Chapter twenty-five - Interrogation and honesty

2092 Words
Lizzy's POV: Dad's boss wants to talk with me. I have the feeling this won't end well for me. I'm afraid he has found the weapon I used. I had to do it. These men would've killed me. There is something called defense. They haven't done anything to me because they didn't see me. The problem will be if he tells my dad. This has to be a secret. Otherwise, he will get mad at me. If my mom hears about that, I will be grounded. It's not like I care. I'm old enough to know what I'm doing. That's why I won't tell anyone where I bought the arrows. I promised the man I wouldn't say anything. I will keep my word. There is a chance that the police don't know about this. Adam told me they wanted to talk with him as well. He promised not to say anything about me. I appreciate it, but we have to be honest. I will say everything. Hiding is not an option. Also, I know they have a way to find the truth. I wonder if I will go to jail for this. That is the last thing I want to happen. After all, I have to graduate high school. It's better if no one knows about this, but it was on the news. Journalists always mess with people's lives. I know it's part of their job, but it's getting annoying. Mom is still mad at me, so I should talk to her. I hope that we can sort things out. The day finally came home. I have to go and talk with the police. That is the last thing I want to do, but I have no choice. It will be a long day. I'm sure my dad won't be interrogating me. After all, he is my dad. We are related. I'm trying not to be worried, but it's impossible. Adam told me they have talked with him yesterday. He keeps coming home because I still haven't bought a new phone. I don't have the money for that. Mom won't do it for me after everything that happened. I woke up and went to get ready for the day. I haven't told my mom and Noah anything. It's better if they don't know. When I was ready, I went for breakfast. Ben was already there. I hugged him and sat next to him. He smiled and continued eating. I will do anything to keep him safe. Anything. Dad told me when the interrogation would be. I told him not to come. I want to do this alone. After breakfast, I walked out. I was thinking about this the whole walk. Soon, I arrived and went to the room. Here it comes. - Hello, Lizzy. - Hey. - I won't take much of your time. I only need a few answers from you. - Sure. - I want to know what happened. - Ok. I went there to save my dad. I had no idea where he was, but I thought he might be at the place where I took a video of Devan. - What happened when you arrived? - I tried to hide so no one could see me. That didn't work. Two of his men saw me, and one of them tied me. - Did you do something before that? - What do you mean? - Both of us know what I mean. - I don't. - Lizzy. We found this on the ground. - he said and showed me a zip lock bag - What is this? - The same thing that you have in your backpack. Do you want to explain? - Do I have a choice? - No. - Can you bring me water? It's a long story. - Sure. I have prepared some for you. - Thanks. Adam told me he has been here. - Yes, but he didn't tell us anything. - Because I made him promise that he won't tell anyone. He is a good friend. - Lizzy, what happened? - Since you didn't help me, I decided to do it. Well, I couldn't go there empty-handed. He will finish me. - And? - And I went to one store. I knew what I wanted. It took me some time to convince the seller to give me what I needed. - You bought a weapon underage? - Yes. - From where? - I can't tell you. - Lizzy. - I'm sorry, but I promised the person I wouldn't say anything. - You have to tell me. - No. Let's move on. - Lizzy, you have to be honest. - I am, except for that. Unlike some people, I help others and keep my word. - Really? For how long will you do it? - Until you realize what you did. - Fair enough. There is no way I will trade this man. It took me so long to convince him to sell me this. Also, I don't want him to lose his business. No matter what happens, I won't say anything about that. At least I was right. They found out about the arrows. I will be surprised if they haven't. It would be good if my parents didn't know about this. Otherwise, I don't want to think about what will happen to me. Being grounded is the best thing. Mom is already mad at me. Things can't get worse. - Let's move on. What did you do later? - I asked my friend for help. He was still at his dad's house. I told him to find me some drugs. Not for personal use. - Then? - I dissolved one pill in each one with some water. - And? - I used them. I didn't tell Adam anything else. I saw five of Devan's men and shot at them. - It's interesting that you say it. Five men were found dead in the building where you were. - I know. I killed five people. - Why do you think like that? - I know, ok? - But you aren't right. - What? - They died because of the smoke in the building. - Really? I didn't kill them. - No, you didn't. Won't you say something? - I don't know what to say. Does this mean I won't go to jail? - What? Lizzy, I only wanted to know what happened and why you used the arrows. - Please don't try to find out from where I bought them. - I can close my eyes for this if you never do it again. - I don't think it will be needed. I did your job already. - Look. I apologized to your dad. - It's too late. With apology, you can't go back in time to fix everything. - For how long will you be mad at me? - For as long as needed. - You can go. Your parents are waiting for you. - What? They are here. - Yes. Both of them. - Why would you do that? - Because I had to. - I hate you. - I said and left I walked out of my room and saw my parents. I didn't say anything and went home. Ben was watching one of his shows with Noah. I walked to my room and laid on the bed. I know they will be mad at me. This is why I'm home. I didn't want to hear what they would say. Soon, I heard a knock on the door. It was my parents. I planned to have lunch alone, but this has to wait. - Say it. - To say what? - my dad asked - That you are mad at me. Your daughter is a criminal. - Lizzy, you are not a criminal. - Are you sure? - I agree with your dad. We talked on the way here. - I know I'm grounded. - I didn't say that. - So? You can take my laptop because I don't have a phone. - Yes, about that. - my dad said and gave me a box - You got me a new one. Why? - Because I needed one. I'm sure you won't deny it as well. - That is the newest one. - You have to keep up with the trends. - Thanks, but I can't accept it. - Why not? - Because I don't deserve it. I messed up. Again. Lately, this is all I do. - I'm not happy to hear what you did, but I can't keep you away from your dad. No matter that I tried it. - my mom said - What will happen now? Devan is in jail. Is the business over? - I think so. His house will be given away. - To who? - You will find out soon. Let's say that some people got lucky. - Mom, are you still mad at me? - I have to be, but no. - Really? - Yes. You and your dad are the same. I should accept this, but you should promise you won't do this again. - I don't think there will be a next time. - Even if there is, you won't be part of this. - my dad said - What? - I'm kidding. - Very funny. - Do you want a hug? - Yes. - What about me? - my mom asked, pretending to be offended - I will give one to both of you. My parents and I talked until dinner time. Later, we went downstairs. Mom invited Adam and his mom. He looked so happy. I believe something has happened. I offered to help my mom with dinner, but she denied it. I went to check on Ben. I need to spend more time with him. Lately, I have been ignoring him. I had too many things in my head. - Dinner is ready. - my mom said - It's delicious. - Adam said - You are hungry. - This body doesn't shape by itself. - What body? All I see is a meatball. - Very funny. - You are in a good mood. Won't you tell me what happened? - We are rich. - What? How? - Since Devan is in jail, his house is ours. We can move there or sell it. Also, all his money belongs to me. He and my mom are divorced, but I'm still his son. It's called inheritance. - You finally got what you wanted. - Yes. I'm so happy. - Will you move back to his house? - No way. We'll sell it. I'll say bad memories. - At least you got your senses back. - This is, thanks to you. I'm sorry for not listening to you. - It's ok. What about you? Are you happy? - I asked, looking at his mom - Yes, I am. Something positive came out of all this mess. - Look. I'm sorry that I dragged Adam into this. - He did it on his own. If that was needed for him to open his eyes, I don't mind. - Don't worry, mom. I'm not leaving you again, especially now. - Adam said, and I hit him - Lizzy. - my mom said - He deserves it. - Can we go out tomorrow? - Ben asked - Sure. Where do you want us to go? - What about me? - Adam asked - I'm sorry. It's Ben and me time. I go out with you too often. - What? - He can come. Please. Take him with us. - Fine, but you will stay with me. - Lizzy, Ben is not a little kid. - my mom said - I didn't ask for your opinion. - Excuse me. - I'm sorry. - You better be. Adam and his mom stayed with us until midnight. Dad and Noah went to talk. I'm still surprised by their great friendship. If it's someone else, they will say it's impossible. I'm glad that they are friends. After all, I started spending much time with my dad. This reminds me that I owe this to Noah. He took care of me for a long time. I mean, he deserves some attention from me. We can go out and do something together. I'll let him decide. I think I know what I want to do after I graduate. No one will be happy, but I want to try. I hope my parents won't get mad at me because of this.
