Where I always find you

1107 Words
Luke POV: The house already smelled like her, and it was making me feel like I was in euphoria. I wanted to mark her right there when I rescued her, but I knew it was a bad time. I walked to the kitchen and put the kettle on to boil, and took out some hot chocolate mix. I started making her a cup when I heard the water turn off, and my hands were shaking. I wanted to rush up to her right now and see her naked and wet. I wanted her to want me as much as I wanted her. Instead, I stirred the hot chocolate and walked slowly up the stairs, trying to make sure I didn't spill because of how much adrenaline was pumping through me. I could smell her scent calling me from my bedroom. I pushed open the door, not even thinking to knock, She looked at me weirdly, her dark wet hair splayed down her shoulders over my large grey T-shirt that she was wearing as a night dress. "I made you hot chocolate!" I blurted and she gave me a feint smile, "I thought chocolate was poisonous to dogs," she said, and I fought every urge within me to not grab her and kiss her hard like she has never been kissed before. "I'm not a dog," I said, and she smiled, taking a sip, her lips curled perfectly and matched the red mug beautifully and enticingly. "So, you want to talk," I said, prompting any conversation to stay with my mate. She put the mug down, "yes, so how did you find me?" She asked, sitting down on my black duvet at the edge of the bed. "You didn't show up and I got worried." A smile crept onto her face, "and how did you find me?" She asked, "well, it wasn't rocket science, I knew where you lived so I snuck in and sniffed you out." She burst out laughing, "what?" I asked, confused. "Never thought I would hear 'sniffed you out' in a sentence before." I rolled my eyes at her, "my turn to ask a question," I said, and she looked at me expectantly, "why were you in a dungeon?" She sighed and played with the mug in her hands. "My father found out about me being a wolf, or, should I say, he already knew and was testing me," she sighed heavily. "I actually don't want to talk about it." I nodded. "I'm glad you found me," she said scraping her thumb along the rim of the mug. I sat down next to her, "Without you, I am incomplete, so I can promise you that I will always find you," I took her hand in mine and brought it to my lips, "Always." She smiled, and our eyes met. We leaned into each other, her eyes glancing at my lips, and my eyes fixed on hers. Our lips were mere inches apart before there was a knock on the door, and I already knew who it was. I didn’t even need to hear the voice to know who stood behind that damn door. The scent hit me first—timber, iron, and impatience. Beta Rowan. Of all the times he could’ve come looking for me, he picked this moment, when my mate’s lips were right there—soft, parted, waiting—calling to me just as strongly as her scent. I closed my eyes and inhaled sharply, forcing down a growl. When I opened them again, she was still looking at me, cheeks flushed, breath shaking. Goddess, she was beautiful. My wolf clawed at my insides, wanting to shove the door open, throw Rowan out the window, and finish what we started. But reason won… barely. Another knock, louder this time. “Luke,” Rowan’s voice carried through the wood. “It’s urgent.” Of course, it was. Wasn't it always? I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes. I stood slowly, letting her hand fall from mine even though every cell in my body protested. Her fingers lingered on mine for a heartbeat longer, as if asking me not to go. And damn it, I almost didn’t. “I’ll be right back,” I murmured, my voice rougher than I intended. Her eyes followed me, wide and uncertain. Protective instinct roared through me. I opened the door just enough to slip outside, then shut it behind me so she wouldn’t hear the conversation—or see the shift in my expression. "What?" I snapped, not even pretending to be polite. Rowan raised his brows. "Nice to see you too, Alpha." I folded my arms. "You know I am not the Alpha, just his offspring." He lowered his voice, ignoring my remark. "The girl—you didn’t bring her through the main gate. The guards didn’t scent her arrival. Where did you find her?" My jaw ticked. "That’s not your concern." "It is when she’s potentially a threat." A low, dangerous growl slipped out of me before I could stop it. Rowan stiffened, eyes widening. Good. He needed to understand something. "She is my mate," I said, each word as sharp as a fang. "Your future, Luna. And the next time you imply she’s a threat to this pack, you and I will have a very different conversation." Rowan exhaled harshly. "I didn’t know." I growled, "Well, now you do." He nodded once, more respectfully this time. "Then you also need to know this—someone reported a break-in at her house. Her father is claiming she’s missing. And he’s not acting like a grieving parent, Luke. He’s furious. Hunting." My stomach dropped. -Her father. -The dungeon. - Her fear when I asked. I felt heat crawl up my spine, rage simmering beneath the surface. "If he comes anywhere near this territory—" "I know," Rowan said. "Just thought you’d want the warning." I gave a single curt nod and dismissed him with a glance. He turned and disappeared down the hall, leaving me alone with my boiling anger. My wolf was pacing, snarling, already planning ways to rip apart the man who had dared hurt her. But first, I needed to go back inside. I inhaled her scent—warm, sweet, intoxicating—and pushed open the door. She looked up instantly, concern flickering in her eyes. "Everything okay?" she asked quietly. I walked toward her, unable to hide the softness that replaced my anger the moment I saw her. "It will be," I said. "As long as you’re here." And this time, when I sat beside her, I didn’t pull away.
