Chapter 13Marcus’ pov The phone rang three times before Maddie answered. “Hello.” “Maddie hey it’s Marcus can you come over. I would go over there but Jaylah is asleep, and well I really need to talk to you.” “Um yea sure I’ll be over in a little bit.” “Okay I’ll see you soon.” After we hung up, I went downstairs to make a pot of coffee. This was going to be a long night. I planned on telling her exactly how I felt. I wanted a future with Maddie. I only hoped I didn’t screw everything up. I was just confused. I didn’t want Jaylah to forget her mom. Now I know that she can still love her mom while loving Maddie at the same time. I love both women, so can she? Jaylah needed a mommy, and Maddie was perfect for that job. In a way I think this was meant to happen this way. There was a knock on the door, so I hurried to answer it. When I opened the door and saw Maddie everything clicked into place for me. I missed her so much. I took her coat and walked into the kitchen with her following right behind me. “I was kind of surprised to hear from you.” Maddie said. “Maddie I am so sorry for how I acted.” “Look Marcus I get it.” I took her hand in mine and could tell she was fighting back tears. “Maddie, I love you.” She looked up at me shocked. “What?” “I was scared at first, but not anymore. I love you, and I want you to be a part of mine and Jasmine’s life.” I could see the tears falling down her face, and quickly wiped them away before kissing her cheek. “I love you and Jaylah so much Marcus.” I pulled her into me and kissed her. This felt so right. Yes, I loved my wife, and I will never forget the time we had shared together. But loving Maddie felt as if it was saving me. She made me feel alive again. She fixed me. She was just what we needed. “Maddie stay with me tonight.” “Yes.” We got up and walked to my room. I didn’t want to let her go. Tonight, was the start of our life together. I held her in my arms in fear I would wake up and this would all be a dream. I could tell that Maddie had been crying and I knew it was because of me and how I had reacted when she told me about Jaylah wanting to call her mom. I handled that situation so poorly. I know Maddie would never try and take Addison’s place. She will be right by my side telling Jaylah all about the mother that happily gave up her life to save hers. Maddie was a special kind of woman and I can’t believe I almost gave that up. I was a damn fool and didn’t deserve her, but I was glad she was here and wanted me. I promised to never make her cry again. I was a broken man, but I promised to always love her and make her happy. She looked up at me and smiled so I kissed her on the tip of her nose and held her a little tighter as I lay my head down and went to sleep with my beautiful woman in my arms.
