A pack’s Deception

Chapter two

AN AWKWARD HARMONY

"What could a young girl be doing in the woods all alone,"he wondered

Then he went toward her direction and asked her the pack she belonged to but instead of responding she started crying.

He didn't know what to do as he just stood there and watched her cry although it took effect on him.

He continued watching as tears fell through her face and how her pale face became red, he knew something was wrong but before he concluded he needed to listen to the girl.

He later took courage to pull her in his arms and patted her on her back, the girl in turn stopped crying.

When she finally pulled her away, he asked her what her name was and she told him that her name was Aurora Mingan.

Maverick was sure that he hadn't heard that name before and didn't want her to cry if he made mention of the pack she belonged to so he kept quiet.

While he was quiet, he took a closer look at the girl and noticed that she was different from the girls he had seen.

He even tried to imagine how she would look like is she shifted to her wolf form.

He saw that she has red eyes instead of the green colored eyes that other girls had, he also noticed that she had a silver hair.

He would have thought that he was mistaken if he had been far away from her but since she was close to him he was sure that she had silver hair.

There was also a difference in her skin color it was pure white, he concluded in his mind that she was a Moon goddess and maybe came to give him a mate as it was their responsibility.

Then the thought of asking her about her parents instead of her pack hit his mind.

He thought "If I ask her about her parents perhaps she won't cry and with me knowing their identity, I can know the pack she belongs to".

Then he asked, "what about your parents and why are you all alone in the woods".

She looked up to him since he was taller that her, when their eyes met Maverick was sure that something felt different.

He felt the urge that she belonged to him, he wanted her and he wanted to keep her save at all cost.

When she looked away, he felt like he had been lifted off a spell, he shrugged his shoulders as he waited for her reply.

Then she said in a very frail voice that sounded like the morning humming of the birds to Maverick and the voice was soothing to his ears.

She said to him" I don't recall anything about my family, the only thing I can recall is that I was left at the care of an old man who disappeared all of a sudden leaving me all alone again".

Maverick didn't know why but the thought of her being alone angered him more than it angered her.

Maverick noticed that she was no longer sad and she had accepted her date the way it came for her because she was casual while talking about her she had been abandoned.

That was when it occurred to him that he had thought way too much by thinking that she was a Moon goddess.

So he thought"since she is already okay, I should ask her about her pack again".

As he was about to ask her about her pack again, Shadow showed up and interrupted them.

He was angry with Shadow's presence and told him that he was done hunting for the day, and he was ready to return to the pack.

At the mention of him returning to the his pack he could sense that Aurora was sad again.

Then Shadow taunted him by saying "While you were chatting away with your Luna, you never thought about going back to the pack since you were done hunting, but because you are seeing me now all of a sudden you want to go back to the pack"

Maverick never gave him any reply he only looked at Aurora one more time and with the look he interpreted on her face, he regretted saying that he wanted to go back to his pack.

He felt like being with her all day, watching her talk and also protecting her but he couldn't achieve any of those because of the responsibility he had weighing him down.

He was sure that he might never get to see her again since he had been coming to the woods and that was his first time seeing her.

As he turned to go a part of him hoped that she was going to hold him back but nothing happened, he could only hear one footstep trailing him and he was sure that the footstep belonged to Shadow.

Then he said "I have never seen any girl as beautiful as her, everything about her just interests me",

But there was no response, he knew that there was nothing that interests Shadow more than talking about girls so not getting a response was awkward.

Then he turned and to his utmost surprise it was Aurora that had the footsteps not Shadow.

He then asked her where Shadow was and why she was the one following him and then she said "While you were about to leave, your friend told you that he was going back to get something from where he came from in the woods but you were so were engrossed in your thoughts that you couldn't hear him".

Maverick was very embarrassed because he knew that she heard everything he said and then when he summoned courage and looked at her, she smiled

Maverick was sure that the wolf in him didn't want to look away, he couldn't still understand why she grabbed his attention so much and why his wolf reacted that way to her smile.

While he was still processing his thoughts, Shadow showed up and asked him why he had left the spot that he told him to wait for him in.

Maverick in turn to cover-up his shame said that he was the Alpha of their pack and was free to do whatever he wanted, he also included that he do not take orders from anyone.

This was surprising to Shadow because he knew that Maverick never liked bragging about his position in the pack but as soon as he tore his gaze away from Maverick and looked at Aurora, he understood why.

He had always been with Maverick enough to know that Maverick was not interested in women because they always flocked around him.

He also remembered when he used to beg Maverick to introduce him to women that would like him, some of the women came to him but would leave him immediately and go after Maverick one they had seen him.

He knew that this was different, the Maverick that he knew that was always cold and hostile to women really wanted to prove himself to the lady in front of them.

He then looked at Maverick and Aurora and said "I see the both of you were getting along very well and have probably found out that you belonged to each other anyways I wouldn't be a party to watching you both do your thing so I would leave first".

After listening to Shadow, Maverick questioned himself by saying"Could she be my mate, how come I feel so weird around her and my wolf is also happy when I am with her".

He then concluded in his mind that he was going to meet Gamma and tell him about his feelings.

As they were both about to leave, Maverick noticed that something was holding him back and thought to himself"What could be holding me back".
