Chapter 1: The Great Transformation of the World
The fresh rain in the empty mountains delivered a cold blow to this scorching summer day, suppressing its arrogance. In the early morning, the air was perfect, and the steaming baozi shop at the school gate emitted a tempting aroma. The golden youtiao, enticing appetites, added to the scene. "Uncle Seven, soy milk and youtiao," a somewhat unkempt young boy sat on a stool, saying to the old man selling youtiao. "Coming right up." The youtiao old man quickly poured soy milk, filling it to the brim, smiling with an oily face. "Mo Fan, you're about to have the magic assessment, work hard to get into the magician high school, bring some glory to our family." Mo Fan stared at his Uncle Seven, who sold breakfast at the school gate, thought for a moment, and figured he must have misheard. So, he nodded while eating. After a dizzying sleep the night before, feeling like he had a dream spanning centuries, Mo Fan woke up disoriented, not knowing the direction or the time of day. Mo Fan wolfed down his breakfast, holding half a youtiao about to take a bite, when he suddenly felt a weight beside him. A balding man in his thirties sat down, emitting a scent of smoke. "Mo Fan, have breakfast." The balding man, Officer Hu, greeted Mo Fan with a smile. "Morning, Officer Hu, morning." Mo Fan quickly greeted him. This man was the famous Officer Hu, wearing ill-fitting suits every day, with a shiny bald head. "I forgot my watch. What time is it?" Officer Hu showed his yellow teeth. Mo Fan took out his old Nokia and checked, "It's fifteen minutes before the bell rings." "Damn, running late. I haven't finished my magic theory PowerPoint, no time for breakfast..." Officer Hu stood up again, almost causing Mo Fan to lose balance. "Boss, skip the soy milk... Walking to the office is too slow. Forget it, consuming a bit of magic power won't hurt." Officer Hu muttered to himself. Mo Fan was once again puzzled, feeling like Officer Hu was speaking Martian. Just as Mo Fan thought he might have misheard, the sunshade of the soy milk stall suddenly moved in a bizarre way, as if there was some pressure forcing its way out from the middle of the stall... A demonic wind blew, messing up Mo Fan's hair, and the collar of his clothes rustled. "Fenggui Jixing!" Officer Hu suddenly chanted, and Mo Fan saw his ill-fitting suit move as if a strong wind was blowing in. The tie danced, the trousers swayed, and Mo Fan was astonished. Why was it so windy early in the morning, and why was it blowing so coolly towards Officer Hu? "Whoosh~" A green light flashed, and Mo Fan vaguely saw a magnificent starlight trajectory appearing around Officer Hu, vanishing in an instant. "Mo Fan, my student, the teacher will go ahead. Study hard, okay?" Officer Hu turned around, revealing a smile full of yellow teeth. Mo Fan was somewhat dumbfounded. Before he could react, there was a "whoosh" sound! The slightly overweight, bald, ill-fitting-suited Officer Hu seemed to have activated some kind of cheat, rapidly sprinting towards the school along the eerie dust trail created by the wind! His high-speed dash was astonishing, freezing the other students in their tracks as Officer Hu swiftly weaved through them, leaving behind a shocking trail of wind and dust... In just a few seconds, Mo Fan even felt Officer Hu's yellow-toothed face still in front of him, but he had already disappeared into the depths of the school gate, leaving no trace. While the words "Study hard" echoed in his ears, Officer Hu was nowhere to be seen. With half of a youtiao crumb still in his mouth, Mo Fan's chewing came to a sudden halt, and the other half slipped from his hand!!! Officer Hu, are you a successor of Duan Yu, mastering the art of Lightness Technique??? ... "This is an illusion; it must be an illusion." After a while, Mo Fan rubbed his eyes. It must be due to not sleeping well last night, pressing on his nerves or something, otherwise, how could he see such a scene? He quickly finished his breakfast, went to the classroom, and caught up on some sleep. Good grief, what on earth was happening? A bald Officer Hu mastering Lightness Technique? In the classroom, to dispel his recent illusion, he immediately laid his head on the desk without a second thought. Whispers from the front desk reached his ears, two typical bookworms discussing quietly. One said, "There's less than a month left. If we don't get into a good high school, what will we do?" "You're so talented, definitely getting into Tianlan Magic High School." "Where, where, you're the talented one. Your scores in theoretical classes are so high; you can recognize almost every magical creature, and you know their weaknesses." Mo Fan furrowed his brows. It wasn't the first time he heard about magic, and what was going on? Was he hallucinating again? I haven't taken any drugs, and I don't even smoke! Well, maybe I just didn't sleep well. Ignoring the crazy conversation of the two guys in front, Mo Fan quickly entered a deep sleep. Years of study experience had taught Mo Fan the advanced skill of falling asleep on the desk in a split second. ... "Students, open your textbooks. Today, we'll continue learning the basic principles of magic release. Do you remember what I told you? To cast a basic spell, you need to connect the stars in your magic stardust, creating a star's trajectory for magic power to conduct. I've explained this principle to you many times, and it's also the focus of your upcoming exams." Mathematics teacher Su Qingzhi maintained his rhythmic teaching style. Mo Fan would usually enter a deeper dream with the teacher's voice, but when he heard the words "magic release" and "stars" again, he woke up instantly. "Mo Fan, pay attention in class. There's less than a month left, and you're still neglecting your studies!" Su Qingzhi scolded as soon as he noticed Mo Fan. The classmates turned to look, sneaking in a few laughs. Making fun of the class underachievers became their favorite pastime in class. "Open your textbook for me, Mo Fan." Su Qingzhi continued. Mo Fan sighed helplessly, opening his textbook... "Damn, what's this?" Mo Fan almost cursed. All the shapes, functions, and formulas that were originally in the math textbook were gone, replaced by completely incomprehensible star trajectories, star maps, and lines resembling magical arrays. It looked like... like... a magical formation! Mo Fan forcibly suppressed his astonishment and suddenly realized something. When the math teacher wasn't paying attention, Mo Fan kicked his desk-mate Guan Gu under the table and said, "Are you messing with me? Change my book back to math quickly." "Big brother, what math book?" Guan Gu, with a black face, felt wrong. He didn't provoke anyone. "Don't give me nonsense," Mo Fan exclaimed angrily. This guy is pretending pretty well; do you think I, someone with a mental disorder, will actually believe you? "Boss, you've really gone crazy reading novels. We're in a magical world here, okay? Where does math, that mysterious and profound thing, come from? If we had that, I'd have been studying interesting things like math and language every day instead of these boring magic theories, elemental classes, and magical creature courses." Guan Gu spoke emphatically and with a sense of urgency. Mo Fan looked at Guan Gu's expression. This jerk managed to say all that without showing any flaws, as if it were really the case. My desk mate is crazy, not only crazy himself but also trying to make me crazy! Studying these boring magic theories, elemental classes, and magical creature courses... Haha! You have the nerve to say that! "If you don't believe it, listen to what the teacher says," Guan Gu said calmly, noting Mo Fan's strange expression. Mo Fan then listened carefully to what the math teacher, Su Qingzhi, was saying. However, a stream of Martian language, a series of terms completely incomprehensible to Mo Fan, rushed in, making him feel uneasy. Su Qingzhi didn't mention a single familiar term like "functions" or "formulas." Instead, he repeatedly talked about "star trajectories," "star maps," and even mentioned things like "fire series," "ice series," and "water series." "Insane, all insane." Mo Fan's conviction was firm; he wouldn't believe these words. The next class was his favorite Chinese teacher, Teacher Qin. Beautiful, sexy, mature, gentle, with well-proportioned twin peaks and a round and shapely buttock, Teacher Qin would surely not use such nonsense to fool him! ... Enduring the incomprehensible math class, not long after, a slender figure in a black professional suit, Teacher Qin, entered the classroom. She smiled slightly, instantly brightening the entire class. All the male students in the class turned into kindergarten children, eagerly greeting the teacher. "Good morning, students. Today, we will talk about the pros and cons of dark magic. You should know that dark magic is divided into three series: undead series, curse series, and shadow series. So, what are the different-level magics in these three series..." Teacher Qin spoke fluently, her voice soft and delightful. Normally, Mo Fan would be completely enchanted watching and listening to her. But today, after hearing this sentence, his expression was as if he had eaten a dead fly. His neurotic desk mate happened to make a face that said, "See, I didn't say anything wrong." Damn it, you're not wrong; it's just that I'm the one with a problem! Mo Fan couldn't take it anymore and stood up abruptly from his chair. "Teacher, aren't we supposed to have Chinese class now?" Mo Fan questioned. Guan Gu, Mo Fan's desk mate, realized that Mo Fan was standing up to question, and he couldn't stop him. After hearing what he said, Guan Gu even made a "I can't believe it" gesture by patting his forehead. As soon as Mo Fan finished speaking, the quiet classroom suddenly burst into laughter. Over forty students in the class laughed so hard that they were leaning in all directions, especially Mu Bai, who was laughing so much that tears almost came out. Teacher Qin didn't laugh; she just pushed her golden-rimmed glasses and maintained a smile, looking at Mo Fan with those clear cat-like eyes, saying earnestly, "Mo Fan, what you call Chinese is science here. Science doesn't exist here, and you shouldn't be obsessed with those unreal things. Instead, you should study magic seriously and become a useful magician for society. Do you understand?" Can you imagine the expression on a teenager's face when a Chinese teacher is particularly sincere and serious while saying such words? The sky is falling!
