As soon as she had moved down the stairs far enough, her mother came behind her, shutting the door over them and blocking out the light. The darkness enveloped them, causing Lizzie to freeze for a moment as she listened for any sounds around her. A bright light shining from behind her lit up the staircase, showing her an empty room at the bottom of the stairs.
