Chapter 1
Maya’s POV
It is dark out, the only light is coming from the moon. Maya is walking through the woods looking for the beautiful lake her mother used to take her and her brother to. By far, this lake was her favorite place to spend her summer days spending time with her family.
Maya, at a young age, decided to name this lake Moon Lake. Her decision was solely because on a moonlit night the water appears dark blue, so blue you would think it was a never ending pit, but upon closer inspection it shows the reflection of images like that of a mirror. A beautiful blue mirror.
Tonight is an absurdly hot and humid night. If you walk outside for even the shortest amount of time, your clothes will begin to stick to you and the air becomes harder to take in. During the day, training in the hot sun proves brutal. Many warriors find training difficult, some can’t make it through the day's session. But, at night, the sun disappears from view and it cools down. Not enough to be pleasant, but enough to be bearable.
Maya is hoping to find some relief from the hot and humid night swimming in the beautiful blue water of Moon Lake. As the lake comes into view, the memories of the cool water lapping at her bare skin tempts her to move faster.
She freezes when she spots a beautiful black wolf enjoying the cool water of Moon Lake. The scent tells her it’s not a rogue, but it’s not someone from her pack either. She would remember a wolf like that, it seems to be…. abnormally large. This mysterious wolf doesn’t seem to have sensed her presence yet. She figures the guards would know if an intruder was in the pack. She decides to give up her plans of swimming that night and let the wolf have fun. Just before she disappears through the woods the wolf looks back at her. They lock eyes and she finds herself deeply lost in the beautiful eyes of a wolf she doesn’t know.
BEEEEEP, BEEEEEP, BEEEEEP! The sound of an alarm clock jolts Maya out of the beautiful dream she was having. She curses herself for dreaming of the black wolf again. You see, she has been having this same dream for the last three months. It’s beginning to make her wonder who the man behind the wolf is.
At 17 years old Maya is in her last two weeks of high school. Attending at Moon Cry High School, she is an Alpha's daughter, but that doesn’t make her the most popular girl at school. Maya is not interested in dressing in tiny skirts, skin tight dresses, heels high enough to break your neck, or any clothes the “popular” girls wear.
Unlike all the popular girls, she wouldn’t be caught dead making out in the hall or sleeping with the hottest guys on the football team. Her dad would kill her if he caught her with a guy before she meets her mate. She wants to wait for her fated mate anyway. She wants him to be all of her firsts.
She has more important things to think about anyway. She is training to be an elite warrior. That is her main focus. She wants to do everything in her power to keep her pack safe and make her family proud.
Although, I am sickly aware of my chances to be mated to a high ranking alpha. That’s the last thing I would ever want is to be mated to some meat head of a man. No training or fighting, just planning parties and having tea with the other Lunas. I roll my eyes at the thought.
I throw the covers to the side and hear. the ear piercing voice of my mother yelling, “MAYA GET UP YOUR GOING TO BE LATE” I don’t respond and just roll my eyes. Getting out of bed, I pick out a simple pair of black leggings and a dark purple crop top to wear. Going into the bathroom, next to my room, I take a quick shower. I start to dry off with a towel when I take a second to admire my body. The moon Goddess gave me a nice curvy body. I wouldn’t consider myself fat, but I do have nice curves. At 5 foot 4 inches, the Moon Goddess gave me double D boobs, a flat stomach, a round butt, and toned thighs and legs. Given, all of the toning was done because of my brutal daily training regimen.
At a young age I expressed to my parents my will to train to be a warrior. My father was more than happy to indulge me, telling me that the safety of his family and his pack was top priority. My mother was reluctant to let me train. She doesn’t think it's very feminine. But, after some convincing she agreed my safety was more important than being feminine. So, at the age of seven I started training. Now, at seventeen, I am one of the most deadly warriors in the pack
I wipe off the mirror and I see my green eyes gleaming back at me. My eyes aren’t normal for a werewolf. They are shaped like almonds and are a deep emerald green with a shiny gold ring around them. I personally think that my eyes are my best feature. My lips are plump and a light pink color. My complexion is that of my fathers, light olive skin. I also have long, dark brown wavy hair that reaches down to my waist.
I am running out of time to get downstairs. If I don’t hurry I won’t be able to get something to eat. If there is one thing I love besides training, it’s food. I love eating food and making food. My family always teases me about how I’m not the size of a house. I eat so much. I even eat more than my older brother, and that’s saying something. Oftentimes, at meals, the fellow pack members just stare at us in awe not believing we are able to consume the food that we do. I giggle at the thought.
I grab my bag running out of my room and down the stairs. My family, being the alpha family, gets to stay in the very top floor of the pack house. Each floor has different people staying on it, and room for guests. The top being the floor housing higher ranking pack members, and the bottom housing the omegas and all of the facilities we could need.
Once I am downstairs I make my way to the dining room. Here everyone in the pack house gathers to eat. The omegas make us delicious meals everyday and we enjoy it with our friends and family.
I spot my best friend, Alice. She is training to be a warrior like I am. She is the Beta’s daughter and one of the very few people that can match me in training. I make my way over to where she is sitting, and I see the majority of the warriors we train with. It makes sense since Alice and I are good friends with the majority of the warriors.
Arriving at the table, I check the clock and realize I don’t have time for breakfast. My mood tanks a little bit since food is one of the best parts of the day, but Alice taps me on the shoulder and hands me a slice of toast with peanut butter and honey on it. My favorite!
“Oh my God! You're a lifesaver!” I scream while giving her a hug. Everyone is staring at us but I don’t care.
“Yeah, yeah, you should come down on time for breakfast.” Alice says while sticking her tongue out at me. Grabbing her bag, she announces that it’s time to go.
We make our way out of the dining hall. I’m munching on my toast while Alice is texting someone on her phone as she is walking.
“Hey, are we still going to have a sleepover tonight?” Alice finally looks up from her phone and asks.
“Definitely! Are you gonna give me all of the juicy details of who you are texting?”
My best friend turns bright red in the face and doesn’t respond. I shove her playfully with a little laugh and she shoves me back. Soon enough we are both giggling chasing each other around.
Making it to the school, we both sigh. Being an alpha's daughter and Alice being a beta’s daughter require us to attend special classes that prepare us for our future mates. We will either have alphas or betas as mates. Although, rarely seen, we could have an omega or a regular pack member. But, we still have to attend classes that teach us about the future duties we may have to do. These classes are often long and boring and not even all that accurate. Duties of the beta and Luna often change depending on what pack you go to.
“This is pointless. “ I groan
“Agreed.” Alice says
We walk together to our home room class and find our seats waiting for the teacher to begin today's lecture.
