Best Friends Mated to Royalty

Chapter 8

After about five hours of driving we finally arrived at the pack territory. We drive up to the guard gate and roll down the window.

“Name and reason for being here?” The guard asks.

“Reese, Topaz, and King Conal, we are here for the birthday of Maya, sir.” Reese replies.

“Ah, the King! Very well.” The guard replies.

The gates open and we drive into the territory. Moon Cry Pack is one of the largest packs in the entire world next to my kingdom. They have a total of 1,500 pack members. They are a hard force to be reckoned with if anyone decides to start war. Everyone wants them as an ally. They have a great track record with their warriors as well. Next to the kingdom, Richard’s pack has some of the strongest warriors ever to walk this earth as werewolves. Moon Cry Pack truly is impressive, I must say I get jealous sometimes.

As we come up to the Moon Cry Pack house, I catch a glimpse of a girl. She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and she looks exactly like the girl in my dream. Dark wavy brown hair, green eyes with a gold ring, light olive skin, absolutely stunning. I want to know her name, and everything else about her. I want to get lost in those green eyes.

“King Conal!” I hear someone say. I look toward the voice and see it’s Alpha Richard.

“Richard! It’s a pleasure to be here. Drop the formalities, you are my dad’s best friend. We are as close as family.” I say.

He comes up to me and grabs me into a bear hug. When he lets me go he gestures to a woman standing next to him. I recognize her as his wife. I politely shake her hand.

“This is my son and heir to my pack, Devin.” He says while pointing to a young man that could be his twin. The only difference I see is Devin’s eyes are a lavender color. I shake his hand.

“This is my eldest daughter, Megan.” He says while pushing forward a petite blonde haired girl that looks exactly like her mother. I shake her hand as well.

“This is Maya, the birthday girl!” He says pointing behind me to the beautiful dark haired girl that has been in my dreams. I turn around and shake her hands. I shiver at the contact. Her hands are so warm and soft. I clumsily pull my hand away, as I pull myself out of a silly trance.

“This is Reese.” I say while pointing to Reese at my right side. “This is Topaz.” I say while pointing to Topaz on my left side. They both shake hands with the Alpha and Luna.

“I’ll take you to your rooms.” Maya said.

She walks into the pack house gesturing for us to follow her. She leads us up to the very top floor of the pack house. This is the nicest floor where the alpha and his family live. She leads us to three doors that are all next to each other.

“They all have a conjoined door if you need to use it.” She says as she walks away.

“Wow, this pack house is huge!” Reese says after Maya is out of earshot.

“They have one of the biggest and strongest packs in the country. Reese, of course this is going to be bigger than your average pack house.” Topaz replies with an eye roll.

“Alright, let’s spend some time relaxing. I think dinner is at seven.”

“Okay.” Both Reese and Topaz say before they head into their rooms

I head into mine too. I am shocked to see that my room is painted a deep shade of blue with gold accents. There is a huge California king bed in the middle of the room. Along with a closet taking up one entire wall. And there’s a huge tv taking up the other. On the fourth wall is a patio that leads out to a balcony. The bathroom has a huge jacuzzi tub that could easily fit two people and a shower that is boxed in with see through glass. Everything is super fancy. I wonder if Reese and Topaz have rooms that look like this.

I sigh and take off my shoes before I lay in bed.

“Oh soft as a feather.” I say to myself. My bed at home is a lot like this. I set some alarms before I lay down and pass out on the comfy mattress.

Maya’s POV

I set my pencil down. This is the last final exam I will have to take. After today, I am no longer a high school student. I will be an adult. I turn eighteen tomorrow and officially graduate the day after. In a few weeks, I will start my training to become an elite warrior. At this moment in time, I feel like my life has moved very fast and I am finally where I want to be.

I get up and bring my finished test to my teacher. She holds her hands out to take the test and I can see a smile on her face.

“Do great things.” She tells me.

“I will try my best.” I say with a tight smile of my own.

When you graduate school there’s always a pressure on you to do great things or to do better than your parents did. A lot of people end up failing because they know that they will never meet the expectations that everyone has for them. I, on the other hand, don’t care what everyone says. I am going to do my best and no matter what anyone says, I will succeed. Even if I choose not to continue warrior training I will be successful.

I head out of the school and wait in the front of the building for Alice to come out. We had the same schedule throughout the year so we have the same finals. I just need to wait for her to finish her tests and then we can go home. My parents texted me earlier letting me know that once I get home the king will be arriving so I need to get washed up and be on my best behavior. I roll my eyes. “Who would piss off the Lycan King? It’s a death sentence.” I think.

After waiting about thirty minutes I finally see Alice come out of the school. I climb down from the tree where I was waiting and run to her. “We are free!” I shout. “No more school!” I reach her and we lock arms and jump up and down “We are free! No more school!” We both shout over and over again while giggling like mad women.

When we finally have out screamed ourselves we start our trek home.

“So, the Lycan king is going to be coming today.” I say.

“Really? He’s staying overnight in the pack?” Alice questions.

“I guess so. My parents told me to shower and change when I get home to greet him.” I say.

“I’ll probably hide in my room. I don’t know about meeting royalty…. Who did he bring with him?” She says

“I’m not sure my parents didn’t say.” I say.

We get back to the pack house and go our separate ways. I have to get ready to meet the king and Alice said she just wants to be alone.

I run up to my room and take a shower. I dry off and walk into my room. I need something that looks nice. I pick out a burgundy maxi dress and a pair of black wedges to wear underneath. I apply some light makeup, foundation, mascara, blush, bronzer, and lip gloss. After I’m finished I put some leave-in conditioner in my hair as well as some wavy definer and quick dry spray. Now all I have to do is wait.

I go downstairs and walk outside. I think I’ll take a short walk before he gets here. I walk around the pack house not going very far in case he shows up. I watch until I see three black SUVs show up. That must be him. I start to make my way back to the pack house and I get there just in time to hear my dad say “This is the birthday girl, Maya” and point at me.

What I see when he turns around is not what I was expecting. I was expecting an older man with graying hair and wrinkles. When the king turned around I couldn’t breathe. He is so hot and handsome. He is everything I could ever see myself wanting in a man. Tall, broad, handsome, I can even see his eight pack through his shirt. “Oh god, I think I’m going to faint” I think to myself as I grab and shake his hand. Warm and rough. The feeling of his skin on mine makes me shiver with pleasure.

I hear him introduce his Beta and Gamma to my parents. My dad gives me a look that says spend more time with your guests. I internally groan, but I offer to show them to their rooms so they can rest before dinner.

I bring them up to their rooms, no one speaks at all and I show them which doors are theirs.

“They all have a conjoined door if you need to use it.” I say before I walk away. How stupid could I be?

Reese’s POV

I wasn’t tired. I’m not someone that likes to rest during the day. So, I left the room they assigned me and went to explore the grounds. Moon Cry Pack is a very large pack with a lot of things to do. I would like very much to explore the entire territory and join in some of the fun activities they have, but we are here for a purpose. To attend the birthday party of Alpha Richard's youngest daughter Maya. After that, we head home.

I am outside the training grounds when the mouth watering scent of chocolate chip cookies fills my nostrils.

“Mate!” My wolf screams in my head.

“What do you mean mate?” I ask.

“That’s the scent of mate. Follow it!” He screams again.

We have been waiting three years for our mate. Could this really be happening?

I follow the scent of chocolate chips into the training grounds. Each step I take the scent gets stronger and more mouth watering. I can’t wait to meet my beautiful mate.

I walk into the training grounds and look around to see if anyone in particular stands out. I scan every face in the room. I stop on a beautiful red headed girl with chocolate brown eyes that are mesmerizing and pale skin. She is so small, barely tall enough to meet my chest. I love it.

I take brisk strides over to the most beautiful girl in my eyes. When I reach her, I try to pull her into my arms but she steps back. When I look at her beautiful face it’s contorted in fear. I stop in my tracks.

“Mate! You're my mate!” I say. She whimpers, looking like she is about to cry.

“What’s your name, little mate?” I say. And she bursts into tears.

“Alice Jalen Paw, just reject me!” She yells and she starts sobbing. Whoever hurt her is going to pay. It hurts to see my little mate cry.

“I, Reese Obsidian Wilson, accept Alice Jalen Paw as my mate.” I say.

She stares at me with wide eyes hiccuping a few times.

“I.” *Hiccup* “Alice Jalen Paw accepts Reese Obsidian Wilson as my mate.” She says before she starts sobbing again.

I approach slowly this time. “Whoever hurt my baby is going to pay.” I think to myself. I crouch down beside her. “Can I hold you?” I ask with a gentle voice.

She continues to sob, but launches herself into my arms. I feel her tiny body and I am afraid to squeeze too hard. She is so tiny. I wonder if it’s genetics or if she was ab*sed.

I pick her up and she wraps her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck like a koala. I begin walking back to the pack house. “Whoever hurt you is going to pay. I’ll never let anyone hurt you again. I promise.” I say over and over again. No matter what I say she continues sobbing.

I decided to go straight to the alphas office and settle this right now.

“Conal, meet me outside Alpha Richards office! Now!” I nearly growl.

“You don’t give me orders!” He says back.

I growl viciously into the mind link. “Just f*****g do it!” I say.

“Okay, man.” He says.

I cut off the link without replying. Whoever hurt my mate dug their own grave.

As I come up to the office with a sobbing Alice in my arms, I see Conal waiting for me with a pissed expression on his face.

“What the hell? I am still your king! You called me down here to show me a crying child? I don’t- - -.” I growl at him, cutting him off mid sentence.

“Shut your f*****g mouth about my mate!” I scream at him with a growl rumbling out of my chest.

My best friend in the entire world looks at me stunned. “She is your mate?” He asks.

“Yes, and she hasn’t stopped sobbing since I found her. Something happened to hurt her and I want to know what! Are you going to help me or stand there with your big head I’m king b******t?”

“I’ll help.” He says with shame in his voice. He knocked on the office door.

“Come in.” We hear Alpha Richard say.

We both walk into the office and are met with a snarl. I look at who is the source of the snarl and see Devin, the future Alpha of Moon Cry.

“Get your hands off of my mate!” He screams at me. I can feel Alice hanging onto me for dear life. For being so small she sure has a tight grip.

“She’s not your mate! She is my mate!” I yell. I can hear Alice saying something I can’t understand. “What did you say baby?” And the response makes my blood boil. “H-he rej-jected m-me.” I snarl at Devin.

“You rejected her, she is mine! Stay away!” I snarl.

“Boys, let’s all take a deep breath. I have texted Maya to come here. She will be able to confirm the truth.” Alpha Richard says.

“Who is Maya?” I ask.

“She and Alice are best friends. If anyone knows what’s going on it would be Maya. I also mind linked her father and her brother. Let’s wait for them to get here.” Alpha Richard says.

“Okay.” I say.

Not even five minutes later three people come into the room. The girl that took us up to our rooms earlier, a guy that looks identical to Alice, and an older man that must be her father.

“Get your hands off of her!” The young girl shouts, I’m assuming it’s Maya.

“No, she’s my mate!” I growl.

Without warning this tiny chick with dark brown hair walks right up to me and slams her foot into my groin. With a groan I loosen my grip on Alice, and she is ripped from my hands by Maya. I drop to my knees with a growl trying to fight the pulsing pain coming from my groin.

I look over and see Conal standing there looking amused. He was supposed to be helping me!

“You're supposed to be helping me!” I scream over the mind link.

I see Conal chuckle.

“So, Maya, can you explain what’s going on?” Conal asks.

The boy who looks exactly like Alice speaks first.

“That idiot.” He points to Devin. “Rejected my sister the day they found each other on her birthday. After taking her virginity!” He screams.

I growl and snarl forgetting about the pain in my groin. I’m on my feet. I run forward and slam Devin’s head into the wall and punch him repeatedly. I feel Conal trying to stop me. I elbow him in the face. This guy, he had s*x with my mate and then rejected her. Conal expects me not to kill him. He is so wrong.

“Stop!” Conal shouts using his tone. As much as I don’t want to obey, I have no choice. I glare daggers at him and am satisfied to see his nose bleeding from where I elbowed him.

“Everyone, sit down.” He also uses his tone. I am forced to let go of Devin and sit down. Everyone in the room takes a seat on the floor. I notice Alice is sitting in Maya’s lap.

“So, let me get this straight. Devin, you rejected Alice?” He says.

“Yes.” He responds

“Why?” Conal asks

“She is a beta, not worthy of being a Luna.” He responds with a shrug.

I growl at him but I can’t get off of the floor because of the command. Who does he think he is to reject her because she is a beta. Your mate is your mate.

“Reese, Alice is your mate?” Conal asks.

“Yes.” I respond.

“Alice, is Reese your mate?” Conal asks.

“Yes.” She replies and a tear runs down her cheek. Maya wipes them away.

“Do you want him as your mate?” Conal asks.

“Yes, I would like a mate.” She replies putting her head down.

“Then it is set. We will give Reese and Alice a chance to be together.” Conal replies. “Devin, you do not have the right to interfere or challenge. That’s final. Everyone is dismissed.” Conal says in his tone.

Everyone begins to get up from the floor and leave. The only people left in the room are me, Conal, Alice, Maya, and the boy who looks like Alice. The boy who looks like Alice begins to approach me.

“If you ever hurt my sister I will not hesitate to kill you! If you're not serious about having a mate and taking care of your mate with your life, walk away.” He says with anger in his voice.

“I will do everything in my power to keep her happy and I would risk my life for her safety. I will treat her like the princess she deserves to be treated like.” I tell him.

“Good.” He holds out his hand to me. “My name is Axel and I’m Alice’s twin brother.” Axel says.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” I tell him.

Everyone leaves except for me and Alice.

“You're beautiful.” I tell her.

She jumps on me and slams her lips onto mine.

“She tastes so good!” My wolf and I think.

Alice’s POV

I lay in my bed trying to decide what to do with myself today. Maya will be busy with her family all day greeting the king and the rest of the guests who arrive for the party.

“We could train.” Sapphire squeals in my head.

“Without Maya?” I ask.

“Most definitely. Can we train? Please?” Sapphire asks.

“Fine!” I say.

I get up from my bed and change into a pair of black spandex shorts and a pink sports bra. I throw on some back running shoes and put my hair into a tiny ponytail at the base of my neck. I grab my phone and I run downstairs and all the way to the training grounds. It’s a good warm up at least.

I arrive at the training grounds and look around to see what I want to do. Since it’s not an actual time to train I am free to do whatever I want to. I find a dummy and begin to spare with it. I punch, kick, elbow, and knee the dummy until I am sweaty and out of breath. I gulp in breaths of air preparing to go for another round when the decadent scent of mint reaches my nose making me weak in the knees.

“Oh no!” I think to myself not another mate.

I turn around preparing myself for a rejection. I spot a man that is way more handsome than Devin. I flinch. I don’t know if I will survive a second rejection. He comes toward me and tries to reach for me. I burst into tears and back away. “Oh Moon Goddess why?” I think to myself

“Mate. You're my mate!” He says.

“What’s your name, little mate?” He asked me.

“Alice Jalen Paw, just reject me!” I scream I just want this nightmare to be over. I burst into tears. Why can’t I just be happy?

“I, Reese Obsidian Wilson, accept Alice Jalen Paw as my mate.” He says.

My eyes get as big as saucers. Does he accept me? “Thank the Moon Goddess”. I burst into uncontrollable sobs. I need to accept him. If he is my second chance I need to accept him.

“I, Alice Jalen Paw, accept Reese Obsidian Wilson as my mate.” I say to him in between hiccups.

He comes toward me speaking sweet words of reassurance toward me. The scent of mint overwhelms my senses and makes me want to be held by him.

When he asks to hold me, I don’t hold back. I launch myself into his arms and wrap myself around him. The scent of mint is overpowering, but it calms my racing fearful heart.

There are so many questions running through my head. Will Reese be different from Devin? Will he change his mind about me once he finds out that I’m no longer pure? Will he be the mate I dreamed of? Or will he be the mate that Devin was?

I am so overwhelmed with questions in my mind, but I decide to wait until later to bring up any of my burdens. I cling to him wherever he is taking me and I pray to the Moon Goddess that he treats me the way I want.

We have been walking for a little while so I stir a bit in his arms. I wanna know where he is taking me. I see we are walking toward the Alpha’s office. I wonder why? As we come up to the office I see a tall masculine man leaning beside the door. He is giving off an extremely powerful aura of power and dominance. I shrink back into Reese’s chest and allow the scent of mint to lure me back into comfort.

I can hear the man yelling at Reese about being disrespectful and calling me a child. To my surprise, I hear Reese growl at the man and protect me. Maybe the Moon Goddess blessed me with a second chance mate that will be from my dreams. I cuddle into Reese’s chest. Even if it’s just for a few hours I want to be as happy as I can be with my mate.

I feel myself ripped out of Reese’s arms and almost cry out until I realize it’s just Maya. “Oh my protective best friend. What would I ever do without you?” I think to myself.

Everyone is silenced by the king.

A fight breaks out between my former mate and my current one. Reese would have killed Devin if it wasn’t for the king having used a Royal tone on him. I am secretly grateful that I found myself a mate who is willing to protect me.

After making everyone sit down. The king asks to have confirmation that we are mates and I was truly rejected by my first mate. Why would Devin reject me and then try to claim me when I finally have the chance to be happy?

“Because he’s jealous!” Sapphire yells in my head.

“If he was going to be jealous, why did he reject me in the first place? Why wouldn’t he just finish claiming me with his mark and keep me by his side?”

I am pulled out of my thoughts when the king dismisses everyone. Everyone leaves except for me, my brother, Maya, Conal, and Reese. My brother, being the protective big brother that he is, tells Reese that unless he is willing to protect me with his life then he needs to end it now. Tears start streaming down my face from the thought of him dying and from the thought of him leaving. I can’t imagine doing anything without him now that I have him.

I feel this bond is stronger than the last bond. Maybe this bond is the true bond and the first one was a mistake…..

I almost faint when Reese tells my brother that he would risk dying just for me. It breaks my heart to think of him dying, but it also makes me so happy to hear he loves me enough to protect me with his life.

Everyone leaves after my brother finishes talking to my new mate. I see Maya wink at me from the doorway and mouth “I want details!” Before she disappears down the hall.

Immediately when the last person leaves I slam my lips onto his. My body has been craving him since the first time I smelt his delectable scent of mint. It’s alluring. Each time it will trap me.
