She always liked staring at the blue clear sky in the middle of the day. Just looking, enjoying it’s warm radiation of the sun on her skin as the wind blew past. A cool fresh breeze so comforting, it made her relax.
But this time she wasn’t staring at the clear blue sky anymore but the sun as it set bidding the world goodbye, for it to rise again tomorrow, for a new world of adventure — giving the moon privilege to light up the night and show the night — world — it could shine just as brightly and enchant people.
Beautiful colours filled the sky around the sun, red yellow orange with the additional colour of the sky, it was a lovely sight. Sunsets and sunrise were the eyes greatest gift the world could gift and so was the moon, it glorious radiation in the night — the darkness — was tremendous.
Rose tapped her foot against the graveled ground waiting on Melody it had been quite a while maybe the girl stood her up. Pulling her white doctors coat she hugged herself with a sigh she got off the bench, that was it for today.
“It’s for a good reason!” she heard Melody’s voice shout. Turning to the direction the voice came from, Rose stood dumbfound.
She was racing towards her the earlier instrument in hand as a nurse in pink scrubs chased after her.
The girl laughed as she out ran the nurse, her hair waved with the wind as she ran, her long sleeved oversized shirt stuck to her body as the wind blew. She loved so happy through out laughing avoiding the nurse’s grasp, a smile came on Rose’s face as well.
“Get back here Melody!” the nurse urged running after her. Jumping the bench in front of her Melody rushed past Rose, hiding behind her.
Rose hardly was able to content her laugh, looking over her shoulder to Melody she smiled. “I’ll keep an eye on her for you.” She spoke turning to the patting nurse.
Bending down the woman held onto her knees for support as she took deep breaths in and out. “That girl will be the death of me!” the woman groaned. She stood again her chest still rising vigorously, “Good luck with her, you’ll need it.” she spoke turning she left the two.
Rose chuckled shaking her head back and forth.
Breathing out in relief Melody pressed her back against Rose’s back trying to catch her breath. Looking at her over her shoulder Rose’s smile grew, she liked how they were at moment for some reason. “How many minutes?” she asked Melody.
“Two minutes!” the girl breathed out, tired and worn out. Rose giggled, staring at the sky she smiled. “It’s beautiful ain’t it.” she mumbled.
Looking up as well Melody stared in awe at the sunset, it was beautiful and she was happy, she was watching the sunset with a woman she grew fond of, pressed against her back. “It sure is.”
Staring at the sky both the ladies smiled for more than just content at watching the sun set but because of the presence of the other.
“Okay, shall we mademoiselle?”
Turning to the girl Rose smiled, taking her hand in hers she replied. “Une si gentille femme.” Her voice so sooth as she spoke her mother language. She had only been there once, when she was way young, when her family was whole but she loved each moment and remembered.
“You’re fluent in French?” the girl questioned looking at her in amusement.
Rose disapproved with a head nod, “Not really, I try. I guess you are though.”
Chuckling Melody shook her head, she could never get past the greetings in French. “I mean only know bonjour. But yeah I’m fluent.” she said with her head held high.
Rose smiled staring at the girl as she chuckled, so soft and light. “Je tombe pour vous.” she mumbled looking into her eyes.
Melody smiled, still looking into her eyes as she spoke. “Don’t know what you just said but that’s hot!” the girl squealed in excitement.
Shaking her head Rose walked past Melody. She took her seat on the benches, with a smirk on her face she spoke. “Are you going to play or just talk.”
Melody rushed to her side, taking a seat she brought the guitar on her lap. “Sing and play.” Rose furrowed her eyebrows, this was going to be interesting.
Her fingers touched the guitar strings with gentleness, moving in a rhythm the soulless notes made a smooth tune — a melody.
“I see you hurt, I see you sufferin'
You're not alone, in case you're wondering
Oh you can come to me
Lay your head on me.”
Swerving her head back and forth to the tune of the guitar and the melody of her voice, a smile appeared.
“Can see your lost, I see you strugglin'
Can't even tell your friends from your enemies
But you can come to me
Lay your head on me.”
The girls voice so soothing to the ears almost like an enchanted spell playing it’s way to the heart, so mesmerising as the waves of the water hitting the shore on a windy day — like the tune your heart played as you stared at the one.
“Oh when you say you've given up
When you say you had enough
I'm thinking 'bout you always
I'm thinking 'bout you always.”
A smile creeped onto the girl’s face as she stared at Rose as she tapped her foot against the gravel, nodding her head with beat of the guitar.
She’s so beautiful. The thought raced into her mind as stared at her. Just her sight alone was enough to make her heart jump — skip a beat infact.
“When the more you love, the more you lose
The more I'm there for you
I'm thinking 'bout you always
I'm thinking 'bout you always.”
Rose frowned, she did loose, too much and it hurt yet she could not free them — all bottled up inside her, they were killing her. Feeling a little shove she looked up.
Meeting Melody’s pout she chuckled. With her eyebrows she stared down at her shoulder to her, furrowing her eyebrows Rose was confused untill Melody spoke — sang.
“So lay your head on me
So lay your head on me.”
As the song said, Rose rested her head on her shoulder without protest. Still playing Melody smiled looking away from the girl she sang on.
“And all the ones you thought would stick around
I mean the ones you really cared about
Tell me do they say
Lay your head on me.”
Rose closed her eyes as she took in the lovely scent the girl carried. A hint of cool freshness like that a mint gave and sweet aroma of violet flowers. A rather odd mixture but odd always gave out the best, she knew for she laid on the odd girl’s shoulder.
“And I know when days are dark and you drown in everything
And I know you try to numb 'cause you don't wanna feel a thing
You know you can
Lay your head on me.”
Feeling her arm move a bit as she played, Rose could tell the girl had been trying her best not to disturb her with the movements, holding back. She found that sweet and charming.
“So lay your head on me
So lay your head on me
So lay your head on me...”
Ending the song the tune of the guitar faded, so did her voice. It had no longer been a sunset they stared at but the peach black sky and the tiny twinkling stars miles and miles so far away.
Far in space laid beautiful and unexplained magnificent views. Just like Melody, she needed not to understand the girl, it would just waste time but she knew the girl was magnificent and the unique could never be understood — only treasured.
“j'ai peur de te perdre aussi.” Rose murmured interlocking her fingers with Melody’s.
