Mia was furious. Earlier today, she'd been so damn ready to welcome her new employer and his Grand father with her biggest smile, only to come out the back porch and over hear Cole Anderson refer to her as "what", like she was some old piece of dingy furniture. She had been so angry that for a moment there, she was afraid that she would start blubbering.
When she turned around to face Cole, she had been one hundred percent ready to give him a piece of her mind. But then she came face to face with him and her control all but slipped. He looked like some handsome Greek god that had fallen from the sun and he exuded a healthy male dose of testosterone, the air around him cackling with barely restrained energy.
His perfectly sculpted body and well muscled forearms were so obvious underneath his expensive leather jacket. A wrestler's body, she thought, full of well defined, tight muscles every where. From her position behind him earlier, she had barely restrained her eyes from roving all over him, her mouth wide open_once again. He was built like a power house and exuded a disgusting, all male s*x appeal that an average woman could not resist.
Man, he was nothing like her ex boyfriends. None of them even held a candle to his raw predator aura. Mia couldn't deny that there was something dangerous about Cole Anderson. The air around him was so tense, like he was hiding something. He was a wrestler of course, she thought, he should be used to expecting the worse. Her ever wandering mind flew back to his eyes. He had serious blue eyes, framed by impossibly long, thick eyelashes.
When he'd been sizing her up, taking her in earlier, his eyes had turned a dark , smoky blue. Then he'd dismissed her abruptly, like again, she was some old piece of furniture. Well, she won't let him get to her, she couldn't. A slight slip in her cover could pose very serious problems for her and her sister and she couldn't let that happen.
When Mia was angry, she ate. Right now, she was about to finish a big bowl of ice cream. She had not remembered to prepare dinner and also hadn't noticed that Cole's Grand dad was standing directly in front of her.
"Hey miss" he said, looking at her warmly "don't you let what my arrogant Grand son said get to you. Put it right outta your mind. I'm sure he didn't mean it. He's just tired. it has been a very long six months for him."
Mia smiled
"It's okay, Sir. Really, it is."
Grand pa Zach patted Mia's head affectionately. He liked her. She was not like those take, cheesy models his Grand son had dated in the past and he'd disliked every last one of them, with their fake lashes and baby voices. Mia was very much real and he would love to watch her challenge his hard headed, stubborn, strong-as-nails Grand son.
"Don't call me sir, miss. Why don't you call me Zach. Is that okay?"
Mia only nodded, overwhelmed by his kind gestures.
"So, Mia, are we having ice cream for dinner?"
Mia started,
"Oh, s**t! Right, dinner."
She couldn't believe that she'd been so upset and had even forgotten to get dinner started.
"It's okay" Zach reassured her, "ice cream's absolutely fine for me, never was really big on listening to the doctors anyway. I don't know 'bout Cole though. Gotta tell ya, he's gonna be mighty pissed."
Pissed. All the impressions Cole had of her so far had made him pissed. Mia ran her fingers through her hair in avid frustration. What kind of dinner could one get prepared under five minutes.
"Don't you worry Mia, I'll help you with dinner. What's cookin'?"
"Um...lasagna, I think. I hope Rose left something in the fridge." Mia said, rattling labelled containers inside the mighty fridge. Finally, she caught sight of what she was looking for. She breathed a sigh of relief.
"yes, lasagna! Now Mr Anderson won't be mad." Mia have Cole's Grand dad a wink.
"Why would I be mad?" a deep baritone voice said behind her.
Mia jumped. God, she hated it when people snuck up on her, she spun round to face him,
"Mr Cole Anderson, Sir, if we are going to maintain a good working relationship," she told him, both hands on her tiny waist,
"you've got to promise never to sneak up on me. You literally have to swear." Her eyes narrowed at him.
Cole however was amused,
"Sorry, can't. I can't make you that promise, your expression was too damn good to resist. Anyway, what's for dinner? I'm starving."
Mia stilled,
"Dinner will be ready...very soon.
Just wait at the dining table, please." she murmured, attempting to sound polite.
Cole was not having it. He cupped his ears and leaned in close to her,
"what was that?"
Mia swallowed. His closeness was doing very weird things to her insides. She raised her voice slightly so he could hear her,
"I said dinner will be ready very soon"
"Jeez, jeez. You don't have to yell"
Mia bared her teeth at him, unable to control herself.
" well your ears were not working fine earlier."
He smiled, a boyish smile, like someone that was about to do something mischievous. Then he walked closer, effectively taking all her personal space.
He was so close that she had to tilt her head to look at him. He was so tall, well over six feet, perhaps six foot three.
"Why don't you touch me Mia. You know, to confirm if my ears are working fine and everything"
Her pulse quickened and she heard herself say, "why not?"
A little breathless, she lifted her hands to his ears and touched him, slowly at first, then she pulled it, just a little. She did not have to look at Cole to realise the effect that she had on him. He was so close, her chest pressed to his and she could feel the violent thunderings of his heart beat.
He barely made any efforts to conceal his reactions to her touch. His eyes slid close and he took a deep breath, his fingers tightening into fists, like he was struggling against something, perhaps a higher power that had a powerful grip on him.
His lips tightened, as if he was fighting a silent battle with himself. One that he appeared to be loosing as his eyes slid half closed and he grabbed her fingers in his large ones and dragged it all the way down, through his face, then his massive chest and the flat hard planes of his stomach. He was about to go lower when she snatched her hands back, sudden memories of seven years ago flashing through her mind.
She saw herself gagged and tied to the poles. Knees braced and legs wide open, waiting to be assaulted.
She gasped, hands flying to her mouth as she hastily stepped back, her back flattening against the kitchen wall as she remembered all the reasons she never let men close to her. Cole just stood there, staring at her. If he was surprised at her reaction, he didn't show it.
" Well, Miss Rodriguez, you just physically assaulted me and it appears that you enjoyed doing it. Should I then draw the conclusion that you're some kinda sadist?"
His eyes turned an even darker shade of blue and Mia wondered if she just imagined the flecks of gold she saw in them. Meanwhile, hers still sparked fire.
"Mr Anderson, if you have not noticed you verbally assaulted me first and I remember that you asked to get your ears checked. Now if you would please excuse me, I've got things to do."
She wanted to walk out on him again? She could bet her little ass that he wasn't going to let her do that, he wasn't ever going to let her walk away from him again. Now where did that come from, Cold mentally smacked himself.
"No"
She looked up at him, startled,
"No?"
"No, miss Rodriguez, I won't get out of your way. Infact, I enjoy you standing there just fine." He said, folding his massive forearms.
Okay, right now, Mia was way beyond furious. She placed both hands on his brick wall of a chest and pushed. It was like trying to shove aside an extraordinarily large hill. He didn't even budge. She seethed.
"Get outta my way Mr Anderson. You don't know me, if you did, you wouldn't want to be playing these games with me."
Cole flailed his arms in the air in mock fear,
"ohhhh, I'm so scared."
Meanwhile, Cole's Grand dad had been watching them thoughtfully,
"Come on Cole, stop teasing your pretty housekeeper"
"Thank you, Zach. At least I have someone on my side."
Mia stepped around Cole and took his Grand dad's arms,
"Come on, Grand Pa, I'll walk you down to the dinning area."
With that, she walked out of the kitchen like a regal queen, her head held high. Cole watched her triumphant departure, furious with her but even more furious with himself for allowing her little games to get to him.
His wolf had been close to the surface again tonight. He had to keep his fingers hidden as his sharp wolf claws had already started making its way out. His gums ached with the heavy pressure of his fangs. He'd somehow managed to rein them in with some effort but being in close proximity with Mia did crazy things to him.
Damn the woman would probably be the death of me, he growled. "when are we finally going to have a taste of her, you moron. What are you waiting for?" his wolf muttered .
Shut up, he growled at his beast. I only just met her, you can't possibly expect me to jump her bones so soon.
"stop wasting so much time, some other guy might have her before you even get the chance."
Cole couldn't even imagine Mia with another man, he didn't know why he was so possessive but the very thought of some other man touching her made his blood run cold.
He ran his hands over his face, he'd been on tour for the past three months and he felt like s**t. That was probably why Mia could get to him so easily.
His wolf wouldn't let him off the hook that easily,
"what if she's ours? What if she's your mate. What if she's MINE."
*****************************
Mia smiled to herself as she got out a chair for Grand pa Zach to sit on. She hoped that she'd finally sent Cole the message, she might be his housekeeper, but she wasn't one of those wimp, Lily livered, foreign girls that he used to having around. At the thought of Cole with any other woman, Mia's heart flipped. This was crazy. Why should she feel jealous if Cole dated other women? It certainly wasn't any of her business.
She'd nearly dissolved when he had come into the kitchen earlier. He was so breathtakingly hot and even more handsome than she'd seen him earlier. The water from his bath still glistened in his dark hair. He'd put on a sweat shirt and Levi's and looked like a s*x god straight out of one of Maria's hot romance novels.
Mia blinked to clear her head. It was already dark outside. She had to get the kitchen in order then go home to Maria. Speaking of Maria, Mia hadn't heard from her little sister since she dropped her at school that morning. She went out the back door and sat on the comfy porch hammock, got out her phone and dialed Maria's number. Her sister answered on the second ring,
"Hola, big sis, what's the haps?"
Mia was clearly amused,
"What's the haps?"
"Oh, it's what the kids at school are saying now. It means what's up in twenty five year olds' language."
Mia laughed
" I know what it means. I was in high school too remember?"
"Hey, you sound exhausted" Maria noted, concerned etched in her tone, "was the house in a bad state when you got there?"
"No...no, and I'm completely fine."
"You don't sound fine.Have you had something to eat?"
"Hey", Mia countered, "I'm the big sister here. I should be asking the questions."
"Seriously sis," Maria said in a bored voice, "Have you had something to eat or not? I hope your new employer is treating you well or I'll..."
Mia stopped her,
"Hey, hey, dictator. I devoured a bowl of ice cream earlier out of frustration. As for my new employer, I'll fill you in on all the dits later, okay?"
"Promise?"
"Promise. Don't forget to keep the doors locked. I'll be home soon, sweetie. Eat something."
"Okay, bye big sis. Love 'ya"
"Love you too bebita." and the line went dead.
