Alice’s POV

I slam my lips into his. He has plump lips for a man. At first he seems shocked at my actions and doesn’t kiss me back, but after a few seconds he seems to come to his senses.

When he kisses me, my mind feels like it’s been blown away and my entire body turns to jello. This never ever happened with Devin. The sparks that are shooting through my body make their way straight to my core. Each time he puts a finger on my body even if it’s just a graze. Ignites a fire within me. Strong pleasurable sparks follow his every move.

As his lips are on mine, I feel tingles in my lips. He kisses me back passionately and gently. Like he would take an entire day just to kiss me. Even though it’s our first kiss he is telling me so much with such a simple action. He is promising to be gentle and kind. Passionate instead of rough. It’s amazing how much I can read his mind and every move just from one action.

It feels like I have known the man my entire life even though we only met an hour ago. He is making so much desire burn through me. I wish I could never leave his arms. His presence is a thing of pure love. I can feel with every part of my being that he loves me. It’s truly an experience.

All too soon he pulls away.

“I want to take you on a date and get to know you before I take you to my bed. After all, I do pride myself in being a gentleman.” I hear his husky voice ask me. It’s like I am in a trance. I can’t talk or move. The only thing I can think about is his voice and the way his lips felt on mine.

“Hey? Are you alright?” He asks with worry in his beautiful eyes.

“Y-yeah, I’m ok.” I respond

“Will you go on a date with me?” He asks once again, getting excited and his eyes begin to twinkle.

“I - um, can we go to the birthday celebration tomorrow as date?” I ask. I'm nervous he will think this is a silly idea.

“Absolutely, I look forward to it.” He beams at me.

“Oh my lord this man is going to be the end of me.” I think to myself. Inside my head there’s Sapphire fanning herself with her puffy tail for dramatic effect.

“Bad, horny wolf. No more s*x until we find out if he truly wants us.”

Her tail goes between her legs and she stalks off into the back of my mind.

“I’ll walk you to your room.” He says as he grabs my hand.

I almost swoon. He’s such a gentleman. Why couldn’t my first mate have been like this?

As we walk to my room on the Beta floor he asks me tons of questions. Where am I from? What is it that I like to do? What is my favorite color?

He is doing all of the things that a mate should do and I am extremely happy to have gotten a second chance at being a mated woman.

Reese’s POV

I was surprised at first to have her kiss me first. But, it only took me a few seconds before I kissed this beautiful woman back with as much passion as I could muster up. After hearing what her previous mate did to her I only wanted her to have the best. I wanted to be the best version of me just for her. I kissed her gently and poured every emotion I had into it.

I wanted her to have a proper relationship and I wanted her to feel that everything she does means something to me. As much as I wanted to bring this woman to my bed, I also wanted her to be a pampered princess. I wanted to give her the entire world. So, instead of taking her up to my room in the Alpha suite, I decided I wanted to wait a little while to mark and mate my beautiful mate. I want to take the time to give her a great experience and make her feel how truly great a mate bond is.

“Will you go on a date with me?” She stands there with a dazed look on her face and doesn’t respond. So I asked her again.

“Will you go on a date with me?” This time I get a shy response and it’s a yes! She said yes! I do a happy dance in my head along with my wolf Ember.

“We can go to the birthday celebration together.” She shyly responds.

“That’s a great idea!” I think to myself

“Absolutely, I look forward to it!” I say to her and see a blush creep up on her pale little cheeks.

“I’ll walk you to your room.” I say after all I am a true gentleman. My wolf is going crazy happy in my head running around and wagging his tail. He was so happy that he found his mate.

As we walk I decide I want to get to know my perfect little mate better.

“Where are you from?” I ask.

“Born and raised in Moon Cry. I am Beta’s daughter.” She responded.

“I am a Beta myself. The Royal Beta.” I told her.

“You're the king's Beta?” I ask with wide eyes.

“I am. You will be a Beta female.” I say with a smile.

Alice’s POV

“Holy crap! I’m going to be part of the Royal family! And I’ll train in the guard as a Beta Female! This is my dream come true!” I think to myself. He continues to ask me a few more questions, but my mind is still stuck on the Beta female part. Maya is going to flip when she finds out!

We finally reached her room.

“I’ll pick you up at noon. We can go somewhere to eat before the party.” He says.

“Okay.”

We part ways with a kiss.

I go into my bedroom and I almost piss my pants in fright.

“How’d it go!?” Maya shouts from the bed.

“You b***h! You scared the pee out of me!” I scream back laughing so hard I cry.

“Well, how’d it go?” She asks again.

“It was wonderful. He is the exact opposite of Devin. He wants to take me on a date and he doesn’t want to mate until I’m comfortable. He is trying so hard to be a great mate!” I tell her as I fall onto the bed next to her.

“Good, only the best for my best friend! What Devin did is still so stupid!” Maya screams.

“I think Reese is supposed to be my fated mate. Everything feels stronger with him. The sparks, the emotions, the need to be with him, even his scent is stronger than Devin’s was. I think the Moon Goddess truly meant for me and Reese to me together.” I tell her.

“I don’t know hun. At least you found a mate that is willing to love you.” She tells me.

“Do you think you will find your mate tomorrow?” I ask

“I hope so..” she replies with a sad sigh

Alice’s POV

I woke up the morning of Maya’s birthday excited for my date. I jump out of bed and I run into the bathroom for a hot shower. When I am done I dry off and wrap myself in a fluffy robe. I go into the bedroom to work on getting ready.

I do my makeup with a very small amount of makeup. Light tan eyeshadow, foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, highlighter, mascara, and finally a tan lipstick with a little bit of lip oil on top.

I ran into the closet and got the dress that was specially made for Maya's birthday. It’s a baby pink knee length dress. It has a tight corset top and a flowery skirt. Other than that it is very plain. I attach a pair of pink wedges to my feet along with a rose gold paw print chain that has diamonds encrusted in the paw print part of it. I also attach a matching bracelet to my wrist. I put my hair in an elegant bun at the base of my neck. I use some faux hair to achieve this look because my hair is annoyingly short. I pull out a few strands of hair to frame my face and I curl them a little bit. I add some rose gold pins in my hair that have a paw print attached to the top.

I examine myself in the mirror.

“Is this too much for a first date?” I think to myself.

“You look perfect! Plus we have to be ready to go to Maya’s party after our lunch date. I think you look beautiful for both!” Sapphire says.

I spend a little more time examining myself in the mirror. After I am satisfied that I look decent I go downstairs to go for a walk to calm my nerves. I still have a little while before my date and sitting around in my room is only going to cause me to be super anxious. I walk around some of the trails in Moon Cry Pack. I have always enjoyed how each house is decorated by the person who lives in it. You can see a personality coming out no matter where you look. Each house is always going to be different and it will reflect the traits of the family that lives in the home.

When the clock hits eleven thirty I make my way back to the pack house and up to my room. I sit on my bed and wait for my Prince Charming to arrive. I look around my bedroom and I immediately see my own personality in it. The walls are a light shade of pink from when I was younger and super into the color. I see so many pictures of me and Maya during every event or adventure that we have ever taken in our life. When we went to the waterpark in pack territory there's a few pictures of us sopping wet and freezing. There are pictures from when we went on nature hikes before we had our wolves. I see pictures of me and Axel during each of our birthdays. I have pictures hanging up of my dad, Axel and I. I also have a few pictures of my father when he first met my mom. I have never known my mom, but her and my dad always looked so happy together.

I am examining the pictures lining my room and thinking of all the happy memories I have had in my life. I am truly a lucky person to have all the things in my life that I do.

I hear a knock on the door just as the clock strikes noon. I slowly walk to the door and take a deep breath in. This will be the first official date I have ever been on. I have never dated or gone out afraid to get attached. I didn’t want to give my purity to anyone besides my mate. I guess all of my trying was a lost effort.

I let out my breath of air and pulled my door open. On the other side, the most perfect man in existence stands straight up. In one of his hands he holds a huge bouquet of white roses, and on the other hand he holds a small box of chocolates.

Tears cling to my eyes at the sight before me.

“Could I have possibly ever gotten a better second chance? He seems to be better than my original mate so far!” I think to myself. Sapphire is in the back of my head wagging her tail and trotting around. She is so proud that Reese and Ember are her mates. She wants to claim them.

“I told you the Moon Goddess had a different plan for us!” she says.

“You look beautiful!” Reese says. “These are for you!” He thrusts both the flowers and the chocolate toward me.

“They are lovely!” I say as I take the gifts into my room and lay them gently on the bed.

“White roses are my favorite flower, you know!” I tell my very handsome mate.

“Really? I guess it was just a lucky guess.” He tells me with a grin.

“Are you ready to go to lunch?” he asks while he interlocks his fingers with mine.”

“Very, I am starving!” I laugh.

We make our way out of my bedroom while holding hands the entire time. We don’t speak as he leads me to a dark green dodge charger.

“You have a nice car!” I laughed at him. Seriously though, it really is a nice car.

“Being a Royal Beta proves to pay well. And, well, I fancy myself a nice car! I have no shame about it!” He laughs with me.

He opens the door so I can climb in. The entire inside is covered in thick black leather. I am lost in my own world examining the car while he gets in the driver's seat and we take off.

“Like what you see?” He asks with a laugh.

“It's very nice. We have never had a nice car like this!”

“I’m glad you like it!” He says and then we both fall silent

A little while into the drive I start to point out different activities the pack offers. I also point out different landmarks to him and explain some history behind them. Moon Cry Pack, being one of the largest in the kingdom, has fought in countless wars. Because of our history, we have plenty of honorary statues of powerful wolves. They all have played a role in defeating the enemy and making sure we can live in the peace we have today.

After about a thirty minute drive we came across a very fancy restaurant. The Moon Wolf. I have never been in a restaurant before. It is the top restaurant in Moon Cry Pack. Many young men take their girlfriends for prom or Valentine’s Day. I am truly touched that he would think of taking me here.

Reese gets out of the vehicle and walks over to my side. He opens my door for me. He also holds a hand out to help me out of the car as well.

“Our mate is such a gentleman!” Sapphire is squealing in my head.

I internally roll my eyes.

“Sapphire, this is how men are supposed to treat their mates. What Devin did is what you're not supposed to do.” I tell her with a sigh.

My wolf just responds with a whimper. Even though Devin was cruel to me, somehow Sapphire saw love in him. Now we have Reese and she still feels the loss of her first mate at times.

“You okay?” Reese asks with a worried look on his face.

“Yeah, I’m great! My wolf and I are just talking about how different you are from Devin. All in a good way!” I reassure him.

“I only want the best for my princess.” He says. After lifting my hand up to his lips and kissing it. He interlocks our fingers together and we begin walking into the fancy restaurant.

As we enter the restaurant, my eyes nearly pop out of my head. I was expecting fancy, but not extravagant. The entire restaurant is painted in white with gold trim and silver light structures. Every light structure is a twelve light chandelier with dim light bulbs. The way the light projects into the restaurant gives off an atmosphere of soft and romantic. Each table is round and covered in a white tablecloth with gold trim. Each having a vase in the center of the table with a single white rose in it. Every waiter is dressed in a black plaid or jeans and a white shirt with a black tie.

We walked up to the huge white desk in the front of the restaurant. Behind it sits a woman maybe in her early twenties. She wears the same clothes as every other worker, but she has a face with caked on makeup. In a sing-song voice she asks us “Do you have a reservation?” She laps her lips and looks Reese from head to toe practically eye f*****g him right in front of me. Sapphire is growling at her in my head. I am trying to reign in my anger. “How dare she look at MY mate like that?” I think to myself.

On the outside I use one of my hands to grab Reese’s arm and lean my head on his bicep. With the other hands I take it and place it on his stomach. So I am hugging one entire side of his body. Due to my small stature this is all I can manage.

I feel Reese let out a small chuckle.

“Protective are we?” He asks.

“You're my mate. I don’t appreciate another woman looking at you like you're a snack!” I snap back at him.

Once again my mate chuckles at me. I feel his arm snake around me from behind and pull me flush against his body. When I look up at him to tell him to let me go, he slams his lips onto mine. Right in front of everyone! When he finally releases me from his passionate kiss, the girl behind the desk is fuming.

She grabs two menus from the stack at her right and snaps a quick “follow me!” To us. She stomps out from behind the desk and to a small table in the corner of the room. Someone will be with you shortly. She says while slapping the menus down on the table.

“Actually, I would like a Coke. Thanks!” Reese says, addressing the waitress. Then he turns to me. “What would you like to drink baby?” He asks.

“I’ll have a sprite with some strawberries in it!” I told the waitress.

She stomps off to the kitchen. When she is out of ear shot I let out a giggle.

“I only have eyes for you, my beautiful princess.” Reese says while kissing my hand again. His eyes are full of so much love. I could drown just by looking into them.

“I only have eyes for you, my prince.” I told him. I try to reciprocate the amount of love he is showing me. Even though we are in a room full of beautiful women he has eyes only for me.

“Thank you Moon Goddess!” I scream in my head.

After a good ten minutes the girl comes back with our drinks. She places Reese’s coke down in front of him taking great care not to spill it. However, when it comes time to give me my drink. She slams it down so it sloshes out of the glass and drenches the table cloth. Almost getting on my custom made dress for the party.

Within a second Reese is on his feet.

“How dare you disrespect the Royal Beta Female!” He shouts.

The waitress trips and falls over in her haste to get away from my screaming mate. Now she is cowering on the floor due to my mates anger being directed at her.

“You will have respect for every member of the Royal family! Do you understand?” Reese screams using his Beta tone.

“Y-y-y-yessss si-r-r.” The floor waitress mutters.

“Apologize to my mate! And your Beta Female!” He screams again using his beta tone.

“I-I’m sor-r-ry.” She stammers again.

“Now go! I want a different waitress! One who is respectable!”

The poor girl scrambled to get up from the floor, slipping and falling several times before succeeding in standing up. She runs into a door labeled employees only. Behind the door we can hear her sobbing.

Reese sits down looking very satisfied with himself. Not even two minutes later we are being ushered to a different table with a new table cloth and fresh drinks. The new waiter hands us each a new menu and lists off all of the items included in today's specials. He leaves to give us a couple of minutes to look over the menus.

I look over at my very handsome mate.

“You didn’t have to do that. I could have dealt with some soda spilt.” I say in a small voice.

At first he looks at me with hard eyes and an expression on his face that screams he is going to reject me. But, after a few seconds he sighs and his eyes soften.

“Yes, I did have to do that. First and most importantly you are my mate and no one disrespects my mate. She did not spill that soda on accident. She did it on purpose as an attempt to humiliate you. She has had a bad attitude since we walked in. It’s my job as your mate to protect you. Second, you are now of Royal status. To disrespect you, even in the smallest of infractions, is to disrespect the entire Royal family. To let something petty like that slide would be a signal to everyone that we are weak. Conal would have done the same thing I did if he was here right now. Possibly worse. You are now a Royal and you will be treated as such by the public. Punishment will be dealt to anyone who undermines you and your authority.” He explained it to me.

I sit for a few minutes letting his information sink in. I am a Royal Beta Female. I demand respect.

“It’s going to take some getting used to. I have just been a Beta’s daughter my entire life. I don’t know the first thing about being a Royal Beta Female.” I told him.

“Don’t worry too much baby. I will teach you everything you need to know. Just don’t let anyone walk all over you okay?” He says.

“Okay.” I responded.

Just as we finish our conversation the waiter comes back to take our orders. Reese orders a T-bone steak and French fries. I ordered Alfredo with feta cheese on top. The waiter takes our menus and excuses himself.

“So, when we get to the palace, what will be my duties?” I ask Reese.

“You will first have to complete beta training. It’s about two months of warrior training and knowledge training. You will learn in your first two months the structure of the Royal family, the underground prison system, the borders and all of the weaknesses, and about how to serve the Royal family. It’s not much different than what you have been taught in your regular school classes, but it is all pertaining to the kingdom. Every single thing you learn in Royal Beta training is going to be top secret. Only the Royal family knows about it and will know about it. Telling anyone would be to put thousands of lives at risk.” Reese says with a serious tone to his voice.

“Okay, what will be my duties once I complete my training?” I ask.

“You will be asked to do many things. Your job isn’t going to be the same everyday. You will be in charge of training warriors, taking care of prisoners, patrolling the borders, keeping order within the smaller packs of the kingdom, taking care of anything the king or queen as of you, leading a war next to our king and queen if one should arise. You can also be asked to do small tasks the king and queen trust you with like helping with paperwork, escorting an important guest to and from places, bringing meals to their quarters, and many other things. It depends on the mood of the king and queen and all of the things that need to get done.” Reese tells me.

I laugh “So I can do anything from mopping floors and babysitting to leading a war?” I ask.

“Pretty much. Your job will be tiring but rewarding.” He tells me.

“You know I’ve always looked forward to being a warrior. My goal after I graduated was going to be to join the Royal Guard.” I say.

It’s his turn to laugh at me. “Baby, you will be doing everything you dreamed of and way way more!”

“How’d you get the job to be the Royal Beta?” I ask.

“I was good friends with King Conal my entire life. From the time we could walk we were best friends, inseparable. When it came time to be sworn in as King. Conal decided that he wanted me to be his Beta. He was taught by the previous king that in order to reach his highest potential as king he needed to have a Beta and Gamma that he could trust with his life. Along with a supportive trustworthy family, he would be indestructible.” He tells me.

“The king seems like an interesting guy. Most people just accept whoever is next in line for the title and make it work.” I say.

“Conal is a good man and a good king.” Reese tells me.

“So who's his mate?” I ask.

“He hasn’t found our queen yet.” Reese says with an air of sadness.

“I’m sure he will find her soon. The Moon Goddess always has a plan.” I tell him with a smile.

“That she does.” He tells me, flashing me a smile that ignites a fire within me.

We finish up our food.

“Do you want dessert?” Reese asks.

“No, we will be stuffed with birthday cake later!” I laugh.

“Whatever you say, my beautiful princess.” Reese says with a playful roll of his eyes.

Reese stands up and pays for all of the food and drinks. He leaves an eye poppingly large tip for our waiter. He grabs my hand once again, interlocking our fingers and kissing the back of my hand. He leads me out of the restaurant and back to his fancy car.

“Wow, that was an amazing first date.” I think to myself while I get myself buckled into the car.

“We have a party to get to!” Reese yells.

He speeds out of the parking lot doing a couple of donuts around a light pole. I am giggling uncontrollably. Then we are back on our way to the party.
