Prologue
Her heart beat as hard as her wings flapped. Not knowing where she was going all she could do was go. Her father’s voice the reason for her tears running down her cheeks. What was she to do she was so little. “Run Avery, fly as far as your wings will take you.” That was the last thing she heard from her father as she did as he told her. A child no older then 3 and she was out flying. Where she really didn’t know all she could do was fly. She was following a feeling. One she knew not off. All she knew is it was a feeling of home. She had been flying most of the night and she prayed she could hold out longer but knew that was a fat chance. Her tired little wings, though she used them all day every day since she got them, where now shaking from fatigue. Not only where they tried so was she. The sun rising signified the night was almost over. Not sure what she should do she just kept going. She was told to go, and to keep going. She didn’t know when to stop or even if she could but she had to. Her father ordered her to and she would never disobey her father. She was 3 but knew her father’s orders had to be followed. Once the sun came up and over the horizon she smiled at the beautiful sight. It reminded her of her mother. Her beauty was rare among there kingdom and she prayed she would be just like her. Her father always told her she would be even more beautiful then her mother. She didn’t think so. She wished her mother was here. She would know what to do but a battle took her a year ago. She saved her children in the battle causing her father’s heart to break. She had a brother but didn’t know him to well. She remember his face but since there mothers death he had not been around. It was a faint picture but one she held so close. She was only 1 and a half or 2 she couldn’t remember well but it was the last time she had saw him. Only a few years older then her he was her favorite. There mothers pride and joy and she treated him the same. She would never cry or worry about anything when he was around. She wished he was there too. As if on que the feeling she had brightened up when she heard a voice. It had to be late morning by now as she flew over a farm house. She looked down to see a young boy playing with an animal. She wished she could be there to play. As if on que her wings gave out and she came crashing to the tree line. The trees tried to catch her as best they could but with her so small and at the ledge most of them just scrapped her up instead of helping. She hit the ground with a big thud and just laid there crying. “Hello,” The young boy gently spoke. She remembered his voice from when she wished to play. The animal he was playing with now nosing her. She went to move to pet it but cringed in pain. “Don’t move. Father is almost here.” “Lad, what have yeah got there.” An older voice spoke from a distance. She was worried now, as she tried to rise. She hurt so bad and her body was so tired she just couldn’t do anything. “Don’t move, you may hurt yourself even more.” The young boy spoke as he placed a hand on her shoulder. Her back was to him so she couldn’t see his face but his hand was so warm and comforting. She relaxed under it and allowed the puppy to lay beside her. “Dear lord,” The father now spoke as he was finally close enough to see what it was. “A child.” “She fell out of the sky father.” The boy spoke turning to him. His father looked at him a little puzzled but with a breath her knew what he meant. “Does anything hurt.” The father spoke as he kneeled down and gently touched her shoulder. “Everything.” She cried in fear and pain. So much hitting her at once she was so confused. “Well go on and pick her up lad.” His father spoke as he helped show him how to. “We should get her over to the doc.” “Don’t worry your safe with us.” He spoke with a big smile. He knew who this was and there was no way she would not be safe. “Father it’s her.” “Who is it son?” His father asked looking at him as they both rose. He looked between his son and the little girl in his arms. “Dad it’s Avery. My baby sister.” He spoke all happy as he held her closer walking towards the farm. His father stopped as his heart just about broke. This was his niece, her only daughter. Tears sprang to his eyes as he saw her in that little angel and a smile lite his face. “Don’t you worry brother, she entrusted them to me for protection and that is what I will give.” He spoke looking to the clouds. He knew behind them was a kingdom many did not know existed. He did for his sister told him about it. ‘My kingdoms future lies in these two.’ There mother spoke the day before she was taken from them all. ‘He is only one.’ He stupidly said. ‘I hope the other will not come alone.’ Her voice so weak and sad. ‘if she has that means our kingdom has fallen.’ With that said she took off never to be seen again. He got work a few weeks later that she died in a battle protecting her daughter. His heart broke. His baby sister was his world and he wanted nothing but the best for her. Now all that was left of her where these two little Angel’s. And he would be found dead before he let anything happen to them. “Hurry father, we need to get her there and back before we are late for supper. You know how mama gets.” The boy called from beside the truck. He smiled and started walking again. “Alex run in and grab my keys. Lay her on the seat I will be right there.” He spoke with a smile.
