Chapter 18: Making Amends

After a few days of silence, Mateo texted Liam: I miss you. Can we talk?
Liam’s heart ached as he saw the message. He missed Mateo too, more than he wanted to actually admit. They arranged a call that night, both still really nervous but willing to work through it.
“I’m sorry,” Liam said softly first, his voice quiet. “I’ve been stressed, and I took it out on you. That wasn’t fair.”
Mateo sighed on the other end of the line. “I’m sorry too. I know I haven’t been the best at balancing everything. I should’ve communicated better.”
They spent the next hour talking honestly with each other, something they hadn’t really done in a while. By the end of the conversation, the tension between them had eased a lot , and they both felt more connected to each other than ever.
“We are going to be okay,” Mateo said, his voice filled with determination. “We’ve come too far to let this be the end of us.”
Liam smiled softly, feeling the weight of their fight lift off of his shoulders. “Yeah, we will, we will be ok”
