Her parents looked at her with surprise.
Then her father asked, “Are you sure you actually want to, after today?”
Nodding, Lizzie said, “Especially after today, I want to do it.”
“What do you think this would accomplish?” her mother asked.
“I think we might be able to get help in keeping your family away from us,” Lizzie told her. “I mean, if both sides want me, don’t you think they might actually fight over me and not bother us anymore?”
Her parents looked at her with uncertain looks, then looked at each other.
“We’ll talk more about this when we get home tomorrow,” her father said. “Your mother and I need time to think about it.”
Lizzie nodded, then said, “I’m heading back up to bed, but I think it’s a good idea.”
