SARA Breeze, the air, in my hair. I slowly breathe it in. The air feels so different, the atmosphere feels distinct. The tall buildings, the fast-pacing cars, the people, everything is just the way it is in the movies. “Put your head back in, Sara” Mrs. Dina says to me as she winds up the door window and puts the AC on. Wow, so a car can be this cool? I’m really going to see and experience a lot of amusing things in the city! “Remember Sara, this man is a very well-known billionaire, he has a lot of companies and also, he’s known for being cold, very cold and mean to people so you have to be careful the way you behave around him” She explains. “Okay” I nod “He’s fired 6 cooks in the last 2 months so you really have to be on your best behavior around him” She concludes. I nod again with a tingle of fear. Mrs. Dina’s information about Mr. Davis, the man I’m going to the city to work with, has swallowed the excitement I felt a few minutes ago. This is my first time in this city, or in civilization in general. I’ve been reserved and mostly been with myself my entire life and here I am heading to a city filled with 3.9 million people and the one person I’ll be seeing frequently or literally living with is mean and cold? How do I survive? I don’t want to be the seventh cook he’s going to fire. If he fires me then that means bye-bye to the city and welcome back to Decorah. No! Heavens, I don’t want that, please help me. “Sara” Mrs. Dina calls. “Yeah, Ma’am?” I snap out of my thoughts. “Don’t be scared, you don’t have to be scared, what did I tell you about fear?” She asks. “Fear is the first step to failure” I say, letting it sink in. “Good, know and tell yourself that you can do this” She concludes. “Okay, Ma'am,” I replied. I hope that motivation works, because I’m as nervous as a criminal about to be electrocuted. After thirty more minutes, we arrive at this really huge mansion with a gigantic gate. “Heavens, how many people live in this hugeness?” I think aloud. Mrs. Dina chuckles as she steps out of the driver’s seat and I step out of the passenger’s seat where I’ve been. She opens the trunk of her car and I take out my bag before she closes the trunk. She gives me a beautiful smile before pulling me into a hug. I'm so happy to have this kind-hearted woman in my life. She found me this job and applied for me. I just pray I get employed. “Don’t forget to tell the head chef you’re from me,” She says. “And here’s your application” She hands me some documents. “Whatever happens, make sure you call me” She concludes before heading into her car and zooming off. I keep bowing in gratitude until her car goes out of sight. I inhale and exhale up to ten times, pace up and down for 3 minutes before finally gaining the slight courage to press the gatebell. “Who’s that?” A voice asks authoritatively from the intercom. “It's ... .um…I’m…Sara…Sara Duhigg” I stutter. “And what is it you want?” The voice inquires further. “I’m here for the…the interview…interview for the cook…chef. I’m from Mrs. Dina” I conclude with my heart beating out of my chest. The buzzer sound scared me so much that I hit my butt on the ground with a yelp. The gate opens and I pick myself up and drag my bag as I fearfully walk into the mansion. Heavens! This is really huge! There are lots of sculptures, garages, cars and dead looking men in suits. They look so scary! I kept looking back at them as they keep this grim expression on. “Are these people statues?” I ask myself. If they are, that must be a hell of a really realistic sculpturing because they aren’t moving at all. I better look ahead and focus on where I’m headed. Dang! I find myself in the strong arms of someone as I bump my head into his chest. I groan slightly before looking up to meet his face and h…..Oh my God! He’s so tall, his muscles evident in the black hoodie he has on, his black and brown yet curly hairs reaching his neck, his golden eyes which you can completely get lost in, his perfectly structured pointed nose, his luscious and kissable lips, his jawline so defined, his cheekbones you don’t want to ever take your hands off. And the body? Heavens! His chest looks so huge as they go up and down as he breathes in a perfectly controlled manner. “Who are you?” He asks authoritatively. “Yea…Yeah?” I snap out of my reverie as he lets go of me and I try to regain my composure. “I asked you who you are” He demands with a stern tone. “I’m here for the chef interview” I try to hold back a stutter. “Follow me” He said in a strict manner before turning to leave. I quickly follow him. Is everyone just cold and mean in this mansion? Is this how billionaires' lives are? Do they make their money by being cold? The bodyguards don’t smile, even the servants too. Is smiling prohibited in this mansion?
