry. - I sent something in your email. I found some transactions from three years ago. Everything is from this town. There is no company. - Lizzy. - He has been doing this for years. - Lizzy. - I can check everything on his laptop. - Lizzy, stop! - What? - I don't want you to do this. - Why not? I thought you wanted to find out who the big boss was. - Yes, but not with the price of your life. - What? - If he finds out about you, I might never see you again. - That won't happen. I'm careful. - But you are still a kid. You don't know everything. - As if you do. - No, but I know more than you. Please stop digging into this. - I'm sorry, but no. I want to know what is going on. Adam is there. - Then tell him the truth and make him leave. You too. - I can't. He has to go to jail. This man is dangerous. - This is not your job. Lizzy, listen to me. - No, you have to do it. I'm not giving up. - But you have to. - Just like you did. Let's go. - Where? - You will take me home. - You can walk alone. It's not dark yet. - But I want you to come home for dinner. - Lizzy. - Please. Otherwise, I'm staying here for dinner. - Fine. I'll come. - Thank you. Lizzy and I went to her house. I didn't want to stay much, but she convinced me. The other thing is that I can't say no to Noah. I feel bad for doing it. He treats me well. I don't know why. Yes, I don't come to see Nia that often, but I still do. Someone else would've kicked me out. Maybe I should be happy about this. We talked for the rest of the dinner. Noah made me a sign to go and follow. We can talk here. I have nothing to hide. Well, not much. - I assume you want us to talk. - Yes. What is going on? You don't look much in the mood. Problems at work? - No. Problems with Lizzy. - Why? - Because she doesn't want to listen to what I tell her. When I say something, she does the opposite. - Why are you mad? You are the same. - I'm an adult. She is a kid. - She is eighteen. I don't think that's a kid. - Don't tell me you are on her side. - No, but I understand her. Be happy that she wants to spend so much time with you. - Yes, but she might hurt herself that way. - What do you mean? - I can't say much, but she might do something that she will regret later. - People make mistakes. No one is perfect. - Not when it comes to their life. - What? - Forget it. How are you? Ben grows up every day. - I'm fine. Nia and I went for dinner last night. - Hopefully, I'm not ruining your marriage. - No, it's even the opposite. Since you appeared, we started going out alone often. Lizzy is with you. Ben is with my father or Nia's parents. We have time to spend alone. - Good for you. She deserves it. You are what she needs. - Hey, I know she still loves you. - That is not true. - Are you sure? - Yes. She talks to me only because of Lizzy. - I won't be so sure, but ok. - I have said this before, and I'll say it one more time. You are the one who has to keep this family safe. - But I'm not you. - This doesn't matter. You know what to do. - Kevin. - At least you listen to me. Please. - Ok, ok. I'll try my best. - Thank you. Talk to Lizzy because obviously, she won't listen to me. - I will. I stayed in their house for an hour. Then, I went home. Noah is the only person who can talk with Lizzy. I mean, he is not her parent. She might listen to him. I don't know what else to do with her. She is like me. I have to accept it. I don't want her to get in trouble. Is it so hard for her to understand it? I know why she does it, but this is not her job. I have been trained for this. I won't lie. Thanks to her, we moved faster than in the past three years. This doesn't mean I will let her keep doing this. It's dangerous, and she might get hurt. I hope that this won't happen.
