Chapter 10 — Pierce Beaumont
Later that evening, Clara stayed late organizing contracts.
Most employees had already left.
She walked toward the lounge area for coffee—
and froze.
Pierce sat casually on the counter holding two coffee cups.
“You work here too?”
Pierce smirked. “You sound offended.”
“You lied.”
“I omitted details.”
Typical rich man behavior.
He handed her coffee calmly.
“You left Velvet Room without saying goodbye.”
Clara looked away slightly. “So did your brother.”
Pierce’s expression changed briefly.
“Jace isn’t good at staying away from things he wants.”
The answer sent heat through Clara instantly.
Pierce studied her quietly.
“You know… I was interested in you first.”
Her breath caught.
“And then my brother walked in.”
The atmosphere shifted slightly after that.
Not uncomfortable.
But dangerous.
Because Pierce looked at her differently now.
Not casually.
Not harmlessly.
Like he genuinely wanted her.
Before Clara could respond, another voice interrupted.
“You’re still here.”
Jace.
Pierce smiled faintly without turning around. “Relax, brother. We’re discussing coffee.”
Jace’s eyes landed on Clara.
Then the coffee in her hand.
Then Pierce standing too close beside her.
The temperature in the room dropped instantly.
Lily later described it perfectly:
“It looked like two billionaires were seconds away from fighting over you.”
Unfortunately…
she wasn’t exaggerating.
