I woke up to argument. Wasn’t to sure from where but I was laying on something comfy and warm. I opened my eyes to see it was my room. The argument was happening outside my door. I heard the whip and began to panic. I pulled the blanket over my eyes. My door opened before it was slammed shut. I could hear the clicking of the lock and the stomping of feet. My blanket was ripped off me and my mothers laugh echoed from corner to corner. “You thought you could get away from me.” Mother cried as I felt the whip come down on my back. I screamed as I closed my eyes tight. “Avery, sis wake up.” Someone cried shaking me. I opened my eyes very startled. Jessica was very worried as she looked at me. I just wrapped my arms around her trying to calm down. “Its okay little sis. Your safe.” “Avery,” Alex gentle spoke racing to me. He grabbed me from Jessica and held me tight. “It was a bad dream.” I finally spoke letting him go. “Mom will never touch you again.” He spoke gently as he sat down beside me. I snuggled into him causing Jessica to smile. “Your wings are gone.” I gently spoke looking between them. “We put them away to keep them safe. Don’t want the whole world to see them.” Jessica smiled. “It does bother us a bit but we get use to it. When we get where we are going we won’t have to worry about ever putting them away.” “Where are we going?” I asked gently. “There is so much I want to tell you but I cant right now.” He spoke upset. “Avery you need to just save your strength. You are weakening day in and day out on us.” “I’m okay.” I spoke yawning. He looked at me concerned. “Avery, you should have been home years ago. This wound isn’t healing because you are to far away. You my dear sis are special. That specialty comes with a lot of rules.” Jessica spoke gently as she looked at me. “This wound won’t heal till you are back home.” “I’ll make it. Don’t worry. I have my brother here. That’s all I need.” I told her with a smile. She smiled at me as well. It was true, I felt so strong when he was with me. I yawned again. “We should keep going.” Alex spoke trying to rise. Jessica sighed but nodded. I grabbed his arm and looked at him. “Have you slept?” I asked gently looking up at him. He just looked at me before looking at Jessica. “you both will rest before we leave. We are under shelter here.” “No Avery we don’t have time.” Jessica said gently. I wiggled out of my brother’s grasp and slowly rose. “Now you both sleep. I have had more then enough of it.” I told them with a smile. They both looked at me worried but nodded. They snuggled up with each other before they fell asleep. I knew they had to be exhausted. I was not a light thing. I looked around the cave and smiled. It was peaceful and cool. In the summer heat who wouldn’t want to be here. I smiled as I slowly stepped to the entrance of the cave. I didn’t venture out I just stood there. Hidden from view if anyone came further in. ‘Good day young lady.’ A Robin chirped as she pecked at a worm. “Good day young Robin.” I spoke back very gentle. It was nice to see I could still speak with the animals if I wanted to. Something I didn’t do often, only when an animal looked sick. ‘I must fly but stay safe.’ It chirped before taking off. I just smiled as I watched her fly away. I looked back at the too sleeping before I stepped out into the sun. I closed my eyes soaking it in for the first time in a while. “Hello young lady.” A man called from a boat down by the lake. I panicked as I looked his way. He waved happily causing me to do the same. Before I stepped away from the ledge. I sat on a rock just away from his sight. If he came up and over to inspect I wanted to make sure he would not find my siblings. This was an area where things felt off. It was not home where everyone knew us. The sun slowly set as I find myself waking up again. I cant believe I fell asleep. I quickly rose causing my head to spin a bit but it soon disappeared. ‘I hope all is well.’ A furry creature spoke from beside me. Her head popped up and looked at me. It was a little Bob cat. She was so fluffy and cute. ‘I saw you asleep and I could help but join you for a nap.’ “Thank you.” I smiled leaning in and kissing the top of here head. “ I must go I was suppose to watch my siblings.” ‘They are safe. I have been watching the cave.’ She spoke gently. I smiled as I got to my feet. It was difficult and I still felt very tired but I had to push through. I wasn’t going to let it take over me. I have worked through so much this was nothing. “I have nothing to give you.” I spoke gently think about what I could have. ‘You have blessed me with a kiss. I could not ask for anything more.’ The little bob cat spoke as she got up and began to walk away. I watched her go before I walked back to my brother. Both of them where waking up. I watched them look at each other and kiss. “I told you to sleep not kiss each other.” I spoke up with a chuckle causing them both to blush. “Alright let’s go.” Alex said rising. Jessica chuckled gently as she grabbed the bags and walked over. Alex just lifted me without a word. I laughed gently at the sudden movement. “We don’t stop till morning now.” “Only if you can hold me that long. If you cant we stop sooner. I can sleep in your arms you cant sleep while holding me.” I told him gently as I snuggled into his chest. He just smiled as they walked out of the cave and looked around. It took a moment but we soon where flying once again. This was definitely the way to travel. The wind in your face and the freshness of the air. “You should rest.” Alex chuckled as he looked at me. “I rest to much.” I spoke even though I was tired again. He just smiled at me. “Could you flip me so I am flake flying?” “That I can do.” He smiled as he gently flipped me. His arms crossed over my chest holding me tight. My back could feel his chest but it wasn’t applying to much pressure. I began to look around. It was dark so I couldn’t see much. The lights shown beautifully though from all the cities. Jessica flew underneath us holding onto the luggage. She turned when she noticed I was watching. “What do you think?” She called up to me. “I cant see much right now but what I do see is lovely.” I called back to her. She smiled before correcting herself. I watched her beautiful wings flap for a while before I fell asleep again. I came to as the sun was starting to rise. I was in his arms again as we began to fly over a city. He noticed I was awake and quickly flipped me. I gently giggled at this as I was happy to finally see everything the sky had to offer the birds. The mountain tops, the houses and people. It was unique to see it this way. “Beautiful isn’t it.” He whispered gently to me. I nodded carefully. I didn’t want to bash my head into his. The pain spiked up in my back but I ignored it. I didn’t want to leave this sight. “When do we stop?” I asked gently. “We don’t,” he told me. “We are close to the door. We should be there after half a day of flying Jessica things. She was young when she came but she remembers it being close by here.” “Please don’t push yourself. I’m sure we can wait another day.” I told him with a smile looking up at him. He flipped me back into his arms. “No Avery you cant wait another day.” He spoke as tears began to fall. “Your back is festering up and your becoming weaker. The littlest of things are causing you to fall asleep. We thought we darn near lost you last night Avery. You stopped breathing for a while.” “I am okay I promise.” I gently spoke as my back spiked a bit again. This had to be because we are getting close to the door. It’s probably because the wound is reopening to heal it. I wish I could just heal it but that’s not how it works. I can heal others but i cant heal myself. Stupidest thing in the world but my gifts are precious to me and I have always wanted to use them on others then myself so it really didn’t mater. This was one of those times I wish I could heal it so my brother didn’t have to worry about me. “I wish that was true.” He cried holding my even tighter like I was going to slip through his arms. I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck holding him tight. “We are almost there.” I told him gently. I mean I was right by his ear. Didn’t want to yell it to him. “Alex over here.” Jessica spoke diving left. I caught her wings in the corner of my eyes. Alex moved that way and followed close. They touched down and instantly brought there wings in. Jessica raced over and forced Alex to lay me on my stomach. She wanted to change the bandages and once I was flipped Alex hissed. They must have leaked through or something. They had my shirt off and bandages on in no time flat. She was carefully smearing some ointment on before she began to wrap when a rustling caught our ear. Alex jumped into protective mode as he stood between us. Jessica kept wrapping but as soon as she had finished she grabbed me a shirt and helped me put it on. “Come we need to get out of here.” Jessica spoke as she scooped me up. She jumped into the air with me. Our luggage floated close by. Alex took a little longer to get off the ground but when he did he came over. “I got her. If something is following us you would be the better one to fight it.” “Give me your sword to then.” He spoke gently. She nodded as she pulled it out with magic or something. He grabbed it from behind her and flew a short distance away. I was worried now that something was really wrong but all she did was smile when she looked at me. Other then that her face was focused as she looked where she was flying. My back pain spiking again causing me to hiss and her to look at me concerned. The clanking of sword got us both worried now as she rotated so we could see what was going on behind us. I was so scared when I saw my brother clanking swords with another. Jessica turned us forward and started flying faster. “We have to help him.” I spoke to her. She shook her head as she flapped harder. The further away we went the more pain I was in. I needed my brother. With tears running down my face I looked at her. “Please Jessica I need him.” “He will be fine. I promise. You are not.” She spoke worried. I couldn’t tell if the worry was for me or him. I know stupid thing to think of, if it wasn’t for me she would be back with him. I had to do something but knew it was impossible as another wave of pain ripped threw me. I closed my eyes and held the pain as best I can causing Jessica to shake me gently. “Hold on sis your almost home.” She spoke gently as I felt her descend. “Home is with my brother.” I cried to her as I tried to look for him. He was no where to be seen. The clanking of swords could not be heard as tears began to fall. “We need to go back for him.” “We need to keep going Avery, we need to get you home.” She spoke as gently as she could. She was trying to calm me and herself. I didn’t want to go anywhere, not without Alex. He was away from me for to long and now I needed him. I felt the wind come to a stop as we touched down. I made my move as I wiggled out of her grasp causing us both to hit the ground. I was on my feet faster then her which was a bit of a shock. The pain spiking hard in my back but I didn’t stop. I raced back the way my brother was. “Avery,” Jessica cried after me. I didn’t stop I just kept going. My head to the air looking for him as my feet kept running. This was a bad idea. I ran right off a cliff causing Jessica to scream. I looked at what I had done and began to panic. I had to figure something out. I had to save my brother. “Avery Breath please.” Alex spoke as he scooped me up and angled us away from the wall. I didn’t realise I was hyperventilating. I held myself close to him as he wrapped his arms around me. “Alex.” I cried into his shoulder as I wouldn’t let him go. I feared this was just a dream and I was going to come to my end. “Your okay Avery. I got you.” He gently whispered to me. I think all went blank as I didn’t feel or see anything. This was it for me. This was the end of my life. I hit the rock bottom and perished. I mean I went peacefully as I didn’t feel pain and I got to hold my brother one last time.
