Chapter1
The Journey.
“Hey, Aria?” Selene emerged out of the blue to distract Aria, who was busy with the house chores.
She hadn't spoken to Aria in that tone of voice before. This made Aria start wondering where she had gone wrong.
The last time she checked, she and Selene hadn't got into an argument the night before.
Selene had been the best thing that had ever happened to Aria since they lost their parents.
Born from the same father but with different mothers, yet act like inseparable twins.
“I'll always keep an eye on Aria,” that was Selene's vow on her father's deathbed.
And so far, she has lived up to the promise. But now? Aria couldn't seem to understand what spirit had possessed her dear sister.
She's being forced to believe that her sister might have been cloned.
“Is there a problem?” Aria asked nicely even when Selene was a bit harsh on her.
“What the heck are you talking about?” Selene ignored Aria's question to vent her frustration on her.
“I need you to abandon whatever you're doing now. We are heading to the bloodhound pack. I just secured a job for us at Alpha Raven's pack,” Selene announced. She said it with so much enthusiasm.
“The bloodhound pack?”
Selene's voice echoed back to her as she widened her mouth astonishingly in a fly-catching position. “But I don't recall saying I needed a job in Alpha Raven's pack,”
“Who cares about your opinion on this issue?” Selene snapped almost immediately.
Leaning towards Aria, she spoke calmly to ensure the words penetrated her ears, “I call the shots here. You don't get to decide for us,”
"One of his staff showed up yesterday and invited us over. We need the money to survive,” Selene buttresses further.
She's doing all she can to convince Aria, but it's just not working. Nothing ever made sense to Aria.
She has numerous questions in her head that she may not find answers to. Aria is more worried about the hectic journey that awaits her.
She has no intention of spending a few hours on the road even though they're not financially buoyant enough to afford the cheapest means of transportation to the bloodhound pack.
“I was home the whole day yesterday and no one showed up. Is there something you're not telling me?” Aria questioned the authenticity of Selene's information.
For the very first time in a while, she's finding it challenging to trust her sister. Selene hadn't said a word yet but her facial expressions had already sold her out.
“I owe you no explanation,”
Selene turned to the other direction to speak.
She knew it was just a matter of time before Aria figured her out.
“Go get dressed and get your things ready. We depart immediately.” She ordered Aria like her puppet before rushing inside.
She returned a few moments later to mount more pressure on Aria. “Why are you still staring at me?”
She strolled around Aria and sniffed her scent, “Damn it! You need a good bath. You stink. You don't want to choke the Alpha with your offensive odor, would you?”
“Noted!” Aria nodded in agreement.
She had no choice. She knew that arguing with Selene would be a complete waste of time.
Selene is resilient. It will require more than just brilliance to triumph over her.
Aria's once fat neck had suddenly become thin while her skin was gradually fading away like the evening sun.
She's barely twenty-three, yet appears older than her age due to the stress she's been subjected to.
With a wounded heart, Aria dashed back into the house to get cleaned up.
In a few minutes, she was outside looking slightly better than the last time. She had a small box filled with some clothes in her possession.
She would rather not dwell in the bloodhound pack for too long even though it's a thousand times better than the black pearl pack.
“This seems better than before.” Selene lauds Aria's outfit. That was the only time she was being nice to Aria.
She pushed Aria to the front and asked her to lead the way. The plan is to keep an eye on Aria to ensure she doesn't escape.
“I haven't been to the bloodhound pack before. How do I possibly lead the way?” Aria lamented.
She's done acting like a fool for Selene. Aria demanded that Selene stay in front while she followed her lead.
Selene was speechless. The sun was gradually rising. She knows how important this journey is to them, and she would rather not ruin it with her ego.
She obeyed Aria even when she never wanted to. In normal circumstances, Selene wouldn't have considered Aria's opinion.
Halfway through the bloodhound pack, Aria's bones started getting weaker. She hadn't attempted this long journey before in her life.
“This is suicide. I wish to return home,” Aria drops to the ground like a collapsed castle.
She is tired of pretending to be strong when her immune system is slowly failing. She leaned against a tree in the woods and pleaded for water.
It wasn't just her legs that were weaker, her voice was gradually fading too. She's worried that her vocal cords might be destroyed.
At this point, she's not scared of the possibility of being attacked by angry wolves. She just wants to go home.
“Stop being lazy, Aria. You're pulling us back. The bloodhound pack is just a few more walks from now. Do you wish to give up now?” Selene dishes out some words of motivation.
But to Aria, it sounded more like a threat.
