Best Friends Mated to Royalty

Chapter 12

Finally awake and aware of what’s going on, Maya gasps and grabs the blanket pulling it to cover her body again. I just stare daggers. The disrespect coming from my own mate is painful to bear.

“How dare you! Explain yourself!” I yell in my king tone.

“What?” My mate asks. She seems confused.

“Explain yourself!” I shout again in my king tone.

This time she winces at the sound of my voice. I haven’t marked or mated her. My king tone should still affect her.

“I-I-I donnn-t know w-w-what you wan-t-t.” She stutters.

“You do! Answer me! Last chance!” I yell in my king tone.

Not a word escapes her lips. She shutters and cries out in pain. She’s fighting the command.

I find myself getting angrier by the second. What’s wrong with her?

“What the h**l did you do it to her?” Reese’s mate shouts.

I turn my blazing anger on her.

“What did I do? Me? What did you two do?” I scream in my tone at my betas mate.

Her eyes flicker from shock to understanding. Finally they end in blazing fury, this tiny girl straightens her back and looks me dead in the eye.

“We did nothing you are implying we did! We are best friends! We talk about absolutely everything! If my friend is having a hard time because of life shattering news she heard not even TWENTY FOUR HOURS AGO. I am going to come and talk to her and comfort her! Nothing s****l has EVER happened between us. EVER!” She’s panting by the time she is done yelling at me but I could care less.

“You think you have the right to talk to the king that way?” I get cut off before I can say more.

“You call yourself a king? Your mate is in the corner crying because of a command YOU put her under! Kingly? I think not! You're here accusing her of things she never did! Violently I might add. How is it going to be when you are living in the same house and someone accuses her of something? Huh? Head on the chopping block?” She screams. Her eyes of betraying her wolf are coming forward.

“I would never! I couldn’t put her in pain!” I yell.

“Really? Really! Look at your work! She’s already in pain! Release her from your dumb command! You are equals!”

I look over at my beautiful mate. Curled in a ball in the corner whimpering in pain. Tears streaming down her face because she is physically unable to give me the answer I seek.

I let go of the power I have been holding on to. The command snaps and Maya plops over on her side with a breath of relief. Finally the pain is over.

I take a step toward her to comfort my beautiful mate. I am blocked by a tiny angry beta female.

“Don’t you dare! Not after what you have done!” She shouts.

I went to shove her out of the way, but with speed and skill I didn’t think she had. She slams her knee into my family jewels and brings her palm up to break my nose at the same time.

I stagger backward not having expected the fight a little she wolf could bring. A growl escapes me and I go to attack my best friend's mate. But the sweetest voice I have ever heard stops me in my tracks.

“I, Maya Matthews, reject Conal as my mate.”

I look over to where my mate is and everything in my entire world stops. A pain I never thought would happen to me is in my heart.

“I don’t accept your rejection.” I say to my mate.

“What do you mean? We have to wait until the full moon for the ties to be cut completely then.” She says in frustration.

“You can’t break the bond between yourself and a stronger mate. I am a higher rank than you so only I can break the bond.” I say with pain in my voice.

“Break the bond then! Reject me!” She screams at me.

I take a step toward the bed but she moves back. I try stepping toward the bed again and she moves back again. I stop and look into her eyes.

“I will never reject you. You are mine!” I say in a forceful voice.

“Get out!” My beautiful mate screams.

I turn around to leave, but before I do I look at Reese and Topaz.

“Figure out who takes the first shift and go from there.” I tell them on the way to the door.

“First shift? What am I? A prisoner?” Maya snaps at me.

“You are now a very important person. You will have a guard with you 24/7. Reese, Topaz, or myself.” I say before I walk through the threshold of the door.

“I don’t want you near me!” Is the last thing I hear my beautiful mate shout before I walk down the hall.

I go back to my bedroom and lock myself in.

“Moon Goddess, why does everything have to be so hard?”

Maya’s POV

After my so-called mate screams at everyone he leaves.

How dare he talk to me like that? I am his equal! We are supposed to rule as one!

Everyone jumps a little bit when Reese bursts into laughter.

“Oh babe! I can’t believe you just did that! It was awesome!” He says and scoops up Alice with ease.

Alice slaps his hands away until he lets her down. Once he brings her back to her feet, Alice walks over to me and pulls me into a hug. No words need to be spoken. She’s silently asking me if I’m okay. What would I do without my best friend? I give her a reassuring squeeze before we let each other go and focus on the bigger issue at hand.

I wrap myself tightly in my comforter and turn to face the Royal beta and gamma.

“Why do I need a babysitter at all times?” I ask the first question that comes to mind.

“It’s not a babysitter. More of a personal guard. You're a queen now. Not to mention a hybrid. You're in a greater amount of danger just because you are the queen of all wolves now. Adding to that, you are an unknown hybrid. If you are part witch it won’t make a difference, but if you are part fairy. Oh boy are we in for a time if someone finds out before you shift.” Reese explains.

“What do you mean?” I am confused at why I am at a higher risk if I am a fairy hybrid.

“Do you know about the war?” Topaz asks.

“Yes, everyone does. It’s part of our school education.” I responded.

“Then you know if a vampire finds out that you are part fairy they will go to great lengths to kill you or use you.” Topaz says.

My lips part into an O. Everything is making sense now.

One more question pops into my head, but I’m not going to say it out loud.

I just wonder why the king won’t reject me if I am such a risk to keep around. The bond is there but it’s not strong yet. Rejecting me now would be easier.

“So, I will take the first shift over you.” Topaz says.

“Is that how this is going to work? Me having to have someone by my side all the time?”

“Yes, and it has to be me, Reese, or Conal.” Topaz says

“Not Conal.” I say.

“Why? He’s your mate.” Reese asks.

“He’s also a dick.” I responded.

He bursts into laughter.

“He’s not that bad once you get to know him.” Reese says.

“I don’t plan to get to know him.” I say frustrated.

With a shrug Reese walks out of my room leaving just me, Alice, and Topaz.

After he leaves, the room falls into awkward silence. We all just look at one another not sure what to do. Finally, Alice breaks the silence.

“We should probably start getting ready for our graduation ceremony.” She says.

I sigh. Another party.

“Ugh, do we have to?” I whine.

Alice and Topaz burst into laughter.

“C’mon!” Alice says.

She grabs my arm and drags me out of bed. The entire time I’m groaning and whining about not wanting to go.

Topaz just sits on the bed with an amused smirk on her face.

She watches us like a hawk the entire time we get dressed and put make up on. Every few minutes I see her get up and walk over to the window to look out and then sit back down on the bed. I guess I really am being guarded…

I try not to think about it and focus more on getting ready with Alice. She picks out a white dress with a rose pattern on it for herself. I picked out a blue ombré dress. It starts out light by my chest and as it goes down to my knees it slowly gets darker. Both dresses are knee length and have spaghetti straps along with a sweetheart neckline.

Once we are both dressed we walk over to my vanity. First Alice sits down and I do her make up. I do a simple face. I highlight her eyes with a bit of bronzer. I use some concealer under her eyes along with some light foundation. I also apply some blush and bronzer. Lastly, I use some mascara to make her lashes stand out and put some clear lip gloss on her lips.

When I finish, Alice takes a second to look in the mirror for herself. When she is satisfied making a few touch ups here and there she turns to me and gets up. She points at the chair she just vacated.

“Sit down. Your turn b***h!” She squeals with a huge smile on her face.

I smile back at her and take a seat in front of the vanity. She turns the chair away from the mirror so I can’t see what she’s doing. I roll my eyes. She loves to use me as her personal Barbie doll.

After about fifteen minutes, she turns the chair back around. When I look in the mirror I am pleased with the look she gave me. I have an even skin tone with nice contours. She applied a coat of eyeliner to my lash line giving me a small wing. And to finish it off, I have a light pink shiny lipstick on. I am truly impressed by her handy work this time. Normally she enjoyed giving me a dramatic look. This time she kept it simple.

“Oh my God! You did such a good job!” I squeal.

With a small bow “thank you, thank you very much!” She squeals back.

Alice brushes through her short red hair and straightens it. I curl my long dark hair so it falls in loose ringlets down my back.

We both run back to the closet and grab our shoes and a purse each. My shoes are dark blue heels and Alice has on white flats. Alice’s purse is white and mine is blue.

When we walk back into the bedroom, Topaz is still sitting on the bed. She has her phone out and it looks like she is frantically texting someone.

“Hey, is there something wrong?” I ask.

She plasters a big fake smile on her face and quickly puts her phone into her pocket and stands up.

“No, everything is fine. Are you two ready to go?” She asks.

I know she’s hiding something but I don’t know what. I guess I’ll have to play nice until I can find out.

“Yes! We are. Are you coming?” I ask.

“I will be there, yes.” She says.

“You need a dress!” We both shout.

With a chuckle “No, I’ll be fine in this.” She gestures to the clothes that she has on. She is wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a blue t-shirt.

“Let’s get going.” She says quickly dismissing our look of disapproval at her choice in clothing.

She walks over to the door and opens it before gesturing that we should walk past her.

We walk through the door and Topaz follows us. We walk all the way to the elevator and push the button. While we are waiting, Jade starts getting frantic in my head. She won’t tell me what’s wrong. My heart starts beating faster and faster until I feel like I just ran miles without stopping. I begin to get a bit worried. I lean over to tell Alice what’s wrong, but I’m cut off by the ding of the elevator.

The doors slide open and my breath catches in my throat. I met the beautiful set of eyes that I saw in my dream for so long. The set of eyes that kept me captivated for months. The set of eyes that were blazing with fury a few hours ago because of a misunderstanding. Now, those same eyes are full of love and passion when they meet my own.

“Hello beautiful.” The deep voice of my mate says.

My knees feel weak and Jade is in my head howling. The mate bond feels like it intensified a hundred fold in just a few hours.

My mate is dressed in an expensive black suit. Looking exactly like a rich CEO. His hair is slicked back on his head with gel. In his hands in a bundle of roses.

He gets down on his knees and hands me the roses. With one hand I hold them and the other makes contact with his hand. Sharp pleasurable sparks shoot from where his hand is holding mine. Immediately creating a hot fire in my center. I could have jumped him right then and there, but the words that come out of his mouth next stop me dead in my tracks.

“I am one of the strongest beings on the planet. The King of all wolves. You are my queen. You are the only person that will ever have me on my knees like this begging for your forgiveness. Hear me out. Take these roses as a gift for my wrong actions. I am apologizing to you my queen in all sincerity. I have been waiting years for you. I hope you can take my apology and forgive me. After today I vow to do right by you first before anything else. I vow to value your opinion and any words that come out of your mouth. I promise to cherish, love, and respect you as a person, as my mate, and my queen. Please forgive me.”

My eyes are huge. Out of all the things I expected today this was not one of them. Jade is in my head howling at me to forgive him and mark him as my territory. I, on the other hand, don't know what to do. I don’t know him. But, I already tried to reject him and he won’t accept it….at least he’s trying to make things right….

With a sigh I look into those beautiful eyes that draw me in like quicksand.

“I forgive you. But! The next time you break your vows I will not!” I told him.

His face splits into a huge grin and he moves faster than I thought possible. He grabs me around the waist and pulls me flush against him slamming his lips on mine in the process. I freeze stunned for a few seconds before the tingles of pleasure erupting around my lips coax me into kissing him back.

I wrap my arms around his head and my legs around his torso. He has his arms around my waist and in a combined effort we keep each other flush together.

The pleasure I am getting from being this close to my mate is insane. I never want to stop. The sparks erupting on every part of my body he touches is making my core soaking wet. I hear voices but I tune them out. All that matters right now is me and him and this.

I feel someone who is not my mate wrap their arms around me from behind and yank me off. An earth shaking growl erupts out of my mate. I look behind me to see Alice.

“Oh shut it. We still have to walk on the stage for graduation. She doesn’t need to have a soiled outfit for an important milestone in her life.” Alice says.

“Watch it pup.” Conal says.

“She’s my best friend and now your betta female is nice. She also had a point.” I coo to my mighty mate.

He glares without saying anything else. He yanks me to his side and nuzzles his face into the crook of my neck.

“Whipped.” I hear Reese whisper.

Conal reaches over and smacks him on the back of his head.

“Shut it.” He says.

Topaz laughs at them both. One happy family I supposed.

We ride the elevator down to the first floor and make our way outside. Along the way we see streamers of many different colors and balloons scattered everywhere. We walk behind the pack house where the ceremony is going to be held.

Flush against the wood line is an arch made of balloons. Every few inches there is a picture of one of my classmates. In front of the arch is the stage where we will receive our diplomas. In front of the arch tons of chairs are laid out for family and friends of the graduates to watch us walk past the arch into adulthood.

I give Conal a hug and Alice does the same with Reese. They take their seats in the front row of the guest seating, and we walk over to the group of classmates who are graduating today. We stand around until the Alpha asks us to line up. We all line up in alphabetical order and wait for the music to play. Right on cue the music plays and we walk up to the Alpha to receive our diploma and then through the arch to the other side. Once by one this goes on until it’s my turn. I walk up to my dad and he hands me my diploma.

“You're a great kid!” He says to me,

I walk through the arch and come out on the other side. I glimpse my mom taking a picture of me and I feel a tightness in my chest. My mom…may not be my mom…

I watch and clap as each person comes through the arch and stands by us. When everyone is through the arch Alpha releases us to eat, mingle, and dance until the night falls.

That’s just what we do too. We scream and dance and drink until we are all too tired and drunk to stand anymore. Our parents take us home and tomorrow will be a new day.

After hours of partying me and Alice use each other for support stumbling up to our rooms. After we reach the soft warm bed everything goes black.
