Chapter fifteen - A new place to call home

2094 Words
Lizzy's POV: Adam's dad is a ghost. I don't know how this is possible. No one knows anything about him. I bet he is hiding something. The question is what it is. I can't accuse him of anything. I need to get a proof. This won't be easy. I have no idea what I'm looking for. All I know is that he won't take care of his son. I mean, not the way his mom does it. I can't believe he plans to move out. My wish is for this to be temporary. I don't want to go to his new house. Technically, his dad owns it. I still don't know how. He must be working. Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not legal. Otherwise, he didn't have to erase his whole life. There are no traces of him. Nothing. I still can't believe this. I knew my friend wouldn't listen to me, so I went to talk with his mom. She found it suspicious but told me not to do anything. She believes that her son will be back. I want that as well, but I can't be sure. Adam wants to be like the rest. My parents aren't that rich, but no one cares. I'm happy with the current situation. I guess he thinks differently. I would like to see how long he can survive there. Nothing can replace the mother's love, even a wealthy father. She will always be better. After all, she knows what to do in every situation. I hope that my friend will change his mind. Adam moved to live with his dad last week. I haven't been to his new house. According to him, everything is better there. I bet he only has a bigger room and weekly allowance. I still don't think it's enough for him to move out. It's not like I can do anything about that. I plan to go and visit his house. It better be when his dad is not at home. I will tell my friend to go and do something while I look in some of the rooms. I believe I will find something. Currently, I'm in school. Adam looks in a better mood. I wonder for how long he can fool himself. When the class finished, I went to my locker. I can talk with him about this, but he won't listen. The last thing I want us to do is to argue. I will use the chance to see him today. Dad told me not to do anything. Of course, I won't listen. Since we'll go after school, I came prepared. I have gloves in my backpack. There is no way I will leave my fingerprints in his house. His dad can find me. - I'm still coming to your new house today. Right? - Of course. I want you to see it. I bet you have never seen anything like this before. - I have seen many things online. - Yes, online. What about real life? - Is this the only thing you like about your dad? - No, but it's one of the main ones. - Does he care about you? I mean, the same way as your mom. - They have some differences. She always asks about my day. I don't need to tell her what I do. Dad doesn't care. - And you like this? - Yes. What I do is none of their business. He doesn't ask about me. I don't ask about him. - Is there something you are not telling me? - Check this out. - he said and showed me his wallet - Hundred dollars? - Yes. I can finally get spoiled. - To understand that you like your dad because he has money. - No. I haven't seen him in so long. I want to get to know him. - No offense, but it doesn't look like that. - Then, like what? - I don't know your dad. I can tell he doesn't care for you like your mom does. - I know. What are you trying to say? Mom is better? - Yes, she is. - If you say so. - For how long have you been with your dad? - A week. - So you already like him more than your mom. - I didn't say that. - This is how it sounded to me. You seem impressed by him. - I think we should stop talking about this. You will understand me when you come home with me after school. - I can't wait for that. - See? - Let's go to class. I don't want to talk about this. - You can't escape from me. - I didn't say I would do this. - But you are running away. - Let's go. - I said and dragged him with me We didn't talk about this until the rest of the school day. It's visible he won't listen to me. When the last class finished, we walked to his dad's house. Adam wasn't kidding when he said it was like a mansion. I still wonder how he paid for it. This costs millions of dollars. There is no way he can afford that only with his company. Also, I don't think there is one. There is nothing registered with his name. Maybe this is one of his lies. He only wants to take Adam with him. This man won't take care of him. - What do you think? - The house is big. - Right? - Your dad's company must be successful. - It is. Come in. - This is luxury. - Yes. Some things don't go well with others. - The interior design is not the best. - Come in. I can make you something to eat. The fridge is full of food. - Does he live alone? - I think so. Why? - Because I wonder what he will do with so many rooms. - I don't know. It's not like I can see all of them. - What do you mean? - I'm not allowed in the other rooms. If I want to stay here, I can be only in my room, the living room, and the kitchen. Of course, the backyard as well. - Why? You won't do anything. - I have no idea. I don't ask. It's more than enough that he let me stay here. - I see. So this is your new home. - Yes. What do you think? - It's good. Let's say that it's too big for me. I'm used to my house. - Don't worry. You can come wherever you want. Well, if I'm here. - Of course. I won't come here without you. - What do you want to eat? - The options are a lot. Make me something from these three things. - No problem. - Which of these rooms is yours? I want to use the bathroom. - When you go upstairs, the one on the left. - With the black door? - Yes. - Thanks. I went to his room and checked around. Nothing was interesting. I made sure that he won't see me. Then I went to the next room. It was locked. The one next to it as well. I carefully went downstairs. Before we left school, I put the gloves in my pocket. Now, they are in my hands. I put them on and started looking. I opened the door. Bingo. Nothing looked suspicious. I opened a drawer and was left speechless. It was full of white pills. Now I know how he bought the house. The other drawers were filled with drugs as well. I took pictures and left the room. - My meal is ready. - Adam said - Thank you. It looks delicious. - I'm trying my best. Do you want us to watch something? - Why not? - Dad has Netflix and every single platform you can imagine. - I don't understand rich people. They have so many things they don't use. - Don't talk like that. I will use it. - Except for you. - I don't know. I want to enjoy the time while I'm here. - Why? I thought you planned to stay here for a longer time. - I'll see. I feel good here, but my dad might not want me for that long. - You can talk with him. After all, he is your dad. - This doesn't mean anything. The house is his. He can kick me out at any moment. - Hopefully, he won't do it. - Me too. I like being here. - The house might be too big for me, but I like it. This doesn't mean I will live in one. - It's your choice. I will use every privilege here. - I will be surprised if you don't do it. - To change the topic. What do you want us to watch? - Whatever you can offer me. I don't know many tv shows and movies. - It's not like I do. Random pick. This one. - The day we met. What is that? - I have no idea. - If it's blooming love, I won't watch it. - Random pick number two. This one. Island murders. - This sounds better. Play it. I stayed with Adam for an hour. This was a show. I called my dad to check where he was. He called me when he was at home. I went to buy us dinner. Later, I went to his house. I could've texted him about what I found, but I prefer to talk to him in person. I want to know what he will do. I knocked on the door, and he let me in. I told him to bring plates. He looks hungry. I wonder if he has eaten today. After some time, he looked at me. - You don't need to buy something every time you come here. - I know. - Is there a problem? - I need your help. - With what? - I did it. - You did what? No. No, no. Why? - Because I was sure he was hiding something. - Lizzy. - Listen. I have to tell you something. Technically, to show you. - What is it? - Look at this. That's in one of his rooms. - I said and showed him my phone - What? These are. - Drugs. I bet he has much more of them. This is how he bought the house. I'm sure. - I think you should stay away from this man and his house. - But Adam is there. I'm sure he has no idea. - I don't think so. - But I am. His dad forbade him to go to any of his rooms. He can stay only in his room, the kitchen, and the living room. - I see. He is hiding his business. - Adam only cares about the luxury. He has never had this before. - It's normal. Every kid dreams about this, but not many have it. - I don't want it. - Because you have everything you need. - True. - Can you send me these pictures? - Sure. I'll send you the address of the house. Someone can check it out. - Thanks. - I guess we have a clue. - Fine. Thank you, detective. Now, you will stay away from this. - Why? - Because I said so. I'm your dad. You have to listen to me. - The way you listen to my mom. - She is not my parent. Also, I'm an adult. - Yeah, yeah. It's always the same excuse. - No, it's not. - Now you're talking like me. - I won't say anything. I stayed with my dad for the rest of the night. Later, he took me home. I wanted to go alone, but he didn't let me. I think Adam's dad might be more interesting than we thought. I found out his secret. The question is if it was the only one. No one has seen this man before, and now it turns out he is dealing with drugs. What a lovely man. For now, I won't say anything to Adam. There is a chance that he won't believe me. Also, I can't tell him I have been in his dad's room. The less he knows, the better. I don't know if I can find someone thing else about me. I hope that I can get some documents about his business.
