Life Is Not The Price Of Cake! (GxG) Volume 1 Takano Masamune Chapter 1: Sweet Treat *** “Excuse! Can help find this location…? I don’t speak very good… English, sorry.” A beautiful young woman with long black hair approached two men visibly in their thirties, they were both wearing black suits and one of them was holding a cake in his hands. “Of course miss!” They both almost simultaneously agreed. As they glanced at the young woman’s phone to check the location one of them responded. “Hm… if you get on a bus from here it would be faster than just walking… It’s down the street near a hotel The Golden Rose.” He explained. “Oh? Is it far away?” The woman shrugged her shoulders in a sort of defeated manner. “I have to go there…” She said while looking at her maps that didn’t seem to be working for her. “I can help and guide you there!” One of the men said, the one holding the cake. “Alright I’ll have a smoke while waiting for you then.” The other one responded as he sighed. As they headed in the direction of the hotel the girl seemed nervous. “This your first time in the city?” The older man in the suit said. “Hm…” The woman nodded. “It’s so difficult to get around here…” She explained as she looked up at the man and smiled with sincerity. “I’m happy I met someone so kind here!” Her slightly broken English caused her sentences to be correct in essence but the delivery showed she wasn’t from around here. “Oh, well it’s the right thing to do.” The man seemed slightly flustered as he returned the smile. Then suddenly… someone ran past them at great speed and grabbed the cake off his arms. “Thief!” The young woman yelled out. “Not good.” “Agh… I was careless…” The man looked distraught. “I go chase!” The young woman began running before the man could even give her a response. However her running was so slow that she couldn’t catch up to the thief at all. “Thanks but it’s alright… I’ll just buy another.” The man in all black suit said as he easily caught up to the woman. “Ha… but… that person!” The young woman out of breath heaved heavily. “It’s not an issue, it happens…” The man reassured her and send her off to her destination. “Very many thanks!” The young woman spoke her goodbyes with enthusiasm. “New cake better surely!” She said it might have been some encouragement for the man. The other left her with a smile on his face and met back up with his colleague that scolded him for his mishaps. Meanwhile the young woman turned the corner and met up with the thief behind the hotel. “You got it?” She asked with a perfect pronunciation. It seemed like everything that happened before was but an act for the sake of stealing this cake. “Of course I did! Who do you take me for?” The other woman spoke as she took her hood off. Their faces looked similar to each other, far too similar, the girls were identical twins. The only things separating them were their clothes and the obvious large scar upon the face of the one that stole the cake. “Well that was a job well done!” The first woman spoke, her name was May, she was the brains of the operation, although she hadn’t been gifted with physical endurance she was good at swindling people. “I even got us a little something more.” She grinned as she showed the watch she’d swept off the man. “Whoa… isn’t that one of those golden ones!?” The sister with a scar on her face, Dea; spoke up as well. Her large eyes seemed to be bulging at the sight of it. “Yeah, it’s quite pricey… though too bad we can’t sell it.” May said while putting it on her wrist. “Eh, why?” Dea asked looking around. “Did someone notice?” She questioned carefully. “No but it would be far too risky, those guys were kind and didn’t seem to lack money. I’m sure they won’t try to find it but it’s better to be safe.” May explained with a smile on her face. “And besides, I think it looks much better on my than it did on him!” She continued with a boisterous smile. “Not fair… I want one as well…” Dea complained with a slump of her shoulders, then she was presented with a ring. “It’s not a fancy watch but, if you want it.” May said with a smile on her face, Dea looked more than happy. “Sis, honestly how do you even manage to swipe these off them so quickly? I can never keep up with you…” Dea remarked while putting the ring on her thumb, it was a man’s ring so it was far too large for any of her other fingers. “It’s just practice.” May remarked while observing her new watch. Then suddenly her expression changed slightly, she looked serious. “…hey… we’re going to make it right? For sure…” She spoke in a low whisper and her sister seemed to understand her even without much words. “Yes, we’ll succeed.” Dea nodded her head, she seemed rather serious as well. Seeing her sister’s expression change so drastically reminded her of what an actress the woman was… ‘Someone that can change personality at the drop of a hat… someone that can easily become anyone she wants… if anyone can do it she can…’ Dea had no doubts about her sister, she knew how intelligent and capable the woman was, however she wasn’t so confident about herself. The two sisters were vastly different but both were together in this life for a single goal… to become successful and pull themselves out of poverty, that’s all that matters to them… “Those two were a small mark.” May said while writing something down. “It’s too early to do anything with the watch so we will put it off for at least three months… hm… but our bills are coming up.” She was meticulously calculating their rent, electric, water bill, internet, food… “Ugh.. numbers…” Dea on the other hand took a single glance at the sheet of paper and was left with a dizzy head. “Did you figure something out?” She asked as she noticed her sister’s hand stopped moving. “With how we are right now… we might be able to afford out bills.” May remarked as she grabbed the spoon off the table with her left hand and continued jotting down something with her right. “That’s awesome!” Dea rejoiced. “That is…” May continued. “Only if we don’t buy any food for the entire month…” She concluded and Dea’s shoulders slumped down as she continued eating the cake they’d stolen. “Hey…” Dea spoke lowly with her mouth still full. “What is it?” May continued trying to re-calculate their expenses but no matter how she looked at it, it wasn’t enough. “We’re struggling every month and barely scraping by… shouldn’t we go for a bigger heist next time?” Dea suggested and this caused her sister to pause for a moment. “We can’t do that… if we do anything too bold we’ll end up in trouble. Small steps is how it should be…” May instantly dismissed the idea. “Listen, there’s this super fancy party coming up soon…” Dea explained. “I overheard those men talking about it before you approached them.” “A party?” May turned to look up. “Yeah, they said some really important people would be there along with actors and the like. If we go and get a big hit we won’t have to choose between food and bills!” Dea suggested with much enthusiasm. “………..” May still sat there and considered their options, then her sister tugged at her arm. “It’s going to be fine… if you enter the party as a guest and I go in as a waiter we’ll sneak past everyone and get some jewelry or even better straight up cash!” Dea’s words continued to encourage her sister. “Trust me on this one, it’s going to be easy.” May finally nodded her head. “Alright, we can do it… if you’re confident then so am I.” She said while taking another spoonful of cake. “Haha! I knew you’d be up for it! Just wait till next week, it’s going to be epic!” Dea continued while jumping up and down in her chair. May was more cautious when it came to all this and Dea was more brave, that’s why they worked so well together for all this time. “Also, are we going to go to that?” Dea asked as she watched May stand up and head to the sink to wash the dishes they’d used. “To what?” May asked with a curious glance towards her sister. “You know… mom’s funeral…” Dea seemed very nervous to mention it in front of her. In the next moment one of the plates May was holding fell to the ground and crashed. “Sorry… for mentioning it…” Dea quickly apologized, stood up and left the room. May stood there for a while longer, then began picking up the pieces of broken ceramic off the ground. “…mom, huh…?” May muttered under her breath as she threw away the remains of the plate. Their mother had died a long time ago, and Dea was the only one to remember each year about her grave. Dea had went every single year since their mother’s death to visit her and place new flowers on her grave…. May hadn’t gone to visit even once… Chapter 2: Life Of The Party *** “Whoa… this place is amazing…” Dea stood there in the shadows admiring the large building that was rented out for this event. “Dea focus… this is going to be a big heist so I need you to pay attention to the plan.” May seemed more nervous than ever, no in fact this might have been the very first time the young woman had shown such obvious signs of worry on her face. “It’s nothing that fancy… we can do it no sweat!” Dea continued being encouraging. She was dressed in a carefully made outfit similar to the servers. Meanwhile May was dressed in a knee length black dress that was more loosely fitting in the top and more well fitted at the bottom. Her long black hair waving slightly with the wind. “I know but this is dangerous still… if we get caught there will be no way for us to escape or talk our way out of it.” May said while adjusting the woman’s disguise. Since it was dangerous to have the two of them in too close proximity to one another, Dea had to wear a disguise that would make her look vastly different than the other woman. Along with hiding Dea’s scar on her face, she also had to wear a wig, contacts and make up that made her almost unrecognizable. Both of them were doing their part eaqually… It was a hard task… far too difficult… one that neither of them hadn’t taken on before… “Let’s just head inside. I know the plan inside out!” Dea spoke in an overly optimistic voice and headed in. May took a few more moments to compose herself. “Why do I have this pit in my stomach today? Did I eat something bad?” She wondered while watching her sister’s retreating back. Dea entered the event through the back door where all the personnel entered. Of course it was rather easy since no one was checking which server came in or not and in the worst case she would just say she was covering for someone else… The plan was solid… Inside in the event the halls were cheerful, there were plenty of people standing around and drinking, chatting amongst themselves and enjoying a good time. ‘Hm… since we did this so last minute I didn’t have the time to figure out what this event is about… I hope no one asks me about it…’ May was looking around for a suitable target. Although everyone there was rich, that wasn’t enough in itself for them to be targets… There was something very specific that May was looking for in the man she’s aiming to rob… he has to look oblivious, someone easily distracted, a good person at heart that can naively trust a stranger… “Hm…” May stopped her eyes in a well dressed young man in a suit. The way he carried himself with some amount of introverted-ness showed her he was someone not used to such events. ‘Perfect…’ May could accurately read men like that at a single glance. She carefully blended in with the rest of the crowd and took a glass of champagne in her hand. Then as she approached him she pretended to faint. “Ugh… my head…” May groaned a bit under her breath. The man looked alarmed as he caught her before she would fall to the ground. “I’m sorry…” May quickly apologized and pulled back to stand on her own. “I think… I drank something too strong.” Her cheeks were rose colored, partially due to the make up she applied and also due to her actually being hot. She felt rather suffocated in a place with so much people. “Are you alright?” The man spoke in a low voice, he seemed nervous. May took this opportunity to grasp his hand. “Could you please help me get some fresh air?” May asked with a sweet voice that carried to the man’s ears. “Of course…” The man carefully lead her towards the balcony. May held onto him for support. It was a bit odd though… she wasn’t expecting so many people to be staring at them. ‘Did I pick someone with a girlfriend? Or a wife? I might be in trouble… I feel like everyone’s eyes are on me right now…’ May thought to herself as she was glancing at the reactions of the people around her. Strangely the crowd they walked past was a bit more quiet than she anticipated, as if they were amazed… All the while her sister was getting one order after another… clean this, do that, then that… it was a never ending sea of one thing to do and then ten more… “Ugh…” Dea sat down at last for a short 10 minute break at the stairs in the back. ‘I have to go and support May soon… but how can I do that when they’re working me to the bone!?’ She wondered to herself as she sighed once more. ‘This was all my idea and yet I can’t even do anything… I’m not like her…’ The constant reminder of her own inferiority made her feel like she too was suffocating. “Excuse me, this dish was so cold I thought a penguin might some out of it!” A man approached Dea who was sitting down and smoking. “Huh?! What did you say!?” Dea stood up with an angry expression on her face. “Listen up, I haven’t sat down for the past hour and a half. If you think you can barge in here and order me around you have another thing coming!” She yelled at him. “Haha, well you’re feisty.” The man chuckled. “I was joking about that. I’m Aiden, how about you?” He seemed unusually cheerful, unlike the more crafty smiles that were displayed inside the ball room, this man who was dressed no differently than the rest of the pompous rich people, showed a smile no less genuine than the luxury brands he was wearing. “Jokes are supposed to be funny.” Dea crushed her cigarette under her foot and glared at him with her arms crossed. “What do you want, Aiden?”
