Her mouth dropped open, and her eyes went wide.
Closing her mouth again, she stammered, “You want to take me to the Halloween festival?”
He nodded and said, “We had such a good time at Homecoming…well, at least until the fight.”
She grimaced at the reminder.
“I just thought you might want to go to the festival with me,” he finished.
She smiled at him and said, “While I would love to go to the festival with you, it’s a family tradition that we all go together with Elle and her family.”
His smile faded and was replaced by a frown.
She hurried to add, “But, I’d love to run into you there, and you can hang out with us.”
He thought for a moment, then nodded.
“I can do that,” he told her. “I don’t want to mess with family traditions after all.”
